Title: PC-ENGINE/TURBO DUO, TURBO EXPRESS SOUND FIX & MODS
Post by: turbokon on March 13, 2008, 02:41:32 PM
Hello, I specialize in turbo's and pc-engine mods.  I am currently offering the following services:

Turbo Express/PC-ENGINE GT - Sound fix $20
Turbo Express/PC-ENGINE GT Video Fix (is backlighted but no picture) - $20
Turbo duo - Sound fix $35
Turbo Duo/PC-Engine duo opt amps upgrade - $35
Turbo Duo sound fix with opt amps upgrade $55
Turbo Duo/PC-Engine Duo - Composite mod $25
Turbo Duo/PC-Engine Duo/Turbo Grafx 16 - Region mod via pushbotton switch $45
`
These prices includes the cost of shipping back to you and these prices are for US resident only.  I will give discount for combine mods.   I  will also take turbo stuff like games, scrap unit and accessories in place of cash.

I will guarantee my work with a three month warranty period.  If within those three months, whatever repair or mod I made cease to function correctly, I will redo the repair or mod free of charge with no cost to you except for round trip shipping cost. I won't take responsibility for units that already had a mod or repair done by another party.  Therefore no warranty provided for those units.  If interested, please PM me.  Thanks!

Those are super cheap prices. I mod all my own systems and my friends' for free, but wouldn't even pick up my gamebit for those prices. If the work is good its the deal of the day.

Yep,good prices for the most part, but your not as solidly established here as Nat is. Many people may be hard pressed to send someone new their stuff,so don't get down on yourself if you don't find too many takers at first. Nat and Dean are going to be the obvious first choices. What may be best is you work out a deal with Nat as part of a joint support team that can handle work for each others regions of the country or something, and divide amounts profit wise by how much work each member is doing. That is if you even live far apart enough to justify this kinda merger.

If you all could work out something like this I might be interested in joining the group for some light work here and there, but I have zero interest in taking away business from anyone otherwise or too large a work load because of my kids,my free time is limited. All that said my hat is tipped towards Nat currently just because hes known here longer and hes a great guy. Id be saying the exact same thing about you too probably Turbokon, but I don't know you enough yet. Either way I hope it works out for you and Nat both.

To be honest, it's probably more trouble than it's worth to co-ordinate across the country. I'm here to help when needed, I'm not in need of quick cash. I have a day job that gets me by just fine. You guys here that know me know that I'll be around tomorrow, next week, next year, whatever and I'll tackle whatever you throw my way. When it comes to "labor cost" I'm extremely flexible, I'll negotiate based on the circumstances in every case. When it comes to cost of parts, that's pretty black and white and I'm not gonna take a loss but at the same time I'm not in it to make big bucks off anyone. I actually do it because I enjoy it and I figured I might as well help you guys out in the process, if at all possible.

All that said, I'm not going to be offended if someone goes with turbokon instead, who sounds like he could genuinely use the work right now. Like someone else pointed out, it's a free marketplace and especially in a community like this it's good to have more than one option.

I'll always be around, and my offer is always on the table. OK, I'm done hijacking turbokon's thread now...

Its def good to have as many options available as possible, but this brings up a good point that needs to be mentioned now. There needs to be some kind of verification system set up so that people who jump on to offer these services are required to prove they can do them first, and not just by pics. they should be required to at least provide 3-5 solid references or submit work to a mod here so they (the mod) can make sure the person knows what they are doing and
can do it well. This will also keep members from being ripped off by people who plan to join, take the hardware and run.

I know I'm not well established in this forum as the others, in fact this is the first forum I ever joined.  But please don't think that I will take your system and run.  I truly love the turbos and I wouldn't want to wish this to happen to any of you.  You can ask my wife (she get jealous sometime because I'm spending to much time with it). I have to lower my price to draw people in and when I become more established then I can probably charge as much as dean :D.  Please take a chance with me while my prices are low.  Its not that I need the money, I have a great job that pays well.  I want to buy turbo stuff without letting my know by not dipping into our shared checking account because she gets kind of naggy, you know what I mean.

I wouldn't mind sharing the load and profit with Nat or deanlite.

I will tell you what.  I'm willing to do mods for a few system for free (no labor cost) so that I can have a few good references to start.  Any takers?

O.k. I got my TG 16 back from turbokon the other day.  He did the region mod for me as a trial for good reference, and all I can say is WOW!  He got my TG on a Friday and had it shipped out Priority Mail on Monday! Can't beat that.  The install is super clean looking too.  You wouldn't know the thing had been opened, and the switch is mounted perfectly.  The switch's button itself is of very good quality also, it doesn't feel "cheap".

