I've tried Ebay, but everywhere I look, it's just far too expensive.

How much are they selling for on ebay?  I think they just ARE quite expensive.  My friend bought one last year and I think he paid close to $250 for it right in Japan.

For me a Duo-R and a new controller is about the same thing and cheaper, but I suppose if you are a collector you need the RX.

Last time I checked, the prices seemed to range from $200-$300.

complet'n mint stuff has its prize. so in japan. i've seen DUO-RX (w/o box)  for $50 and comlete for $220+. but usually the lose also go for $150+,. but if you're patient, you can find one below the $100 mark.
if you want it cheap, get it incomplete!

Word life, mate.  After cracking open both units and comparing I came down with a case of buyer's remorse
for the RX.  Really, the only difference between the two is the PRICE and a control pad.

I think you just need a FX in your life now Woody, then you can have two NEC systems side by side with nearly the exact same controller

The one advantage to the RX is that it is newer, even if both were still "new" in package, and NEC seemed to be fixing tiny flaws in their Duos with each revision.
