Right now, I'm listening to "Are You Sensation" by Tigercity (http://www.myspace.com/tigercity).
What are you listening to?
-
I was about to start writing a history paper without having any music on... so thanks for reminding me to play something! My playlist has a mix of the Ys III soundtrack, a couple tunes from Image Fight (level 1, level 3) and the Blazing Lazers soundtrack, along with some romantic oldies and a few 80s tunes!
-
I'm listening to some sportscaster prattle on in the background. I'm on a public terminal, so there's not much I can do about it.
the only march madness I care about is the one that starts on Sunday.

Guyjin, does Dean's new sale start sunday?

The Teenagers - Reality Check: I got this because I f*cking *love* the remix these guys did of Chomeo's "Bonafide Lovin", but I've grown more weary of every song on this album in the last week than I have of that one 12" I bought months ago. The bitchy Parisian slut thing worked for a few hours though...
Goldfrapp - Seventh Tree: This is like the 2nd coming of Joan Baez with a bit of Sgt. Pepper thrown in. I love it, even though its not what I expected at all.
Mother 2 OST: I love this thing. Shove it in the face of anyone that says the SNES sound chip is gimmicky crap. In the right hands its the best sound chip ever.
-
Get your head out of the old-school sand - Sunday is all about Smash Bros. Brawl.

f*ckING WORD.

Meh....

Guns n Roses - Welcome to the Jungle (a.k.a. - whatever happens to be on radio). In my car, it's Queensryche's Operation: Mindcrime II.

I don't know about 'best sound chip ever', but damn awesome with the right talent.
-
I don't know about 'best sound chip ever',
It's just as capable as the Paula, it's just people never pushed it as much.
And as weird as this sounds, you need to play Plok to hear the absolute SAMPLE FIDELITY coming from the chip. I swear it's on Proteus 2000 levels.
-
It's just as capable as the Paula, it's just people never pushed it as much.
No it isn't; the SPC700 could never handle I/O functions for floppies and joysticks.
I agree that the Amiga and SNES sound chips were quite powerful for the time, but I can't say that they're better than everything else that has come out since. Hell, I'd guess that Jerry could've sounded just as good as, or even better than, the SPC700, but it was never pushed (just like the rest of the console).
-

Sound chip wise, I mean.

Back when Songbird was releasing Protector:SE, they were looking for musicians to make some music for the levels. I didn't get any released of course, but the fact is, your submission HAD TO BE .MOD, 4 channels, no effects except for volume and tempo. Also take into account that the T2K cart rips and the Wolfenstein cart rip and other rips, it's all .MOD format. So Jerry is basically like Paula except it was designed from the get-go for MOD files. You're right in the fact that no one was able to develop better formats for Jag like they were for Amiga, but had they? They would have been EQUALS.
Jaguar = pwn. Except for the amazingly retarded intro screen (which BTW uses that Fairlight orchestra hit sample that was either on the ST-01 or ST-02 disk...actually, I think it was ST-09?)
Also, the PS1 has the bigger brother to the SPC700, right? That's what someone told me before, but I don't know what to believe, I always thought sample playback was handled by the CPU as software.
-
Right now im listening to ASS CHAPEL:Fire and Destruction LP and, Nausea:Punk Terrorist Anthology Vol.1, and 3 Inches Of Blood(everything) and the collective Castlevania Series soundtrack.

I know that the Amiga can do better than 8 bit and 4 channels, but via software and not as a capability of the chip. Doesn't the Jag chip natively support 16 bit and 24 channels, making the Jag>Amiga? Sounds like blasphemy, considering that Jag ports sound worse than the same game on the SNES.

I don't have a clue what was in a PS1.

Nice, what do you think of that one? I like the original better but part II is damn good, I think better than most people give it credit. I bought it the day it came out.

Hey, I totally forgot about that. I was somewhat excited for it too. Thanks for reminding me.

Trash, mostly.

Evergrey- End of Your Days From their Recreation Day Album
-
A couple songs on the of my playlist. They're all from PC-8801 games I'm currently playing.
"Track 4 (http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/pmy1zh)" - Rune Worth (I don't know the name of this song but if you do please tell me)
"Opening (http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/43q75s)" - R-Type
"Nineteen (http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/o0dpkc)" - Star Cruiser
"Space Boat (http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/1zx0tl)" - Star Cruiser
"The Tree Bask (http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/h5j1ty)" - Last Armageddon
-

It can't touch part I, but it's good stuff and much better than the last couple of albums. I love the guitar solos and the drum work kicks tons of ass; the weakest part is the story line (it's an answer for a question that nobody asked).
-

I prefer this version.
http://www.chipretro.com/data/amiga/music/31952/R-type_Intro (Sorry about the horribly merged stereo, my personal recording I made from Deliplayer has better quality, but I can't find it. >_<

