hi folks,
I am pleased to announce that the TurboPlay Magazine Archives have been "completely" overhauled:
http://home.comcast.net/~turboplay-magazine-archives-tg16/
O.K., I still need to update and expand a lot of the old articles, but I implemented a new format for viewing individual magazine issues and added lots of page scans for your reading enjoyment.
The site is still far from perfect (I have lots and lots of work to do yet), but you'll get a good idea of what the Archives offer to Turbo fans.
I have tried to fix all the big problems plaguing the site (i.e. broken links in navigation, factual errors in the articles), but if you happen to notice anything that I've overlooked, please contact me. In fact, if you can help contribute to the site in any way, I encourage you to drop me a note.
thanks a lot!
p.s. You'll have to wait till the next big update (Spring 2005) before the DUOWORLD and TURBOFORCE page scans will be available.

Holy crap! Great site! I've never seen that one before. Thank you so much for doing this! I got rid of my TurboPlay/Force magazines back in the day, so this is a great blast to the past.
Thanks again!
-
Glad you like it! I'll post in these forums when I get the next wave of TurboPlay scans up. I noticed that some of the scans are completely garbled... I'll have to fix that. But the bigger task is to re-scan a bunch of the issues because the original scans are of poor quality and barely legible.
If anybody knows where I can get TurboForce #4 (June 1993) and the other issues of DUOWORLD (I know of only 2 issues)... that would be awesome.

Yeah this indeed is a great site! Thank you so much!

i'm sure some folks will appreciate this new addition to the Archives:
http://home.comcast.net/~turboplay-magazine-archives-tg16/video_game_reviews.html
It provides links to 51 reviews... now you don't have to go through each individual issue searching for the reviews.
Similar pages will be made to summarize the other columns in TurboPlay (i.e. the import column, the letters to the editor, etc.)... plus the site map will be updated one of these days and expanded with all of this info (i think I'll list the reviews by game title).
Yes, many of the images are illegible. I'm working on putting up better scans.

First off, the magazine scans are MUCH appreciated here. Good to see how much you already have accomplished. Reading that made me remember how much I loved Gunboat for the TG-16. The screams of the dying used to make my wife nuts. lol
The whole idea of the TURBOGRAFX-16 PRESERVATION SOCIETY appeals to me too. When health and time permit, I've been working off a similar idea for my website though it's geared a bit more toward the PC Engine side. I've got a bit of TG16 stuff around so contact me if I can be of any help.

I just won a batch of old magazines and TG-16 catalogs off eBay. If you'd like, I can scan them and send them off to you. The magazines are old Tips & Tricks, etc., that have TG articles in them. The catalogs are from Turbo Zone, or whatever it was called. Feel free to let me know and I'll get them scanned as soon as they arrive.

thank you for your kind words. getting feedback makes this all worthwhile :) I fixed the scan of the Gunboat review (now it is legible). I never gave Gunboat much of a chance back in the day, maybe I'll have to give it another whirl one of these days.

rock on. I am definitely interested in your help. Right now I'm focusing on the Archives, but in a few weeks I'll shift gears and finish the content for the Preservation Society. In other words, I hope your health improves soon :) I love PC-Engine as well, so I won't be limiting site content to North American items. It just happened that all of the initial projects for the site revolved around NA items.

YES!!!! I'm curious to see the content from these catalogs. I never saw the Tips & Tricks stuff, but I did receive TurboZone (I don't think I kept any, though).
Scans of this stuff would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. Most likely, they would fit into the TG-16 Preservation site (if that was kool with you). Here are my suggestions for scans: 300 dpi resolution, saved to a .bmp or .png or similar format (no loss of picture quality). otherwise, you could save as a .jpg (set at the "highest" quality).
Of course, I'll be happy with ANY TYPE of scan you provide, those are just suggestions.
thanks again for contributing... it adds to the inertia and really helps me
OTHER THINGS I NEED FOR the TG-16 Preservvation site: one of the sections I'm working on documents TG-16 reviews in multi-platform mags... I have been hunting down TG-16 reviews in VG & CE, GamePro, GameFan, etc. I still have a long way to go (I threw out most of my magazines in the mid-90's, unfortunately) so if you see any reviews, give me a holler.

