Yes, that's right...Luna Abelia Perry Zayas, our second daughter, has finally been born. 6:08PM AST, just under 2 hours ago. She was born right here at home...no doctors, no drugs, nothing but my wife and I. No pics just yet, maybe later on...haven't even brought out the camera yet. She's nursing right now, and wifey's a bloody mess until she stops nursing. :D

Update:
Some motherf*cker called 911, claiming a "domestic dispute". We were then essentially ripped out of our home and forced into the hospital, where they did all kinds of things against our wishes, such as shooting our little girl up with antibiotics. Social services got involved, and now our little girl is stuck in the hospital for five days while those fat, slow asshats at social services get off their fat asses and clear the case. They claimed it was an "unusual case"...yeah, BULLSHIT. Someone just got their panties in a bunch because we birthed without the "help" of the hospital, so now they're going to try to get their money's worth at our daughter's expense. The pediatrician on staff at the time refused to allow my wife to breastfeed our daughter, so my wife went to the supervisor and got that crap straightened out REAL quick. Fortunately, virtually all of the nurses at the hospital are on our side, and since we know our rights and are far more educated that everyone else who passes through that death trap they call a hospital, they're not going to mess with us. The sucky part though is that because social services is involved, we can't remove our daughter from the hospital just yet. We CAN, but it will result in "medical insubordination", and we know damn well that social services will make up a completely bullshit story and try to take our daughter away from us. So we're doing our best to minimize the damage, but we know that our daughter will never be the same as she was supposed to be thanks to the f*cking antibiotics. They even wanted to vaccinate her...WHAT THE f*ck, YOU DON'T VACCINATE A NEWBORN LESS THAN FOUR HOURS OLD! Do these f*cking idiots even know how vaccines work?! Obviously not! And they obviously don't know jack shit about breastfeeding, or else they'd know to NOT give the baby antibiotics. They claim that births outside of the hospital are "unsterile" births...umm hello dumb shit, NO birth is sterile, and should never BE sterile! Part of the birthing process is to pass along bacteria to the baby so the gut can be filled with bacteria properly...antibiotics kill all of these bacteria, making the baby's digestive system very weak...oh yes that's right, perfect for forcing high-grade, VERY EXPENSIVE baby formula into the child. Well f*ck if I'm gonna let them do that.
-

