Title: Geometry wars: your thoughts?
Post by: guyjin on January 07, 2008, 04:47:50 AM
Geometry wars seems to be the only new shmup in recent times that's gotten any attention.

I know a lot of you are shmup fiends, so have you played or seen GW, and what do you think of it?

Geometry Wars is one of the very few Xbox Live Arcade games I own.  It's pretty cool, as long as you shut that crap music off.  I can't play it for more than 15 or so minutes at a time, though.  Graphics look like one of those CD music visualizers.

I hate throwbacks to shit Atari style games just with better graphics like GW.  It's garbage.

I've only played Geometry Wars: Galaxies (for DS and Wii, the games are 99.9% the same on both versions).  There are different levels (board shapes, variance on enemies, medals awarded for different scores) and an upgradeable drone.  The geoms you get from shooting are used to purchase new levels, and abilities for your drone.

It's a nice game to sit and phase out for a bit when you have time to kill.  I don't think I wouldn't be playing it as much if it wasn't for the variety in levels and gaining the drone experience points.

Oh you're absolutely right. I hate it when they do things like this. I have only played the DS game and it sucks (obviously).