I've got some old tzd magazines/flyers and some TG16 hint books and magazines too. I'm sure with some digging I can come up with some old game magazines with TG16 reviews and such in them. Looks like I may have to start my "spring cleaning" a bit early this year. :)

Here's the stuff I won:

I'll scan that stuff as you recommended and get them off to you as soon as they come in. I assume you don't need the scans of the TurboPlay magazines as you probably already have them, so I'll do the Tips & Tricks articles and the TTi catalogs.
-
Ok, started digging a little and I've also found some Club Turbo and Club Duo catalogs I forgot I even had. :) Now if I can just find a Club Scanner lol

Very kool. If and when you find more goodies, supply the details here. I'll keep a list of items updated on this thread. That way, we can sort out any duplicates.
Oh yeah... good luck finding your TurboScanner. I originally had put a bad joke here, but I removed it. Ouch, it was really stupid.

Rock on. Here's what piqued my interest:
photo 2:
i'd appreciate cover scan of Addams Family, since I had to photoshop a mailing label from my scan.
believe it or not, i would love scans from issue #14 of turboplay. Some of the scans I currently have SUCK and I intended to re-scan them myself. You can look on the site and see that I need to redo the entire LAST ISSUE (dude playing the mandolin)... if you wanted to do the stinky job of re-scanning, i'd be ever so grateful!
photo 1:
1. The TG-16 Instruction Manual (big orange thing in the first picture, i'm pretty sure). Yeah, it's kinda boring, but I'd like to have that available on the site... or at least use some diagrams from it and draw on some of the content.
2. I see a bunch of TZD catalogs. These are mostly price lists, but it would be neat to see them.
3. Tips & tricks ... I don't think they will have as much visual appeal as the tip pages in turboplay... so you won't have to scan each and every page (unless you want to :) ...
scanning is tedious, I thank you in advace for taking the time to do this. Feel free to contact me for any help during the scanning. I think I posted some technical guidelies for scanning, but I am only tooo happy to assist further.
-
Hey, no problem. I'll scan that stuff and from the Tricks & Tips I'll only scan the relevant Turbo info. Also, I believe I have the original Duo instruction manual if you want that too. Just let me know.
-
Yeah, the Duo manual would be kool. Too bad it doesn't have a fun flourescent orange cover like TG-16's. The Duo manual is pretty long... so you'll have lots of scanning fun :)
I visited my folks back east over the holidays and I scoured the attic and basement for anything my mom might have missed and didn't throw out over the years.
Unfortunately, I didn't find much. I did find the TG-CD carrying case... but I didn't find the TG-16 console box, or the TG-16 pamphlets and brochures (and TG-CD manual) that I was really hoping to unearth.
LESSON LEARNED: When my daughter grows up, I'm going to put her stuff in storage... but I won't throw it out. That will save her a lot of grief, if she's anything like me :)
-
Hey! I just wanted to pop in and let you know that I received my TZD catalogs, hardware catalogs, and TurboPlay magazines the other day and have started scanning. I'll drop you a line when they're done.
-
sounds great! no rush, take your time. scanning is TEDIOUS :)

just a quick update:
FOR YOUR READING PLEASURE...
Issues # 1-6, 9-11 of TurboPlay are now available in their entirety. The remaining issues should be fully available in a week or two.
http://home.comcast.net/~turboplay-magazine-archives-tg16/
PLEASE TELL ME...
If you encounter any problems (i.e. broken links, poor navigation, factual errors, etc.) A bunch of folks have played the role of "Quality Assurance Officers" by reporting problems... THANK YOU! Please continue :)
FINALLY...
Please feel free to contribute your thoughts on what you find most interesting about each issue. I've tried to do this in the "Notes" section... but sometimes I ramble and sometimes I miss good stuff. Your help is appreciated. Thanks.