Holy shit man. WTF is going on down there. Find who made the "call", and let em visit the hospital if they're so gung ho on people using it  Very sorry to hear about the BS that came your way, and hope it all workss out as fast as humanly possible. 8-[
-
Those worthless cocksuckers did a great job of turning what should be a joyous occasion into a giant pain in your collective asses. Good luck straightening out the bullshit.
One word for social services and the hospital ass clowns - "SUE"
Two words for the douche bucket that made the call - "f*ck YOU"
-
Rover,
I'm really sorry to hear the update.
I was born at home with a midwife, breastfed, and never vaccinated. As I've grown older and done my own research I've always been thankful for my parents' decisions and their conviction to stand up to the doctors at the time. Your daughter will be too.
Good luck against the a$$holes.
-
Sorry to hear about that man, its a bit depressing. I wouldn't want my newborn given a bunch of antibiotics either.
-
Oh man. I'm really sorry to hear about this Rove. I hope this shit gets straightened out soon for you guys. Another testament as to how stupid people are.
-
UPDATE:
Just got back from the hospital, went in to see my daughter in the incubator wired up to a bunch of bullshit machines. Completely stupid, considering she was 40 weeks 5 days...there's absolutely no need for an incubator. Couldn't stay long...every passing minute looking at my daughter in that stupid box pissed me off more and more.
Okay, some details...about two hours after admission, Luna vomited something that looked like coffee grounds. The person who was on the case at the time told us that it was meconium in the stomach. I found this a little strange, but didn't think much of it, considering there was meconium discharge on delivery...though it was directly after Luna was completely out. Because of this "diagnosis", the antibiotics were administered. This morning, I did a little research. It seems that the body will automatically expel meconium if it is in the stomach, so the antibiotics weren't even necessary. So, after I came back from the hospital this morning, I did a little more research.
We've been fooled. The coffee grounds like substance is NOT meconium, it's blood...caused by a condition called gastric erosion. So, what's this? It's where the lining of the stomach becomes irritated and blood mixes with whatever fluid is in the stomach. It can be caused by iron deficiency...ok, problem here. One, if this was the case, she would have vomited it upon delivery. Secondly, both wifey's and Luna's iron levels were high. This is ruled out. Okay, next cause...alcohol. Nope, neither my wife nor my one-day-old girl drink. Ruled out with ease. Smoking? No again. Okay, what else? Medications. Aha. When she was brought in, they were quick to shove an IV into her. Saline, dextrose, you know...the standard stuff. But wait a second...dextrose drip bags are a very standard thing...so why did this one have a hand-written label stuck to it that said "dextrose"? Uh oh...drug cocktail. Shortly after this, the coffee grounds came up. Bingo, we've got a winner, folks.
Now, let's consider the meconium issue. Yes, there was meconium with the birth...however, it came out after the baby was delivered. That means that it was not in utero but was expelled during delivery...while the baby came down the birth canal. Now, in utero meconium is caused by a baby in distress. But in this case, it was caused by pressure during delivery due to a birth canal that's not completely wide enough to handle the baby smoothly. So, MAS was ruled out with ease, as was the possibility of meconium in the stomach. Oops...busted.
One final issue that was only mentioned in passing. One of the nurses noted what she called an "abscess" on Luna's inner mouth. Haven't heard anything about this since that, but we believe it was passed down from the idiotic pediatrician who wasn't going to allow Luna to be breastfed. Does this abscess exist? Probably not...I haven't seen it, and wifey hasn't said anything about it...Luna is breastfeeding strongly so the chance of this abscess actually existing is nil.
Three strikes, you're out. Expect major legal action and media coverage.
Oh by the way, got the stats...8 pounds 3 ounces, 22 inches long. Yes, I delivered a perfectly healthy 8+ pound baby without any experience. Suck on THAT, hospital f*ckers.
-
Stick it to them Rove.
But, congratulations again on serving up a healthy baby naturally.
-
Yes, I was going to recommend contacting the media. Please post any links to your TV station's websites or newspapers should they cover this.
-
Amazing how people believe the natural way of doing things is wrong.
They even wanted to vaccinate her...WHAT THE f*ck, YOU DON'T VACCINATE A NEWBORN LESS THAN FOUR HOURS OLD!
Jeez, don't people normally vaccinate babies when they are around 4 months old? Regardless, I don't think anyone should be vaccinated period, much so a baby.
-
A baby's immune system needs time to develop before those kinds of things are generally applied. You've got to give medical science some credit, though. Many vaccines are good and do work. Granted, the newborn baby probably doesn't need a vaccine for cervical cancer just yet. Some people are paranoid and think that the government injects robotic mechanisms to control you when they decide to take over.
That being said, I NEVER get Flu shots and I never get the Flu.
-

...I can't believe that...I mean it can't be true...could it? :-s :-k 8-[

No your safe up there ceti. All the nanomachines in Canada use the metric system, and are therefore inferior, and self destruct. ;)

They will NEVER come near either of my daughters with a shot of Gardasil. I know way too much about the scam that is Gardasil. It must be nice to have enough money to create a product and then create a scare to sell it. But then again, Merck has been doing that for decades.
Got another update from the wife tonight. Apparently, the long hospital stay is due to a blood culture test...it takes 3 days to complete and they won't release her until the results are conclusive. Of course, they're going to find out what we already know...our baby girl is in perfect health. All conclusive tests thus far have checked out 100%. This is a waste of our time and their time.

Good grief, what a world we live in ](*,)

OMG Old Rover! Have you thought about getting a lawyer on this situation? Holy Cow! Whats this world comming too. Are the police that came to your house Fraggin idiots! Im mad for you bro. My god! My son had to be delivered emergency C-section cause he tried to come 2 months early. They gave my wife a shot called Tributiline I swear to god if I would have known the side effects of that shot I would told them to screw off! One of the side effects is autism. Well guess what my son was diagnosed with mild autism and asbergers when he was young and had alot of issues. He has grown into a fine young man though! But I will tell you I would have never agreed to that shot had I known! I hope you can do something about this. I am so mad right now! God I hope the best for you Old Rover! Dont trust those bastards! They are in it for the stinkin money!

