So I got to thinking about how almost all the TG16 cover art pretty much sucks complete ass and was wondering if there was any merit in trying to make new manuals with the original Japanese artwork on the front. If someone were to take on such a project...how many people would be interested in these new reprints?

I'm usually a big supporter of these kinds of things, but this is one I'd probably stay away from.... As cheesy as the American artwork is, it is something unique, and my US games wouldn't feel right without it. Not to say it's not a good idea in general-- I'm sure many folks are not as nitpicky as I am. Not to mention having an extra supply of manuals available for people is never a bad idea.

I'm with nat on this one, though I'd be interested in reprints of some of the US manuals. If anyone hates the US artwork enough, they can always buy the PCE game and scavenge the manual.
-
I wouldn't buy one to replace any of my existing US covers, no matter how cheesy the artwork may be.
But if I had a batch of loose turbochips, I'd consider sourcing a case + manual in this fashion.

Same here, for loose hu cards this would be a viable service to offer if the prices are right for both seller and buyer.

Anyone who collects US games better like the shitty artwork. Its part of the charm. Otherwise just buy the PCE game. It doesn't really make much sense to me to pay double for US Victory Run, then make a new cover for it with the really cool PCE artwork when you could just buy the PCE game in the first place. Then the HuCard itself would have the cover art on it too.

yeah, this doesn't appeal to me much. Maybe you could use the artwork you were intending to make mock up album covers?? People love these soundtracks.. Don't know if that interests you at all, just an idea@!
-
Since most of my 92/93 TurboGrafx games are just loose hucards(except Hit the Ice, Time cruise, Legend of Hero Tonma and Dead moon), I like the idea of getting reprinted replacement manuals.
-
I'd buy some.
-
I'd be interested in some. But I'd be even more interested in translated manuals of japan-only PCE games.

Same here,even more so.

Japan-only manual translations would be a good idea. There's still a lot of games being translated, and many of them I'd like to put on neohucards or have pressed properly. Having manuals to accompany them would be perfect. I know a few people that would be able to do the translation.
On a related note, I'm still looking to have new hucard armtray inserts made. Haven't invested much time in this project yet though, but as soon as my wife and I get moved outta this shack in Isabela, I'll be looking into doing all of this.
