Title: Questions Regarding Flash Cart with Japanese Systems
Post by: Golgo13 on August 27, 2008, 12:54:11 AM
I am seriously considering buying one of those neo team PCE flash carts. And I hope you guys can help me come to a decision about it, I read in a previous thread of various strange problems with them and compatability issues.  I want to know if it is really worth it.

Currently I own a Japanese Duo, a PC Engine GT modded to play both US and Japanese games with a switch, and an American TG16.

I want to know if any of you can verify it works with the Jap Duo, ideally I would like to be able to play US games on the card too with the Jap Duo, because breaking out the American TG16 for the few US games I have can be a pain.

I have windows XP and some USB ports and a parallel port on my laptop.

Any general info you guys can give me about this I would appreciate.

I have a US Turbo Express, a japanese Duo, and I used to have an American Duo.  The Neo Flash card worked great on all of them.  When you write to the card, there is an option to select "PCE" or "TG16" mode, so if you go between a US and Japanese system you have to rewrite the card.

On the American system, you can burn any rom to it and it will work.  On the Japanese system, there are a few US roms that won't work, but that's generally not an issue since most US games havea  Japanese release that is already in English anyway. The only US game that I've run into so far that absolutely will not work is Cadash.

I would get the 64mb card rather than the 128mb one. There have been some problems with the latter, and the 64mb card (which I have) seems a safer bet.

Quoth09 was working on a group buy for the 128mb version (clicky (http://www.pcenginefx.com/forums/index.php?topic=5380.msg95873#msg95873)), but I don't know if that went anywhere.  To go it alone or for a 64mb version, you'll want to head here (http://www.ic2005.com/shop/home.php?cat=2).

I don't know about a US seller, but I bought mine directly from http://www.ic2005.com (http://www.ic2005.com/) when it first came out.  Somehow it got from China to North Carolina in 3 days.

No one else sells this? Perhaps in Europe?

BTW there is an alternative on tototek.com.

I justr recieved mine the other day, it works good and I did not encounter any of the problems with installation or drivers.  I live in Europe and it took me about 5 business days to receive it.  If you order from IC2005.com you must post on the customer service private message board to inform them you made an order in addition to ordering on the website, otherwise it can get delayed, read their FAQ.

The US roms do not work on the Japanese systems.  Gotta break out my TG-16 for that later.

There are cracked versions of nearly all the US Roms that do work on the Jap systems. In fact I was playing the US Chase HQ on my white PC Engine an hour ago - I know it's the US one because the speech ain't in Japanese..

yes, Its because of the code programmed into them that japanese systems check for. However as some have said there are cracked versions of the roms availible, I would like to hear more information about where to find those roms but please PM me.

another question - would this emulate the Super CD and Arcade cards??? That would be pretty cool!

Unfortunately, no.  Since the flash cart doesn't actually have ram, it doesn't work.  You can load the system cards on there, but they only work if you have a Duo with the cards built in.  They only use for this I've found is to use old system cards on Super CD games to see what the system does. Dracula X is funny.
