Title: TurboGrafx CD System Card 3.0™
Post by: Sparky on May 15, 2008, 04:17:30 AM
QUESTION 1: Just wondering if someone could tell me the exact wording or has a picture of what the side case spine reads for the "System Card 3.0™ i just have the loose card.
With vestcoats great suggestion i want to make a case sticker for the 2.0 loosey goosey card and want it looking proper. googly wont show me any good reference.

QUESTION 2: Has anyone notice that the 3.0 card which allows Duo games to play of coarse, its display is not quite as sharp as the duo itself. I could be wrong or maybe its my TV but i swear i notcied a slight difference.  I will check it out again on another tv, is it just me and my bad eyes?… i do wear glasses at times :D

Tanks guys.

It's gotta be your eyes man (or your TV). I haven't the faintest idea what you're referring to and I'm kind of anal about picture quality.

fair enough, will try another TV, just though maybe since it is a card and with all the diff attachments with the TGCD there may have been a lose of picture quality… disregard and see question 1 :D

Maybe the TGCD's video output isn't quite as good as the Duo?  The Duo's composite out is fantastic (for composite), there's not much else from that era that compares with it.  I recall doing some tests on various incarnations of the Genesis, and some models sent a much better video and audio signal than others.

The TG-CD and Duo have relatively equivalent composite output...

Just for kicks, I loaded a Super CD 3.0 rom onto my flash cart and plugged it into the Duo to see if it would work.  I played a little Dracula X and Gate of Thunder, visually it was identical to playing on the Duo normally.

I was actually testing to see if I could use the flash cart as a system card, since I was wanting to get a cheap TG 16 + CD combo for mod experimenting, but the US 3.0 cards seem ridiculously expensive. For the record, Super CD Rom games work, Arcade Card games do not.

The Super CD 3.0 ROM works on a DUO because the DUO itself has the required RAM built into the console.  The Arcade Card games don't work, because they need extra RAM that is only present on a real arcade card.

If you try the ROM on a normal TG16+CD, the games won't work since there is no built in RAM no?  :?:

Its sir.  The avatar is from and old Saturn game that I've played to death.  And if I'm going to look at a picture everytime I post, I prefer it to be something nice to look at.

Aw, nuts.  Oh well, so much for getting a cheap TG16 CD setup as a backup, I'll just stick to the Duo  :-({|=

It is also more prone to failure!  But failure is definitely "cool".  Just look how cool the Xbox 360 is!

My duo hasn't failed. One time her audio went out, so she fixed herself!?!?!?! That is the power of the Turbo Duo! She even plays cd-rs burned at 48x!

My TG-16 isn't female since it is a piece of androgynous electronics.  But anyway if the audio went out then it has failed.  I just got off the phone with Tommy Lasorda and he told me that the TG-16 CD-ROM is teh bomb and the Duo is only teh firecracker.  Tommy has never been wrong.

Here you go Sparky.
It's saved as a high-quality JPEG.  PM me your email address if you want an uncompressed format.

Man! Why didn't NEC use that layout for the rest of their games?!  #-o #-o The side panels looks soooo much better than the halloween orange, or the plain black panels for that matter.

Anyway, nice scan vestcoat. :)