Oh f*ck yeah, it's the best thing they've put out in the last 10 or 15 years, easy.

sisters of mercy-Temple of love
I LOVE this band and no I'm not a goth! :) 8)

I have some favorites in rotation for quite some time now. My daughter and I have "dance parties" to these fine albums:
Haircut 100 - Pelican West
Human League - Dare (fantastic!)
Human League - Secrets (newer! still fantastic!)
Privately:
Iron Curtain (anything I can find by them). Holy sweetness, I can't stop listening to "Condos".
Slay Radio
Gain Ground SX, Double Dragon II, Babel, The Atlas, Battlefield '94, (PCE tunes!)
The Atlas actually has nice Redbook tracks!
-
I'm in one of these strange phases where I haven't listened to an official CD in months- and have no desire to. There's just nothing right now that I can think of that I'd want to listen to. I also haven't been reading, haven't been watching much TV. Haven't been watching as many movies as I usually do. I have however clocked in ten and a half hours of dragon slayer- with no end in sight!
update-
actually just bought a cd today- the new erykah badu.
mini review new badu is inspired and interesting but it can't touch her second album. Ok review has been shortened even more for I realize that no one here gives a shit about Erykah Badu.

AC/DC - For Those About to Rock
.....we salute you! f*ck yeah!
-
I saw Queensryche once in NY at Jones Beach. They were opening up for Halford/ Priest. It was good.
-
I feel slightly higher about my girlfriend now. A friend of mine who lives in her old place asked if I'd like to take her old records home. Among them I found three Bill Bruford solo albums and some UK albums.

AC/DC - For Those About to Rock
.....we salute you! f*ck yeah!
I find it just...amazing...that anyone could possibly get excited about shit like that. I grew sick of every AC/DC song twenty years ago and yet the same sucky radio stations are still playing the same 4 songs over and over again, every few hours, every day, every week, every year. You people must just hate music. Or yourselves. Or something.
If I never hear another white trash anthem from AC/DC, Aerosmith, Metalica's "black album", or anything from Nirvana or Alice in Chains ever again it will be too soon. Same goes for those two George Thorogood tracks, or the satanic duo of "Under the Bridge" and "Paradise City".
I particularly loathe "Under the Bridge" since they play it not only on the sister f*cker "Nu Rock" stations, but also the classic rock stations, the adult contemporary stations, the general pop stations, and those sort of washed up alternative stations that are popping up now so it will actually be playing on two or three stations in the same city at the same time.
-
AC/DC have the exact right amount of tension and minimalism going on in their guitar sound - other than that the songwriting is strong / poppy / easy to hang on to. They got the formula and they are just a classic, classic band. . I bet you most video game fans in the 80s were blasting AC/DC all the time.
I don't ever listen to them or anything (but I do have a few of their records) but I felt the need to defend them here !@

Dude, I used to think you were some f*cking moron who didn't know anything and that you were just a dick, but what you said right there...TOTAL 180 in my book. f*ck 80's - 90's jock rock. All it is is closet homosexual testosterone power with wanky solos that f*cking trailer trash hold in higher regard than the American flag. f*ck that.
It's also why I REALLY f*ckING HATE GUITAR HERO AND THE PEOPLE WHO LOVE IT. Because they mostly also love NASCAR, Halo, and Pabst Blue Ribbon.
To all those who are about to rock, TAKE THE f*ckING DILDO OUT OF YOUR ASS AND f*ckING LISTEN TO DECENT MUSIC.

To listen to radio that you're sick of is kind of stupid- especially in this day and age. I haven't listened to crap radio in years- which is why I thankfully never know what song people are talking about when they're like "you don't know that song? how could you not have heard it?" I haven't heard it because when I do listen to music it's what I want to listen to- not what some douce DJ put into rotation.
Anyway- regardless of what the radio plays out- One Bourbon One Scotch One Beer by GT will always kick serious ass. Anyone who thinks otherwise is a f*cking girl (no offense Missa, Kirby).
-
You sure you wanna know? You sure you can handle it?
Here's my winamp tracklist I have been listening to this morning:
Shonen Knife, because it is just so cheesetastic!
Some random Lemon Demon tracks.
Beck...do I need to say more?
Bloodhound Gang - One Fierce Beer Coaster
Janet Jackson - Janet album
-
I find it just...amazing...blah, blah, blah...pointless, lunatic ravings.
I'm not so foolish that I'll let my enjoyment of music be dictated by what a radio station plays.
-
I've got Satellite radio (Sirius). It's the answer to anyone who has issues with "normal" radio.
They have around 200 channels, each of which is tailored to a specific genre. There's something for everyone, and no need to complain about hearing something you don't like. Their playlists are like 500x the size of normal over-the-air radio. Also, most of the channels don't have commercials. I pay $20/mo for a subscription and a radio in one of my cars, and a radio in Holly's car. You can't beat it.
-
You can't beat it.
Yes, I can. It's called PCEngineFX Radio and it's free (though offline, dammit).
Currently, I'm rolling around with Ozzy Osbourne's Ozzmosis and ZZ Top's Recycler.
-
Well, in a sense nothing beats CDs and the ability to hand-pick what you listen to.
But more often than not, I'm in the mood where I want someone else to pick for me what I listen to because I'm so f*cking indecisive, but stay within the bounds of a genre I enjoy. That's where satellite radio comes in.