I would recomend turbokon highly.  I am very pleased with his work and service. A+++++

Anyone considering sending items to Turbokon should hold off due to recent information being made available.
Situations need to be cleared up,please wait for further details.

Update, its been made clear that either Turbokon and Count Smirf are one in the same,or Count Smirf is in his pocket. Either way there may be a possible scam going on,or that Turbokon is trying to self create hype for himself in the modding arena. Something is very fishy either way it goes.
One,the work looks like it was done by Dean, two, the Count was busted on here lying about a Samurai Ghost deal and just got exposed ( http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=5001.0 ),and three is one that will take some reading, special thanks to Busted for pm'ing this info to me straight from Digital Press forums and who informed me that a moderator there locked that thread for certain said issues:

Great prices. Even better if you can fix the few DUO's that the cap replacement does not solve the audio issues on.

This is a sell thread though, and not a 'how to' thread. There is a different forum for sale threads, and this forum isn't it. As a compromise though, I will leave a shadow copy of this thread here in Technical, and move the actual thread to Buying and Selling where it belongs.

Good Luck with your service.

Sorry, just finally been able to get back into the thread.

I have not tackle the S-vid mod yet.

I have just done mods for a couple of forum member here, Soviet and Count. I can take a pic of mine where I did some caps replacement and a region mod if you like.

Yes, top quality for sure. And I hear that D-Lite is a couple months behind. So sending your business to turbokon can get your work done faster, and help take a load of D-Lites back.

Yeah Micheal, what your getting at is wronge.  This is just stupid.  Count Smrifnack and turbokon are two different people, there has to be some way to tell that from this board.  Maybe not, I dunno.  But anyway, this is stupid.  There is no reason turbokon should be catching shit over this.  He did me right and this isn't how I intended to help him out.

Maybe you should have thought about that before you trying ripping people off here. Way to go, you've not only stained your own reputation but someone else's as well.

"In his pocket" is silly to say.  Turbokon offered parts and shipping only in his thread.  I took him up on that on the agreement that if I liked his work I would post pics and tell people.  That isn't a bad thing.  You guys were the ones who said he needed to get his work out there and prove himself.  That's what he was doing.

I couldn't care less about my reputation here.  If no one wants to pay $50 for the game then fine.  If someone did then fine.  I wasn't forcing anyone to buy it.

Direct from Shoutbox:
Quote
[Mon 00:48] <bust3dstr8> Here is what I got from DP: Thanks for the heads up and looking out. There is no direct IP match between the two users. Smrifnack has both IP's from texas as his profile claims. The other dude has two different IP's from two different states, which is suspicious, but I can't really say anything else.

Most likely this is a con,and Smurf is using the legit IP when logged in and then using hideip or similar when using the Turbokon ID. Nat or someone else here mod wise can cross reference the ip info just stated with the log ins here too by both ids...

You most likely are using Hide Ip or similar software when you log in as Turbokon. There is clearly something wrong here when two diff states ips show up for Turbokon on Dig Press. You have clearly been busted, best to be on your way now.

Covering your own tracks perhaps??? Isnt the first time we have had a member create 2 accounts and have conversations with them self. Everyone remembers Kits here..... Either way something is clearly wrong, and you need to go away, and one of the mods here needs to look into both your ip info. If Turbokon is a diff person something is still wrong if hes using diff ips every time he logs in to places, and because hes now associated with you. Seems your his only good word so far, that doesn't bode well, does it???

We know not what to think, only that the only good word so far is coming from you,and you are a proven liar and unreliable. Add that with Turbokon using diff states and ips and all around thats bad news...It doesn't matter if you leave willingly,I don't see you being around for much longer anyway.....

turbokon can explain to you why it says he is in two states I'm sure.  All I know is I sent him my TG and I got it back within 8 days with the region mod performed.  Nothing you can say changes that.

Maybe, but in the past there have been multiple con men working together to screw with communities.
Japhei and his crew on ebay and Neo forums,Chris and Dion at NGF. This wouldn't be the first time that people in different states/ips could work together to perform scams, cons, shady deals,ect.., so anything is indeed possible, and as said before, you've been caught dead on here, and a good word from you is not a major endorsement of honesty, I mean, you wont even stick to your word and go away on your own....

As far as I can see here nobody can prove anything that's being said, so the burden of proof should rest on the plaintiff, who seems to be once again witch hunting with no personal stake in a case. All I know is that if this is a scam there are much better and more profitable ones out there that require a lot less work...

I should clarify though that while I spend hours here every single day I don't have even more time to spend watching the Shoutbox for every little tidbit, so I have no idea what sort of key factors were revealed only there.

So why does this mod look like it was done by D-Lite? All I see is a button.

