Title: Is there a way to find out original retail prices?
Post by: romanoaj on May 06, 2008, 10:18:49 AM
As my topic heading implies, I'm looking to find the original retail prices of some games.  I'm trying to write a review of Minesweeper (CD-ROM2) and wanted to know how much it would sell for back in 1992.  Would it have cost as much as a Pom Ping World or even a Castlevania?  If anyone knows how to find this kind of info, please let me know.  Thanks in advance.

I don't know where the info. was sourced and can't vouch for its accuracy, but PCE Daisakusen (http://www.pcedaisakusen.net/) has the original MSRP listed for most titles.  To save you a bit of time - Mine Sweeper was ¥6200, Pomping World was ¥4500 a year earlier, and Dracula X was ¥7800 a year later.

I have some on my website (http://www.vgden.com/) - the prices I mention there either come from the games themselves (Japanese HuCards have the the price printed at the back of the box) or from japanese catalogues.
I have also put a list together of Japanese and American HuCard games with all the prices I could find : here is the link (http://www.vgden.com/article.htm?list)... does it help ?
