Title: Best PC Engine game of all time?
Post by: guyjin on May 22, 2008, 01:06:57 PM
some of you are going to look at the choices and go WTF?  #-o
Unlike the TG16 poll, there were a lot of ties, and some of the winners got as few as 3 votes.
(and no, that wasn't Kato & Ken I was referring to.)

Stats:

6 are HuCards and 8 are CDs of some kind.
Of the CDs, 2 are original CDROM2s, 5 are Super CDs, and 1 is an Arcade CD.
One is a SuperGrafx game, the rest are ...not.

Number of these games that were released in the US: 8.

Number of FINAL TURBO SHOWDOWN games that made it to this list: 2.

[incidentally, I've locked that poll. The crown of 'best turbo game ever' shall be shared by Lords of Thunder and Ys I & II.]

May the best game win!

I'm thrilled Space Harrier made this list, but I voted Sapphire since it's my favorite PCE/Turbo ORIGINAL. It tops any and all "top 10" lists I make, always. Unless it's a cartridge-only list. Or something.

I like the arcade Space Harrier more than the Turbo port, so....

Sapphire it is.

Well, I was looking forward to voting for AirZonk, but I didn't make the list  .

I may take some heat for this but I think Dracula X had the best combination of graphics, sound, graphical effects, and gameplay of all the games on the list. GoT was a close second IMO, but Dracula X edged it out. It just has the best, most holistic package. I miss that game. It kicked ass.

I voted for Kato and Ken Chan. I'm suprised there are no Ys votes so far.

Since Lords of Thunder tied for first in the Turbo poll, it's odd that Winds of Thunder isn't even in the running this time.  :-k

Anyway, I voted for Dracula X as the best, most complete package.  If Sapphire weren't so dang short and saddled with annoying sound effects for weapons fire, it might've earned my vote instead.

It's a victim of strong competition, I suppose.  I'm surprised that you didn't vote for Bazaaru (or Uraazab, if you prefer :) ).

I'm also surprised that gate of thunder isn't doing better than it is, Dracula x domination isn't suprising, traveling these here internets and observing peoples thoughts and opinions, you get the feeling that the pc engine duo was made for the single purpose of playing Dracula x, as apposed to Dracula x being developed so that you would have another game to play on the pc engine.

I voted for dracula x.

I think part of its mystique is that it wasn't released in the US; had it been, I doubt that it would be dominating this list so handily.

While I think the mystique helps its case, I think it would still be dominating the list even if it was released here. It's just such a polished, quality game in so many areas. I think there's a reason it it was chosen to be the entry point for all Metroid-vanias that came later.

I voted for Akumajou Dracula X - Chi no Rondo. Not because I believe that its the best PC Engine game of all time or definitely teh best on the list. I just didn't feel like voting for Ys I & II again.

I voted for Akumajou Dracula X - Chi no Rondo because out of all the games listed, it is most certainly the best overall...it's fun, flashy, has a killer soundtrack, and has tons of replay value.

I voted for Sapphire.

I prefer Ys I & II and Gate of Thunder, and maybe even Ys III, but I have only the US versions of those, so I don't want to vote for them in a PC Engine game poll.

Same story with Galaga, Parasol Stars, and Space Harrier, but I wouldn't vote for them anyway.  I do have the JP version of Cadash, but it's not exactly best game ever material, in any language.

Puyo 2 isn't even as good as the first one.

Bazaru is a lot of fun, but I completed it once and probably won't look at it again for another few years.  Sapphire offers better replay value and is more rewarding.

I'm a Kaze Kiri fan, but there's no way I'm voting for a souped-up Kung Fu as the best PCE game of all time, no matter how impressive it is.

Rondo is cool, but terribly overrated.

Daimakaimura doesn't really belong in this poll.

Kato and Ken is garbage.

In spite of there being several entries that could be voted for (and that I remember doing so in the previous "Best PC Engine Game of the Year" polls, I had made the simple choice to vote for Gate of Thunder. As I can mention repeadedly, this spectacular shooter has an amazing rocking soundtrack; it's definitely what can be considered to be one of the best games to be on the PC Engine (and TurboGrafx-16, too). I shall hope to someday play that CD-ROM game.

The other good choices from here are Gingei Fukei Densenstu Sapphire, Kazi Kiri, Daimakaimura, Ys III: Wanderers from Ys, Ys I & II: Ancient Ys Vanished, Galaga '88, and Space Harrier. Some are not necessarily games that I'm interested in, but can fit within the category.

I voted Ys, cause its amazing!  You all know it.

DraculaX is basically tied for best ever, but I had to give Ys some love in this poll.

GoT, LoT, Beyond Shadowgate, DE 2.... damn its too hard to decide.
