Title: The road to Hong kong..
Post by: rainbow_bright on January 03, 2008, 04:56:02 AM
My brother is going to Hong Kong, with his gf (her family is from H.K). I've noticed quite a lot of Pc engine games, systems etc from hong kong on ebay. Does anyone know, any district or shops that sell Pc engine stuff?

Can't help ya, I've never been to Hong Kong. If you're going to buy video games check if it's NTSC b/c i think PAL is standard out there. Unless your from europe I guess you'll want PAL games.

Tell hin (them) to go to Noble Dancers mall in Kowloon...another place to try is orient 108 in Hong Kong proper (don't remeber if there was much PC Engine stuff there..but lots of other video game love).   Most games you find are NTSC over there, PAL  is around, but many (most?) people use NTSC, or both.  If I remember any others I will let you know ASAP.

I never saw many PAL systems whileI was there.  But there are 2 shops for sure that had STACKS of systems in the Noble Dancers shopping center.

It's been almost a year and a half..sorry.  At the time I was looking for stuff for my new toy (PSP).  As for games..I didn't see many places that had anything "retro".  PS1, and older was kinda scarce...I guess I needed better hookups..lol

Well, my bro and his girl friend are not going for a few months. So, I'm hoping enough people know information and I can make their holiday, into a Pc engine buying holiday! :)

LOL...I had 2 job offers when I went.  If it wasn't for my daughter, I would be living there now.  I loved it there, would've missed my red meat though.

Actually easier to gwet used to than I thought.  My brother, and sister in law ditched me after being there for 2-3 days.  I was on my own for most of a day, know almost no Cantonese (I can order a beer, and insult white folks like myself).  After a few minutes, I was on my way, had one of the best times ever.  It was fun taking on a challenge like that with no help.

It would be fun, but it could also be scary! And I'm tall, I may feel a little too different :) Although, my bros gf says the ladies would love me ! :)

I was going off of my experience...just brought you with...lol  The looks you get are great to. I am from Wiscosin in the US.  Second day there I actually run into a guy (literaly) with a hockey jersey on from the University 20 min from me..lol.  Of course when they find out you aren't British...it's 100 questions a minute.

The road to Hong Kong contains lots of plate glass windows for Jet Li to smash.

I wished I got to ya earlier but around the time you posted this I had some personal problems.

There are game stores but they are tricky to find.. all the ones that were around during the pc engine boom days are now gone....

and I'm pretty sure the ones that are still operating are pretty aware of the prices that go on eBay..

all I can say is good luck..

I think this was 1997 just before the hand over Its besides the Star Ferry and Hong Kong Cultural centre/planetarium

Everytime you cross this bridge your life will get extended.  I think this was Deep Water bay around the other side of hong kong island near the Ocean Park

My late pops I think this was 1992 along with my cousins I think this is Wan Chai district centre

Again 1992 and the top of my mom's bro's house and their kids some place up in the hills, Sai Kung, New Territories XD