One of the side effects is autism.
Geez!! That's a hell of a "side effect". Shouldn't they list the side effects before they administer the medicine? Drug companies are required to on their TV commercials and magazine ads, I would think someone about to get the shot should be made aware as well.
-
It's debated that the mercury in vaccines causes autism too.
-
Wow, you would think they would warn you about something like that. :x
-
Sounds like one big-ass hassle for sure. Hope it all works out soon for you, the Mrs., and the little one.
-
a special moment taking right away from ya like that, dont even know what to say, hope you guys are back home soon :(
Did they say roughly what day you can get the hell out of there?
-
Sorry I'm late to the thread man- but congrats of course and that's some crazy shit going on there. Sounds like Crazy Hospital isn't just a PC-Engine SCD game..
-
Thanks for the encouragement everyone, my wife and I appreciate it. We're fighting the good fight here, and we're not so easy to shut up or put away.
The chemical additives and heavy metals used to preserve vaccines cause all kinds of health problems, and yes, autism is one of them. However, even if you can prove that a vaccine has caused your child damage, YOU CANNOT SUE THE PHARMACEUTICAL COMPANY THAT MANUFACTURED IT. Federal law prohibits lawsuits against pharmaceutical companies for vaccines. There's apparently some kind of fund you can get from the federal government, but again, it requires you to prove that the vaccine has caused the damage to your child. And by the way...they ARE required, by FEDERAL LAW, to tell you about the possible side effects of vaccines...however, people are not generally aware of this, so the doctors conveniently skip over this part. Well of course they do...they make a lot of money shooting up babies and toddlers with destructive heavy metals and chemicals...then they make far more money later in their life treating the symptoms of all the diseases and syndromes the vaccines cause. Follow the money trail.
The soonest time Luna could possibly be released is Thursday morning, because of the blood culture test. They won't release her without conclusive results on that test, which is complete bullshit. Now, ALL of the nurses on staff are behind us and think that this whole case is utterly disgusting. My wife's become somewhat of a celebrity in the hospital...EVERYONE'S talking about the mother who gave birth at home with no one besides her husband. But then there's the problem of social services...one of the people at social services is trying to expedite the case since there's really no case in the first place.
So, summary: The hospital stay is completely unnecessary, social services didn't need to get involved, and our neighborhood is likely to turn into a battlefield once wifey brings Luna home. All because some nosy, imposing motherf*cker couldn't mind their own f*cking business. Getting a lawyer is just a small piece of the gigantic pie that will be served hot once she's home.
-
It's debated that the mercury in vaccines causes autism too.
No it's not. Lunatics keep saying it, but it's false. Mercury hasn't been used in vaccines in the United States for years, and incidents of autism have not reduced as a result.
-
Yes, mercury HAS been linked to autism, and yes, it IS still used in vaccines, though it is slowly being phased out. Thiomersal (thimerosal) is an organomercury that has been used in vaccines for many decades (since the 1930s). Unfortunately, you cannot rely on the FDA to provide accurate information, as their studies are based on "honest reporting from the pharmaceutical companies"...and I don't think I need to explain how well THAT works out. 2-PE is on the rise though as an alternative to thiomersal, as well as other such "safer" preservatives. 2-PE is primarily used in dermatological products as a bactericide, and it's apparently less damaging than thiomersal (but more expensive, and you can even order it online). I couldn't find much information on it on the RSC website though, but there's a little.
-
Im just catching the tail end of this so far Rov,and Im really sorry your babys birth had to be thrown into such chaos. I hope it works out soon, family gets back home, and you sue like mad.
-
All I can say is that IO hope that everything is not in a negative light and that everything ends up okay. I'll pray for health for you man. Just remember, you give good Karma and you get it back. 8)

In this case they gave the Nod family shit, so they should throw it right the f*ck back. Preferably mixed with high velocity lead.

Update:
They finally got ahold of the social worker who met with us on Sunday in the hospital. The case has been cleared, all they're going to do now is a follow-up at our home. So now, we're simply waiting for clearance from the pediatrician. Of course, another problem sprang up...they put Luna on a five day antibiotic treatment. WHAT THE f*ck. And they did it without our consent, then conveniently forgot to tell us until a day later. However, the nurses are all telling them to release her earlier. The ped might be forced to bend to the pressure and release Luna earlier than Friday. Anyways, she got a single dose of penicillin (wtf? to administer it this early causes penicillin allergies in many, many children!) and a five-day "plan" of another antibiotic (my guess is amoxycillin, wifey wasn't sure which one it was but this sounds the most likely). So great...setting our daughter up for a lifetime of allergies. Wonderful. I only hope that she is strong enough to resist it...but she should be, considering she was full-term and is very healthy.
My wife and I are good friends with a woman who is not only an MD but also a doula and a childbirth education specialist. She has also given birth at home, and apparently more than once. We're going to see what she suggests, since she's got a lot more experience in this kind of thing than us.

