I've mentioned in chat a couple of times that I'm getting what amounts to an 'insta-collection'. Basically, a collector friend of mine stumbled across a guy who had a very large TG-16 collection from childhood. My friend obtained the entire thing, kept about ten games that he needed, and sold the rest to me.
I got the games yesterday and I'm ... staggered. Not only have I gone from a beat up deck and a couple of crappy games to a full-on collection, but I'm really surprised at how playable most of the games are. I actually got more than i thought i was getting. Here's a list of what I got:
HUCARD:
Aero Blasters
Alien Crush
Balistix
BattleRoyale
Bonk's Adventure
Bonk's Revenge
Blazing Lazers
Bloody Wolf
Cyber Core
Cratermaze
China Warrior
Cadash
Dungeon Explorer
Deep Blue
Dragon Spirit
Double Dungeons
Dragon Curse
Falcon
Final Lap Twin
Gunboat
Hit the Ice
Galaga 90
Ghost Manor
Impossamole
JJ and Jeff
Klax
King of Casino
Keith Courage
Legendary Axe
Legendary Axe II
Moto Roader
Military Madness
Ninja Spirit
New Adventure Island
Neutopia
Neutopia II
Night Creatures
Ordyne
Order of the Griffon
R-Type
Raiden
Sidearms
Silent Debuggers
Sinistron
Soldier Blade
Sonic Spike
Space harrier
Super Vollyball
Super Star Soldier
Splatterhouse
Tiger Road
Time Cruise
Tricky Kick
Turrican
TV Sports Hockey
TV Sports Football
Takin' it to the Hoop
Vigilante
Victory Run
World Class Baseball
World Court Tennis
Yo Bro
CD/SCD:
Dungeon Explorer II
Dungeon Master
Ys I & II
Vasteel
Lords of Thunder
Gate of Thunder w/Bonk I & II
It Came from the Desert
JB Harold Murder Club
Valis II
Madden
Sherlock Holmes I
Adams Family
Riot Zone
Shape Shifter
Shadow of the Beast
Buster Bros
Fighting Street
Exile
Last Alert
Whew! How's that for a score? I'm in shock. Never had anything like this happen before. And so many of the games are FUN! All of them have the manuals, sleeves etc. Spent all afternoon playing Ninja Spirit and Blazing Lazers. Gods, there is just so much good stuff here. There are only a couple of stinkers. I just need to track down a duo / duo r as soon as possible, so I can play the CDs.
Any suggestions on where to go from here?

Very cool. Not sure where to direct you to find a cd unit though. :-k
-
Holy crap, how much did all that cost?! I think you'll be quite busy for weeks to come!
-
Holy cow! I bet it took quite a few trips to move such a fine haul; have fun with the insta-collection. 8)
For your next step, I'd pick up Air Zonk, Bomberman '93, Dead Moon, Parasol Stars, or Splatterhouse. Those are the only glaring holes that I see in your HuCard collection.

I'm surprised at you, Necromancer. You're my tag-team partner when it comes to promoting Bonk 3, yet it gets no love?
-
wow Lord Thag thats what wet TG16 dreams are made of right there!!! a hell of a haul… Soldier Blade, Galaga 90, Ninja Spirit, Sidearms… good times right there!!! :D
and ya your going to need a copy Bomberman
-
Which Bomberman? '93 or the original?
He already has the original. All he needs is a CD-ROM add-on or Duo to play it.

If it wasn't exorbitantly expensive, I certainly would've had it on my list along with Magical Chase. Since Lord Thag plans on getting a Duo/DuoR, I figured he'd be better off saving a pile of pennies and later getting the PCE version (and a region mod if he buys a US Duo).
-
Nice haul there thag! Now, how about a pic or two.
-
I need to borrow a camera and take pics. I loathe the things, so I don't own one. Chalk it up to thirty years of family members taking photos when my eyes are closed.
I've been having a blast playing some of these games. Old friends like Military Madness and Silent Debuggers are even more fun than I remember. Many of the games I've never played before are way better than I was expecting, especially a lot of the shooters. The Blazing Lasers/Star Soldier series is fantastic, and I've waited years to check out R-Type and Raiden, both of which are fantastic ports.
The funny thing is, I'm finding some of the 'stinkers' to be very playable. Games like Ghost Manor and Double Dungeons are actually fairly fun, if not up to the level of some of the other games. Maybe it's because I also collect Atari 2600 stuff, as the stinkers on THAT system are stench-worthy indeed!
All in all, I'm having a heck of a lot of fun. This system is a lot more compelling than I gave it credit for back in the nineties. Now all I need is a Duo and I'll be all set...
-
Since when is Ghost Manor a stinker? That's one of the better platformers on the console.
-
Lots of people consider Ghost Manor to be a stinker. It's not one of those "pick up and play" games, so unless you played it in your youth or have an insurmountable amount of patience, you're not likely to enjoy it. Hence why I don't enjoy it...both apply.

Absolutely.
Incredible haul Thag. A dream haul- for certain.

How about letting me taking it off your hand :) That's freaking Awesome!
-
Dang! Thag that's an incredible insta-collection. Nicely done.
-
Dude, you basically have my old collection.... and thats really odd!
I went through almost your entire Haul, and its pretty much exactly what I sold at MGC. Minus some imports and two Duos.
-
Really? That's weird. What/where is MGC?
-
What? No Cosmic Fantasy 2/Ys III/Cotton/Exile 2/Dynastic Hero? I'd just give it back to him. He's obviously trying to rip you off.
-

That is the MidWestGamingClassic; an event that took place last month or so. Apparently he sold a bunch of games that you bought. You can read more about MGC here:http://lazerdorks.org/stunningarticles/mgc2008/index.html.

Strange coincidence. My haul was picked up from the Washington area, I believe. Around the Vancouver area, as I recall. I'll ask John.
-
....Another hig haul located in the Seattle vicinity....
Just reinforces my belief that Seattle is the Turbo mecca of the country.
-
Yeah, I've notcied that. There have been HUGE scores at two of the NWCGE shows. One guy had an even bigger set than I got. It was like a feeding frenzy.
According to my friend John, there's even a store in Seattle that sells PCE stuff. I want to check it out the next time I'm up that way.
-
Yeah they actively import PCE stuff all the time. I always walk out of there about $100 poorer. They have ~200 PCE games at any given moment.
-
Wow! Guess that's where my money is going! I'll be up that way in June.
-
One of these days I'll have to travel up to Washington and buy up all the turbo goodness!!!
