I have yet to get a San Disk 2 GB card to work in my Wii. I really don't want to have to send my Wii in, if I can avoid it. The message I get is something about "this device doesn't work in the WII". I tried it in both the save files area & the photo channel. Is there a way to format just the SD card in a WII, instead of formatting the whole damn system?
-
I never had that problem, that's strange. Dumb obvious question, but does the SD card work for other devices?
-
Does a line or a + appear on it when you pee on it?
In all seriousness though, could you sandisk card be a fake? That is my only thought right now.
-
All the cards I've tried, work just fine in my PS3, but, not my Wii. It's possible, that atleast one of the ones I got is fake, & the 2 I just bought from Costco, are Ultra II's, & someone mentioned to me that those probably won't work in any Wii. I have another one coming in the mail, which is probably fake, but, it was cheap, & specifically said it was for the Wii.
-
Due to its technical inferiority, the Wii is VERY picky about the types of cards it will work with.
-
You have to be careful that you don't buy fake cards. They're no fun for nuthin'.

roflmao! I love wii jokes :)

That's what I'm afraid of ](*,)

What the hell is a fake card? How could anyone sell something like that? If it works on the PS3 I doubt it is fake since a fake card wouldn't do anything at all no matter what.

I bet 2 out of 3 cards for sale on the internet are fakes. Fakes are made in places like China (when you are lucky) and they do work, but often they are very slow and they will not hold the capacity of data they claim. For example, cards which say they hold 2GB, might say that in numbers on a PC, but they will stop accepting data after one GB. Other fake cards which are higher quality might be 1.6GB after formatting when a genuine card might be 1.7 or 1.8. In these cases the fake card will still be slower, often many times slower than the geniune memory. The PS3 and PSP are VERY accepting of fake memory so I wouldn't be suprised if the sandisc card was fake unless he bought it from New Egg or some other large retailer. On ebay or amazon for example about 90% are fake when it comes to MS Duo Pros.

I once bought a 3rd party memory card for the PS2 that CLAIMED 16 MB of memory. I was absolutely pissed to find out that it really didn't offer 16MB of memory as it was labeled on the box and the card itself, but instead 32MB of memory! I guess this was an example of a fake card. Many people were sued that day, I can tell you!

It might have just been misslabeled by the Chinese person who wrote the English on it. A lot of the 3rd party PS2 memory cards which are 32MBs are actually a 16MB X 2 card where there are 2 banks which are read as one. I've also seen these labeled confusingly as 16MB X 2 (on the card itself).

Why the hell would you buy an SD card over the Internet? It probably costs more to ship the thing than it's worth. I got a 2GB SD card for my Wii from Walgreen's like 2 weeks ago for $9.99, it works great.

SD cards in stores are WAY overpriced. I've gotten 2 SD cards over the internet, and both were cheaper, with shipping, than what's in the stores.

I bought my cards from Fry's when they had a sale. Cards are so cheap these days though. Back when I got mine, they were costly! :x

But when we're talking $10 in a store, how much cheaper can they get online? I imagine anywhere you buy them online charges at least $5 for shipping alone, on top of whatever the card costs. So you got two cards online for less than $10? Even if so, it's hard to fathom you got them for MUCH less than that. Even if the card was free (which I doubt), and you only paid the $5 shipping, that's still $5 + a week wait or whatever for it to show up at your house. I'd rather spend $5 extra and have it in my hands that very moment. But even then, that's talking best possible case online scenario.

I just got a card over the net, was this no brand 2GB for 8 bucks with free shipping. And guess what.......IT WORKS!!!! All my San Disk cards I got thru various means(one ebay, 2 Ultra II's while I was at Costco, 1 from Verizon when my wife got a new phone) didn't work! But, this card that arrived today, I just pushed it in for a second, & it works, no problem, files copy over, pictures work, etc! I did get one of the other card to register in my Wii, that it had pictures, but, the pictures themselves wouldn't load. Man, & I was just about to buy some specifically Wii branded SD cards off of Costco.com!

Where are you shopping?! even Wally world doesn't have 'em that cheap.

Walgreen's have 2GB cards for $9.95. SanDisk brand. Luckily I have a Walgreen's right out the front door of my apartment, took me about 30 seconds to walk there, 10 more to grab the card, probably a minute in line/paying the paltry $10, then 30 seconds to walk back into my apartment. The longest part of the process was by far removing the ridiculous industrial-strength plastic they use to package the suckers.
As you can see, it's tough for me to fathom trying to deal with buying some unknown crap over the Internet which might save me $2 in a best case scenario, but has only a 50/50 chance of working, plus a 100% chance of not being in my hands the moment I click the "Place Order" button.
-
That's awesome, I'll have to look out for SD cards next time I'm at Walgreens.
-
The closest Walgreens to me, is in the Valley, about 30 minutes away :P
-
I have a 4gb non-sdhc card that works fine on my Wii and only paid 15 bucks shipped to my house!!!
-
You got a 4GB to work in your Wii? Cool! Supposedly, it will only support up to 2GB!
-
Well any non-SDHC will work on the Wii, it is that 99% of any SD over 2gb is in fact SDHC. I got this card when 4gb SD's first came out before SDHC was even avalible. It was for an old camera and cost a ton as they use some funky tech stuff in order to make them work as they aren't standard compliant. Works real good for VC game's and the Twilight hack :) Just god luck finding one of these as they aren't made anymore and no one sells them :P
-
Is support for SDHC SD's possible thru a firmware? Or is that strictly a hardware thing?
-
Strictly hardware. I know as I had to go buy new flash carts for the DS once SDHC came out.

That stinks ](*,)
