Hey there all,
Just thought I'd say Hi as this is my first post around here. I have newly bought a pc engine core grafix and happened upon this site. I don't know a great deal about the pc engine, but I'v been a gamer for as long as I can remember and I have a wide range of consoles form the snes up to the xbox 360 and loads inbetween. Hopefully I will be on these boards regular :D

Welcome :)

Thanks folks! ...and yeah, I guess it IS the pc engine upwards now! I'm lucky that I'v managed to get an instant small collection of about 25 games, a lot of which should be with me tomorrow. I'm looking forward to recieving them =P~
-
welcome, i am pretty new to the forum as well…its a gooooooooood place to hang.
-
welcome aboard skully. :D
what 25 games did you acquire?
-
Welcome skull...to the nuthouse. Muahahahahahahhaha
-
Greetings skull! Hope to see you around often.

OK. As of tomorrow (if the postie gets his ass in gear), I should have the following.
Starting with the fully boxed:
R-Type
R-Type 2
Street Fighter II Champion Edition
Final Blaster
Violent Soldier
Moto Roader
Rastan Saga II
Vigilante
Atomic Robokid Special
New Zealand Story
Alien Crush
Bomberman
Dragon Spirit
After Burner II
Daisen Pu
Paranoia
Operation Wolf
Image Fight
Xevious
Legendary Axe II
Metal Stoker
Pac Land
Unboxed:
Puzznic
Mr Heli
Fire Pro Wrestling III Legend Bout
F1 Circus 91
World Court
Momotaro Katsugeki
....and I'm spent!
-
That's a pretty good group to start off a collection. Except for a couple of semi-crappy games, they're all good titles; even the mediocre games are at least playable (i.e. Pac-Land and Momotaro). Have fun!
-
I thought it was a pretty good selection. Some of the games were bought in a bundle, hence why I have them (F1 circus, I'm looking at you!), but I have paid very little with the average price of my games at around £4 each. I'm looking forward to playing Vigilante as I adored that game when I was a kid. I'v checked out footage and reviews of the games that havn't arrived yet, and a lot of them look pretty decent. I'l let you guys know what I think once I'v given them a spin.

I demand that you feel welcome to the PCEngingFX boards.
Nice haul. I wish I had R-Type part 1 but I have the chinsey US version which combines them both onto one card, even though I always power the game off after I beat level 4. The last 4 levels don't really do much for me.
-
Welcome aboard! Have you checked out the high score section yet?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on Vigilante when you get a chance to play it!
-
Have fun welcome to the insane asylum.
-
Denied! The postal service has let me down once again. Ah well, theres always tomorrow :(
-
Welcome aboard, HAR, HAAARRR, HAAAAAARRRRRR!
-
and don't you forget about to check the link in my sig and register :)
-
If Pirate Keranu welcomes you, then I am forced to do the same.
-
Welcome to the boards m'man!
What a great way to kick off your PCE collection, especially if it has Metal Stoker, Operation Wolf and SF2:CE in it!
-
Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I got everything today except my vigilante (which is coming form an ebay seller), and to my surprise, the guy I bought a load of games from has also given me a free copy of ninja warriors (complete). I'm over the moon with it everything! Just gotta make the day go faster now so I can get home from work and try everything out.
-
That is a sweet start to your collection! You actually have surpassed my collection right off the bat! lol
-
Definitely a sweet instant collection. Any collection containing the almighty Image Fight is aces in my book.
-
Well thats me tried out my latest batch of games. Image fight is great, and so is paranoia. Operation Wolf is different from other versions I have played but in a good way. Ninja Warriors is also pretty good. first time I have played it for over 15 years...
-
Psychosis (Paranoia) is a highly underrated game. I love it.

I suspect that you'll really dig the PCE version of Vigilante. Don't use the turbo switches and you'll much more fun with it since the nunchaku has a "variable" speed that changes depending on how fast you press the button. Also, it's more fun to punch/kick without the turbo switches.
I wasn't particularly impressed with the game when I first got it (back in the day), and I went through a long period of thinking it was "blahhhh"... but in the past few years I've had some fun with it. I like the music, character designs and overall atmosphere in Vigilante. Sure, lots of stuff is generic, but it's decent enough. Also, I really dig the coverart of the PCE version.

I have much hate for Jonathan Davis, but not you  Welcome aboard :D

Jonathan Davis from korn?

I'm only using this avatar, as I set this up at work. I shall change it to my 'regular' avatar when I can be bothered at home. While I'm here what do you guys rate as the top hu-card beat 'em up? (apart from ones I have)

So Vigilante arrived today and I think it's great! It's the best version I'v played outside the arcade (master system, c64, amiga), and it is just as good as I remember it. It's a great looking conversion with only the music letting the side down. ..and the above poster is right about the box art. It looks amazing!
-
I really like the music in the Turbo version of Vigilante. Very fitting. I think it sounds great.

Yeah, I find myself appreciating Vigilante's tunes more as the years pass. IREM had a harsh sound to their chiptunes, but it totally works in the "gritty" world of Vigilante. :)

You are so right about the "harsh sound" on IREM's chip tunes. Ninja Spirit sends shivers down my spine every time the "death tune" comes on. lol
