Title: games on both huCard and CD?
Post by: RR1980 on June 26, 2008, 11:06:59 AM
hey guys I am a newbie here :-)
one of my favorite game on the PC Engine is DORAEMON - NOBITA'S DORABIAN NIGHT and it's a Hu Card game but recently I was looking at PC Engine game plays on youtube and I found out that apparently there was also a CD version of that game that has the exact same gameplay except for added cd audio and also an added anime clip at the begining of the game. And then I was reading this forum and found out Bomberman 94' also has both Hu Card version and CD version.
Are there other games beside these 2 that also has both Hu Card version and CD version

Welcome to the forums RR1980.
There are quite a few games in question.
Black Tiger posted a list here that will get you off to a good start.

Plus these games have appeared in full form on CD:

I forgot to mention that Bomberman '94 was never released on CD. Only a very limited tiny demo with PSG sound was available on several different sample CDs.

Should Space Invaders count though? Aside from both having the original SI game included, they are very different.

mostly they didn't put in big efforts to improve the game itself. i think the the most reasonable explanation for those, was to cut the production costs, since a hucard is more costly than a cd.

in some  cases they added red book audio or some cut-scenes.

Ditto, I wouldn't include it, it's a different game, the Hu card one, is a totally new game of Space Invaders, while the cd, is just a collection of different versions of the original Space Invaders, plus a few vs. modes, including a cute version.

YES! A fine choice.  One of my favorites as well- have you beaten the genie/final boss?  I shrunk this guy several times with the shrinking ray but couldn't finish the job .  Not nearly enough people here have this game- it should be just as popular as the Bonk titles imo.

I've never played the CD version. Although I'd also not count it going from your description, its still not far off since they're both based around the same game.

Funny you should mention that I actually got to the Genie *one* time.....but barely.....giving it everything I got! so after I was killed by the genie I was so spent I just gave up on it. For a game designed for kids this game is really really hard especially since there's no save or password I remember you can only continue but even with that you have to start from the begining of the floor :-S I do like this one the best among all the Doreamon games cause there's not alot b.s you are simply playing as Doreamon...I find that  all the newer Doreamon games too much on the RPG side :-S

yes this bastard is rock solid- takes many many hits to get him shrunken each time- I've played him a handful of times and couldn't do him in.  I eventually will but I needed an extended break- it's pretty goddamn frustrating- and yeah it starts off easy as pie but ends up quite challenging- did you notice too how similar some of the tunes are to the Bonk tunes?  Sounds like the same guys or guy made the music.  An excellent game that requires you to backtrack to previous levels- one of my favorites certainly- and a cheap buy- should have came to America.

Another game that could be added to the list (kinda) is Meteor Blaster, as it was released first as a rom and later as a Super CD.

Andre' Panza was on CD?

Andre' Panza was on CD?

The Kick Boxing. It required a Super CD-ROM disc on PC Engine, but the power of the Turbochip was enough for it plus the Andre Panza license. 8)

Hahahhahahahaa. The power of the Andre Panza license, baby, is all that we needed. :)
