they're like hucards, but 8-bit. pick the best one.

list comes from here. (http://my.execpc.com/~krieg/links/sms.carts)

I thought they were called Sega Cards - where did MyCard come from?  Anyway, the best use of the card slot was the 3-D Glasses, but since you're specifically asking for a card game, I'll pick Spy vs. Spy.

P.S. - Your link is broken.

You forgot Laser Ghost, Ecco The Dolphin, Psycho Fox, Dragon Crystal, Enduro Racer, Impossible Mission, Ninja Gaiden and Wonderboy in Monsterland.

Probably intentional, seeing as those titles are standard cartridges.

You did leave out Bank Panic, Great Soccer, Great Baseball, Satellite 7, Astro Warrior, Comical Machine Gun Joe, and Woody Pop; but I assume that was also intentional, since they weren't released in the good ol' USA.

I thought SMS carts WERE cards???

SMS games came in two formats...  Cards and Cartridges.  The card slot were dropped in the later revisions of the SMS consoles *(SMS 2).  The 3D glasses also used the card slot for the 3D games found on carts (possibly for power?)

The cards tended to be very limited games (maybe quick ports from the SG-1000?)

GULKAVE a Compile shooter for the SG-1000. I'm sure it runs on a SMS too.

I voted for Ghost House, because it is the coolest as a game-on-card that I had a lot of fun with back in the day. Its just not the same on cart. I also prefer Teddy Boy on card.

The Mark III SMS has both the card slot and an ear phone jack type port for the 3D glasses.

Card games are limited just because the cards could only be made in small meg sizes back then. Just as HuCard took a while to gain size and R-Type had to be split into two games.

They should have split Black Belt™ into part 1 and part 2 on two cards.

I loved how every Sega Card game had the same exact hand on the box holding the card.

The hand of God.

Don't be silly, there is no god.

and even if there was, he obviously hates everything fun, and would never put his hands on anything as fun as a Sega card.

God wouldn't like that fact that I collect games. He would consider it worshiping idols.

Your logic has a fatal flaw: if you say God hates everything fun, then please explain boobies.

Perhaps, but God created Eve and flat chested ladies are still fun.  Certainly more fun than a pair of disembodied boobies, anyway.

Perhaps, but God created Eve and flat chested ladies are still fun.

The Bible implies that God had forbade sex (they didn't think of their genitals in a sexual matter, they gave it the same regard as someone wearing a T-shirt). So unless you think sitting around and just talking is fun, then Satan created fun.

This is of course, if you choose to believe in that shit. As an agnostic, I'm only capable of saying "lol, dunno".

Bullshit, the Bible only forbids sex outside of marriage.  Adam and Eve may not have thought of their genitals as strictly sexual organs, but that doesn't mean that they didn't use them (witness the many current cultures that aren't ashamed of nudity, yet still have sex).  Besides, God only forbade eating of the Tree of Knowledge, which wouldn't have prevented them from enjoying oral.

God was a retard to create the Tree o' Knowledge in the first place.  What a dumbass.  I hope he gets shot in the face burns in hell.

God should be backing off soon, since the church has had to divert all its funds to pay off the victims of pedophile priests.

In reality the buyer was a very good individual who paid within minutes of the auction ending and received their game only a couple of days later, positive feedback all around.

Mark III stuff isn't widely circulated among "western" gamers, so much of the info about it is uncommon.

Indeed, I've got a small markIII collection, but most games (except commons) and especially the accessories are hard to come by outside of Japan.

Figure this is as good a place as any for this question... I just got my first card-based game for the SMS, Ghost House.  Is there a trick to getting these things to work?  I put the card in and turn the system on, but I just get the instruction screen telling me to put a card or cart in.  This happens in two separate systems.  The 3D glasses work fine, so it doesn't seem to be the port.
Title: Re: Best Sega card?

I'm not well versed on the SMS cards, but have you tried scrubbing the card's contacts?  They're almost always the culprit on my Turbo.
Title: Re: Best Sega card?

Yep, scrubbed them with a damp towel.  No dice.
Title: Re: Best Sega card?
Post by: SignOfZeta on April 14, 2008, 11:31:22 AM
Yeah, it sounds like the usual HuCard problem. Also, since nobody bought 3D glasses or card games, most SMS have never had their card slots used even once, so there might be a fair bit of corrosion on there.

Use (lightly) an eraser on the card. Failing that, put alcohol on the card it and re-insert the card a few hundred times? Works for PC Engines. :)

Is the two-player mode simultaneous or alternating?