ZZ Top f*cking rules.
Saw them at the garden co-headlining with Lynyrd Skynyrd (yawn) and they kicked ass- made the trip worthwhile.
-
I'm a big zztop fan too. I play tush, driving while blind, beer drinkers hell raisers and la grange in my band.
-
Currently listening to:
Overkill - Under the Influence
New Musik - Anywhere (the album with "churches")
Depeche Mode - Construction Time Again
I'm a big zztop fan too. I play tush, driving while blind, beer drinkers hell raisers and la grange in my band.
You ZZ Top fans are going to hate me, but I really love their album with "Velcro Fly" on it. I forget the name of the album, but I used to listen to that all the time.

WCBN Ann Arbor is the best station I've ever heard. In fact, its the only good radio station I've heard since 89X went NuRock over a decade ago...
Sadly though when you work in an environment where there is a radio playing %100 of the time (even when there is nobody in the building) you have no choice but to listen to it. Wacky morning zoo DJs, "Mandatory Metalica", the radio edit of Stairway to Heaven, and a bunch of crap from bands that had their big debut on prime time wrestling...and that's the *good* part. A full %30 of it is f*cking advertising which is even worse. Its f*cking torture and there is nothing you can do about it except quit and get another job.
Thankfully I don't work at at one of those places anymore, but I've spent plenty of time in those places.
-

If you ever thought I was a moron, then you are the true dumb-ass. I may be a lot of things, but I'm not stupid.
If you ever thought I was a dick then you should probably go right back to thinking that because I love rock and roll. I just hate hearing the same 25 songs day and and day out in a genre that sees 1000 new tracks a week.

Oh dear lord, I had a job where I had to listen to the radio. Horror. Oh, tender, sweet horror.
-
I used to love AC/DC's "For Those About to Rock" album. I even went to their concert when they went on that tour. I was 7 or 8 years old. But then a year or two ago, I listened to the entire album again, and I found it extremely lacking. The best part is the guitar intro to the title song.
I agree, radio is stupid and I haven't listened to it for probably 8 years now. I don't think I could ever bring myself to pay for satellite radio, especially since it is compressed audio. Then again I'm not someone who ALWAYS has to have music going no matter what. I don't mind driving in silence, though sometimes I'll bring some tunes of my choosing along.
PS - By the way, the Saturn sound chip beats the SNES. So does the Neo Geo. The SNES was limited to 32Khz. Gay.
-
I don't think I could ever bring myself to pay for satellite radio, especially since it is compressed audio.
Yeah it's not CD quality or anything, but I'll happily pay $10-$20 a month for radio without commercials.
I drive in silence when I have to, but it's not usually by choice.
-
I may be a lot of things...
A whinger would be one of those things.
-
A whinger? Is that anything like a whigger?
-
I listen to the radio every now and then. When I roll teh ram van, I listen to cds.
-
A whinger? Is that anything like a whigger?
no, it's UK slang for a whiner. pronounced 'whin-jer'.
-
Oh dear lord, I had a job where I had to listen to the radio. Horror. Oh, tender, sweet horror.
Yeah, it would violate the Geneva convention...if I could just get myself considered an enemy combatant...
If anyone is interested, here is the link to the UofM student radio:
http://www.wcbn.org/listen.html
You can listen there to a stream in a variety of formats. As I'm writing this there are some talk shows going, but its almost always music. I listen to it every day and usually go several weeks before hearing the same song twice. The genre selection is "freeform", which basically means absolutely everything. If you hate variety don't listen.
-
I only listen to music to & from work, unless it's music I'm working on at home. I've been listening to mostly Castlevania music, more specifically the Castleroids along with Rondo & the unlreleased Dreamcast CV ost(which, really doesn't fit the CV series). And I'm about to start listening to the PS2 CV's(LoI & CoD). Most of those soundtracks are by Michiru Yamane. I love her music, both remixes & new stuff!
-
I hate college radio. I'd rather listen to WKTU for the rest of my life than your typical college radio phlegm for one day.
-
silent hill ost as i work away on my game.

I used to listen to college radio (KIWR) almost exclusively. Nowadays, though, I prefer NPR.