It will work out man, just have faith and be positive and seriously assertive when need be. Rover is good people, I am sure all will be fine. I'm trying to send positive energy since I was a bit of a pain as I hadn't realized things were on this level. I have to try and make up for it somehow. I'm saying I hope that everything works out well in the end.
-
T2K, no worries, all's good. :D
Small update: Wifey just called to have me come pick her up so she can come home and prepare her milk pump. Luna's finally been removed from the incubator and placed in a regular bassinet. Looks like the hospital stay is coming to an end at long last.
-
Good for you Rover, now with this behind you, you can enjoy your new baby girl. - ICEMAN
-
Sorry about my rant but I did get mad over this. They also feed me a big line of crap while doing the chemo I do. Anyway Hope everything goes well for you and your family from here on out and you guys stay cool. Get that Lawyer though. I would not hesitate. someone has got to pay. whether its for putting someone behind bars or for the money. Go and at least see one and see what a lawyer says at the consultation. Lawyers are also another beast but I think you guys have something here.
-
(wtf? to administer it this early causes penicillin allergies in many, many children!)
Probably what happened to me. I am allergic to anything ending in 'cillin'. I hallucinated for weeks straight when I was younger after taking penicillin. I saw clay figures running around sticking their tongues out at me, matchstick soldiers with bayonettes guarding the couches, giant spiders between desks, popsicle sticks raining down from the ceiling, rainbows where rainbows shouldn't have been, you name it. Even after they sent me back to school here and there I'd see something for up until a few days later. Sounds like fun- but when you're a little kid it was anything but- was pretty f*cking scary.

Healthy babies shouldn't be in incubators. So either that doctor is comitting some serious malpractice, or your baby isn't as healthy as you think.
-
We're discovering that malpractice runs rampant in that particular hospital. They've committed dozens of mistakes with us alone, let alone the mistakes they've made with others I've spoken with while waiting around in the waiting rooms of the hospital. We're trying as hard as we can now to get Luna released from the hospital, as they've already screwed up too many times.

Give 'em nine millimeters of persuasion, and I'm not talking about what's in my pants.

:-s :|
Or a foot up their collective ass becuase this whole situation is bullshit.
-
Give 'em nine millimeters of persuasion, and I'm not talking about what's in my pants.
I would hope you have more than 9 millimeters in your pants.
-
I bet you would hope that. (Sorry, couldn't resist).
-
A foot up their collective asses is in order, and someone's powdering that foot as we speak. Many people know about what's going on now, and lots of people are pretty pissed off, including our doctor friend...hell, even the woman who's handling our mortgage is in the know now. Also, the scheduled release date is Saturday, but if the attending ped that was there on the night of admission is there tonight, and if the blood culture test results are back and are all negative as they should be, the chance of her being released tonight is very high.
Oh and believe me...the idea of nine millimeters has gone through my head, but my daughter doesn't need to grow up with a hardened criminal for a father.
-
Wow, I hadn't checked this thread in a couple days. All I can say is that I'm very sorry that this very important moment of your life has been marred by this incident. I hope that everything works out as well as it can.
-
Motherf*ckers! Who reported this? You have to be able to find out.
Yes, giving antibiotics to an infant, in my personal opinion, is irresponsible at the very least and malicious at the worst. People should be able to have a natural birth if they want to, but I strongly caution you to have a midwife next time, just incase something goes wrong. At least where I live midwifes are discoverable as long as you seek out the hippy type pople :D
Back to the people who did this to you though, once you find out who they are, you could go over to their house with a few cigars and some flowers. Then get yourself in the door, share the cigars and tell them you have a new daughter. Then tell them you just came over to give them these flowers, "I'd like you to have them to remember this occasion" you can say as you excuse yourself.
Oops, my evil side got out again there.
I triely hope everything turns out ok for you though Rover. I really do. Just because some people are ignorant does not mean you, your wife or your daughter should suffer. *hugs*
-
Hey Rover,
first of all congrats to your new family member :) I'm curious when it's the first time she says "PC-Engine" or "Turbo Grafx"
Sure, the bad thing is that actually you have such a trouble. I really hope that you find the people who cause this trouble to you and let them pay for that
I hope that everything will turn ok to you, so you and your family can enjoy your new baby :)

