Title: Vigilante weirdness
Post by: nodtveidt on January 22, 2008, 04:50:37 PM
Waaaaaaaaay back in the day, I picked up a copy of Vigilante from a game store brand new. I thought it was weird because there was only one "life" icon, despite the manual stating there should be two (three lives total). I had later sold the game off with some other stuff. A few years later, I got another copy of Vigilante that was "proper" and had both icons. Sold it when I had to move to PR.

Today, I received another copy, one I had scored on ebay. Popped it in, and...it's got only one icon!

Two versions of the same game. A flaw? Did this happen in the Japanese releases? Anyone know wtf is going on here? :D

That is so weird! I must run down right this second and check my copy

**runs downstairs**

**runs back upstairs after experience the finest that gaming has to offer**

Mine only has one as well.  The instruction manual says you have 3 lives (lies I tell you! Lies!) but the picture in the instruction manual only shows one on the bar.

I will check when I get home.

I bought my copy brand new from TZD last time they had it in stock.

I have no idea how many mine has - I'll check when I get home tonight.

*edit*

I checked it out, and mine has only one spare life; maybe they were confused and meant continues.

And here I thought this was going to be a thread about black skinheads.

Black skinheads would only be weird if they also happened to be Jewish and ate ham sandwiches.

I just tried  the PC Engine and Turbo versions.

Turbo = 1 life

PCE = 2 lives

I'm guessing that those remembering the game as having two spare lives were actually playing the import and that they wrote the manual before the change or just translated from the japanese manual.

I'm glad they made that change!  We dumb Americans just wouldn't understand what to do with three lives total.  The game is soooooooooo much better with only 1 extra life.  Notice how it is still the best selling game ever.  I am glad they took the time and spent the money to change this.  I hope they raised the price as a result.
