Title: The Neutopia Series

When I was a kid, I was in love with the two Neutopia games.  I recently played through Neutopia 2 and though it's basically an 8-bit Zelda rip off, I still had a great time with it.  The story is a bit generic and the game is pretty straight forward, but for those who have spent enough time in Hyrule, these games are a nice substitute.  

Any additional thoughts?

Well, they're a nice substitute/clone of Zelda 1. I can't possibly imagine anyone with all their senses in tact comparing either Neutopia favorably against Zelda 3 and up.

The Zelda series really evolved and evolved while Neutopia 1 and 2 are just nicer looking clones of Zelda 1 with more of a story and better graphics.

^ agreed.  I love the names of the enemies in these games.  these silly names are probably the result of localization, but that's my speculation...

Yeah, that would have been awesome in the same way Dungeon Explorer 2 was pretty friggin' cool on the SCD.

Neutopia II had a few odd bugs and omissions in it that sorta detracted from its gameplay, such as the way enemies 'fall back' when hit by magic and the absence of burning trees. I guess there's only so much they could stuff into 6mbit though.

I enjoy the Neutopia games, but haven't got around to beating the second one. I personally have more fun with them than the original (well maybe) and the third Zelda games, although Zelda II is one of my favorite games of all time and Neutopia can't quite compete with it, even though they are completely different games. Anyways, Neutopia rules and they are very well done Zelda clones.