http://www.mothering.com/discussions/showthread.php?t=929259
My wife posted this thread and has generated quite the stir. We've been getting lots of ideas as to how to proceed from here. So, our plan for today is to go and see the procurator first thing in the morning, and then contact the lawyer that our doctor friend has recommended, a lawyer who has a lot of experience in these kinds of cases. From there, depending on the outcome of these two contacts, we'll either go back to the hospital for an AMA, or bring the lawyer along for a little legal mayhem. Either way, we're going to get our daughter back today come hell or high water. and then...whoever ran their mouth in this neighborhood...is in for a pretty savage beating.
-
Wow, I have to say your wife's account of the story is more upsetting than how you put it.
I can't really give much help other than try to focus on the positive out of the whole ordeal -- congrats once again to the both of you for the healthy baby girl. :D
-
I would hope you have more than 9 millimeters in your pants.
Oh yeah, it's at least ten, maybe even eleven.
Either way, we're going to get our daughter back today come hell or high water. and then...whoever ran their mouth in this neighborhood...is in for a pretty savage beating.
Good luck escaping the hospital today. Give Nosy McNosersen a punch in the neck for me.
-
Update:
We got ahold of the procurator, who instructed us to contact the medical director at the hospital, which we then did. It seems that we were screwed either way...you see, in Puerto Rico, the state has way too much power. If we had refused the ambulance on Sunday, they would have taken our daughter by force the next day and we'd not see her again for a long time, which means she'd be f*cked for life. But since we went along with their bullshit, we get our daughter back earlier. But regardless, because of one mouthy motherf*cker, we have lost all control of our daughter's health until the pediatrician releases her. We can't do AMA because the state doesn't allow for it...once she was admitted to the hospital, we lost all parental rights (with the exception of vaccines, since that's a federal law and supersedes any PR laws). Well, the culture results come back tomorrow, and if they check out, the pediatrician will release her at 3PM. Of course, if they come back with problems, she has to stay longer, and there's nothing we can do about it because Big Brother says no.
They claim that on Tuesday, she developed an infection on her back. Wifey changed her diaper on Wednesday and saw no such problem (although we weren't told about said problem until just today). Furthermore, according to our doctor friend, what she had was more than likely caused by fungus (likely from improper handling of their linens). It could have been bacteria or fungus, but bacteria is ruled out due to the antibiotics...which, in turn, allowed the fungus to attack her. That's yet another f*ckup stacked onto our growing case.
But there exists a silver lining. The hospital is not supposed to allow any harm to come to our child, since she became a ward of the state as soon as I signed that admission paper. So if anything happens to her, the state takes it out on the hospital, Therefore, we will get our daughter back...she won't get sold off on the black market (which happens a LOT down here), and she won't mysteriously develop a fatal illness (which tends to happen here too). However, that protection comes at a price...we have no rights to our child until the hospital releases her. Double-edged sword I suppose, but at least we know they can't make our daughter disappear.
-
Rover,
Why didn't you have a midwife, or similar licensed person, present during the birth?
Anytime I've heard of someone doing the home birth, they had someone of that sort present.
I've never heard of someone having issues you're having when the birth was at a birthing center.
It seems to me, this hassle could have been avoided if you looked into local laws. Did you research local laws prior to the home birth?
-
What is a midwife? Are they the wife that you get to boink when your normal wife is pregnant and unboinkable?
-

Well, I WAS the midwife...well, the midhusband. The problem came from someone calling 911 reporting domestic violence, and compounded by an inept hospital. The laws of the land do not prohibit home birthing...we're pretty well-informed on the legal status of everything we've done. The only thing we didn't know about, since we had no idea we were going to be ripped from our home, was how the state government can rape you of your parental rights. We had prepared for everything we knew to prepare for, which all revolved around the safety of my wife and child. We had no idea we were going to be violated. Furthermore, they broke the law...they had no physical evidence whatsoever, so they had no real reason to take us...all they had was the bullshit rambling of a psychotic old coot.
Joe, a midwife is a birthing specialist who assists in delivery of your child. They are typically female, but there are a few midhusbands as well.