I think it's because that's the same ultra-uncommon 8PDT button that D-Lite uses. The thing is that D-Lite tended to put the switch on the front...plus, from what I understand, he doesn't even use the switch anymore and now uses a simple slider switch with a small add-on circuit board.

Zeta, the easiest of scams is the one where all you have to do is post on a  thread and say,"send me your stuff and Ill do so and so for you,or give you so and so for it" ,or "send me your money and I will sell you said item". Its zero effort and just takes  a little bit of detailed work on the net if you want to make it look good. Internet fraud is a big thing these days, surely you have realized this. Turbokon may be just a legit guy doing his thing, but because of Smurf it may be best to look into him further before giving the final ok.

Wouldn't this be easily settled with a couple phone calls, or posting of a picture of today dated newspapers from each poster , or some other such silliness? It may be in the interest of the accused to do something silly like that.

We've checked over at DP (i moderate there), and have not found sufficient proof that the two posters turbokon and COUNT SMRIFNACK are the same person over there. That doesn't rule it out of course, but all factors in, it doesn't seem likely to me. Lamest scam ever if it's a 'scam'.

Reputations are hard to build up, and very VERY easy to damage, especially with online fora where every voice has the same weight.

Whatever.

Yea,after talking to him in shout box Turbokon def sounds like just a average joe trying to do his thing which is great. Def looking forward to seeing more work of his done, esp after Soviet gets his deck back up and running, would like to see the work done on that one too :)

Sorry to Turbokon for stress caused. Everyone just got together, some stuff just sent up red flags because of Smurf, and people got concerned, but its sorted it sounds like and thats great. Best news is Smurf left.

alright. got my turbo duo back today that i sent to turbokon. origionally it came back but it seems that the post office beat the box it was in to hell and knocked something loose (not the first time this has happened to me) so my region switch was not working. talked to turbokon about it and he told me to send it back and he would fix it. got it back today so heres my review

i origionally sent him a tg express for a sound fix and my US turbo duo for a region mod and an amp upgrade (even though my express wasn't having any major sound issues at the time.)

got my express back and it sounds great so i'm very happy with that.

as for the turbo not initally working with the region switch i fault the PO for this and turbokon was very quick in repairing it and sending it back. so now onto the duo

i was a little worried at first because the sound kinda crackeled and went in and out for a second when i loaded up bonk but after playing it for many hours on and off since its running fine. i would even say it may sound a little better then it did before i sent it out. the switch works flawlessly now and looks pretty good. nice clean job on the mod. communication throughout the process was very good and always friendly. he was also pretty quick about getting everthing done and sent out as well.

here it is playing a PCE game

heres the region switch

i was pretty pleased with the job overall. hope this helps in clearing up things a bit for you here.

The more modders around here the merrier, especially if they'll do work for other forum dwellers. So long as nobody bites off more than they can chew, anyway. Some have already been bitten by that bug.

Hey turbokon, what's your source for the screw/nut that'll actually hold the 8PDT pole button down in place?  I haven't found something that fits that nicely, but what you have there in the pic looks nice.

You mean the one you can see from the outside that actually goes around the button? The switch should come with it.

No, they don't come with it.  I had a hard time locating them too.  If I tell you I'll have to kill you:) I drove to all the major hardware stores and couldn't find them.  I saw them laying around at my brother house which he got from Radio Shack. He use them to replace the switch on his amps.

Seriously tho, fast a good work at a nice price! Thanks Turbokon!

    Hello,
My name is Erik and I recently had my Turbo Duo sound problem fixed by turbokon.  I sent it out Friday the 11th and received it back the following Friday.  Problem is fixed and turnaround time is outstanding!!  Overall, an outstanding job performed by turbokon.  Highly recommended for doing business with!!

Turboken, are you still doing the sound fixes?  The sound on my PCEngine GT is all but gone.

How much would it be to Japan?

I could offer you trade.

I just got a PC Engine GT and a Turbo Express last week from Bibliophile who is a member at neo-geo.com and I wanted to know if they can have a controller port mod on these handhelds. I am having a hard time holding these bulky and heavy handhelds in my hands because of being disabled and not having enough strength and also I have problems with my left hand and fingers from tight tendons that make my hand close sometimes.  :)

So is this mod possible and how much does it cost?  :)

Shawn - I orignally thought this when I saw you were selling your TE because of having a hard time holding it. I don't think it would be difficult to add an external port for a controller to use. First - what would be the ideal controller? NES style? Would u want to use a Duo controller? The main thing is if you are ok with adding an external port to a TE, ie a 9 pin DIN connnector. What would require a modification, probably the best place is on the bottom of the TE, and we would also have to modify the controller to bypass the internal circuitry.

I could follow-up with you later on doing that since I am currently working on another controller project for another member from here. I think it is a great idea. Thoughts on how you would mount the TE to stand while you play?
