Title: Best JPN hucards to never see US release
Post by: spenoza on January 06, 2008, 03:01:26 AM
OK, so I'm just curious here. The subject says it all. What are the best Japanese hucard games we never saw released here in the US? Arcade Cards don't count  :)

My personal favorites include Altered Beast, Batman, Cyber Knight, Darius Plus, Dragon Saber, Energy, Final Soldier, Genji Tshushin Agedama, Image Fight, Jimmu Denshou, KiKi KaiKai, The New Zealand Story, Parodius Da!, Salamander, Street Fighter II' Champion Edition, and Takeda Shingen.  Of that bunch, I think Final Soldier, Parodius, Salamander, and SFII are the ones that would appeal to the most people.

Some folks may also cite After Burner II, Hana Taaka Daka!?, and Detana!! Twinbee.

As expected, many are shooters. I hope other people chime in with their favorites. Back when I had a full stable of games, most of my imports were CDs. I had a Kisado, but it was pretty much just for the ACD Pro. So I never really knew which HuCard titles I was missing out on.

What about Out Run? I'm sure that never got released in America, though you'd think it should have, being such a well known game.

Wait, Energy? Do you mean this Energy?

Wow...you are...forgiving.

Lesser known ones: Momotaro Katsugeki, Hanatakadaka!?, and Burning Angels.
The more popular for a good reason ones: Street Fighter II', and Bomberman '94.

Also, the Ten no Koe if you count that.

I think some folks will agree that Spin Pair and Rastan Saga II also qualify for this thread.

OK, I'm joking about only one of these games.

Yeah, Dodgeball and Ninja Gaiden are awesome.

I'm keen on Liquid Kids, Battle Load Runner, Don Doko Don, Outrun, and SCI.

Lets face it,the vast majority of Hu-card titles released in Japan were nice, and if we would have gotten the same quality selection right from the start the Turbo would have lasted as long as the Pc Engine ,well not as long, but still long and healthy, ending in a more natural death around mid 1996 in the USA with decent sales until then. Everyone I knew loved the TG for the games it did have and always wanted to play mine, but wouldn't buy one simply because it didn't have enough titles in the overall selection compared to Snes and Genesis they had. I only knew  a few people who had TG16 systems because of this.

The above would also have to be applied to the cd/Scd selection too. If we would have gotten the impressive titles like Gradius 2,Rayxanber 3,Dracula X,Y's 4,we would have been far better off.

I will second Estaban with another vote for Rastan II, and on that note, recommend Strip Fighter.

Strip Fighter II actually isn't that bad a title. The controls are a bit clunky but you get used to it. The graphics are nice as is the music.

I think America did pretty well with bringing HuCards out here. There are some Japanese only ones that are great and worth getting, but for the most part USA got a good number of games.

One of the coolest Japanese only HuCards though is Dodge Danpei!

Having under 200 games released in the USA,we obviously got short changed.

My favorites are Bomberman '94, Aoi Blink, Hatris, Batman, Don Doko Don, Street Fighter 2', Columns, and Genpei Toumaden (ha-ha).

Having under 200 games released in the USA,we obviously got short changed.

No doubt, especially when limited to HuCards (only 94).

Yeah, I totally agree.  We got plenty of good HuCards over here: the Bonks, the Axes, Blazing Lazers, Splatterhouse, Dungeon Explorer, Ninja Spirit, Military Madness, Air Zonk, Soldier Blade, and so on.  There were some good ones that we missed out on, but very few of those would've gotten much attention over here (Parodius and SFII and maybe a couple others), and even those probably wouldn't have been "difference makers" in the overall picture.

From my collection- I'd have to chime in with 1943, Atomic Robo-Kid, Battle Lode Runner, Bomberman '94, Bonze Adventure, Bikkuriman World, Coryoon, Don Doko Don (hated it at first- now I love it!), Doraemon Arabian Nights, Dracula Boy, Final Soldier, Genji Tsushin Agedama, Gomola Speed, Image Fight, Lady Sword, Legend of Valkyrie, Liquid Kid, Lost Sun-Heart, Parodius, Photograph Boy, Ryukyu, Salamander, SonSon II, TwinBee and W-Ring.

But most especially Image Fight, Photograph Boy and SonSon II.