I don't recall you mentioning the domestic violence in the earlier posts, though mayeb I missed it.
You may have acted as the midwife, but do you have any experience as one, other than for your wife?
I have a feeling had a certified midwife been present, you may not have had the issues you have now. If there was a call of domestic violence, I'm sure the midwife could have had somethign to say also.
If the laws in your area are that no licensed/certified midwife/nurse/whomever be present, than you should have been left alone that night.
My only stance on things of this sort, is unless you live VERY close to a hospital ro doctor, it is a GOOD IDEA to have someone with medical or birthing CERTIFICATION at, or nearby. Also, many birthing centers are located inside, or not too far from hospitals. Shit happens, some births have complications. It's a good idea to have someone nearby who can help.
It sounds like quite a hassle you have to deal with, so I won't go on anymore about how things "Could have" been done.

To derail this thread a bit...
Rover, from this thread, and other posts of yours, I see you are one of the "All natural" types. It's a good idea to limit your exposure to chemicals when you don't need to be around them, however it's impossible to avoid everything. Your Turbo grafx and PC Engine more than likely have flame retardants in the plastic. Same goes for your matress, sofa, etc. Reminds me of this article I once posted abotu why SNES' turn yellow; Fire retardant, hahaha - http://www.vintagecomputing.com/index.php/archives/189
Anyway, the derailing has to do with some of what you've said concerning vaccines. From what I've read, Thimersol isn't in ALL vaccines, and some it was never present. http://www.fda.gov/cber/vaccine/thimerosal.htm
I'm glad there are vaccines. Polio, Mumps, and many others could still be very prominent in every day life if there were no vaccines. Chicken Pox, Measles, Mumps etc many children "Get over", however hearing some man talk about how mumps made him infertile, and he wasn't too happy about it.... I'm glad there is a mumps vaccine. Seeing consequences for polio....
I still deal with vaccinations now. Every 10 years or so a Tetanus booster. Hepatitis A I didn't exactly NEED, however it was good to have. If an AIDS vaccination comes along, you can stick me with that one! Herpes vacciantion? If one happens, I'll get jabbed with it also!
Vaccinations have their place. There are risks, no vaccine is 100% safe, information sheets usually make notice fo the slight chance of itching, fever, death, etc.
Vaccinations have done a lot of good.

Update:
We found out tonight that they have expedited the paperwork, and our daughter will be released at 11AM tomorrow. They have to do a PKU test in the morning but that's it. Neither my wife nor I have PKU problems, and since it must be inherited from both parents, the chance of her having it is zero percent. Anyways, we believe that the doctor, who is the most ignorant sack of shit I have encountered in years, has caught on...I think he knows now that my wife is far more educated than the average mother and isn't actually believing the bullshit that's been coming out of his mouth. That's why the paperwork process has been sped up considerably and they gave us a definite time of release rather than just saying that it would be 3PM unless the culture tests come back with problems. The culture test results aren't even back yet, and they're doing the paperwork already? Hrm...someone smells blood in the water and wants to wash their hands of us as soon as possible.
When I get a chance, I'll write out for you guys all the fun, ignorant things the doctors and even some of the nurses have said to us. Those of you in the know will find them quite humorous. :D
MrFulci: Whatever lets you sleep at night.

Update:
We got our daughter back at long last. They managed to piss off my wife one last time by lying to us yet again...apparently, social services still had to clear her release and hadn't done it yet. So, we had left the hospital in a rage, headed for home. A few minutes later, they called us up and told us that they had cleared the case and that our daughter could be released. So a little after 2PM, she was finally freed from the grip of this sadistic, ignorant, and antiquated malpractice shop they call a "hospital". She's now home with us, safe and sound.
Tonight, we will find out just who the f*ck made that phone call and whatever happens from there happens. On Monday, we'll be in touch with the procurator and possibly the lawyer, and we'll be getting her medical records (they weren't open today...how convenient, it gives the hospital all weekend to make changes to Luna's medical records).
Let the blood bath begin.
