i just felt like pointing out that this game is the exact same as the genesis/mega drive version.
...except for the number of players. 4 players on Genesis. 5 players on PC Engine.

As far as game play goes, they're pretty much the same. Graphically, the genny version lacks a lot of detail (i.e. - flat, single colored ground) and is nowhere near as colorful. The genny version has extra animated stars on the opening cinema, but it also lacks the underwater wavy effect, has a whites only crowd at the 'victory' screen, and is missing some of the animated spectators on a few multi-player maps.

Music on the genesis version better, but graphically the pce version wins hands down.
Other that the pce has the edge suporting 5p then 4p on the genesis version.
That's all realy when it boils down to it.

I do prefer the genny sound though.. the pce version.. bomberman 94 has the weakest music compared to the other bomberman games. imo.
that's right so far, but the BM'93 and original BM BGM blows all others away with ease. BM'94 most weak point was teh sloppy BGM.

The Genesis version has some pretty bad slowdown in spots, mainly the final stage, even though it lacks nearly all of the background animation. The PC Engine version has a tiny bit of flicker that most people wouldn't notice.
One area is dark (black) with a spotlight on Bomberman in the PC Engine version, but the entire background in uncovered in the Genesis version.
I haven't compared the music directly yet, but so far the Genesis version sounds better overall.
Game & Watch Kirby has a detailed comparison in the works. I'll be providing a bunch of media for it, two videos of which i have up on youtube-

News flash, Super Bomberman 3 for the SNES is ALSO a version of Bomberman 94, though, I believe most the music is different. Also, the Genny version does have a few different songs. And, I dig BM94's music over the Genny's. Super Bomberman 4 however, IIRC, uses alot of songs from BM94.
Though, I do like some of the beats in Super Bomberman 3, they're fat, no doubt.

I did not know about Super Bomberman 3, while not a direct port of BM 94 it does have the same overall theme, but the graphics have taken a nose dive and the music isn't as good in my opinion.

Yeah, it was sales. The Mega Drive was all but dead in Japan by the time this game came out, so it was probably an export-oriented afterthought. Hence the drop in quality. It could have been better than it was for sure.

Super Bomberman 3 only uses a similar aesthetic style and is to BM'94/MB what the <16-bit Bonk or Sonic games are to each other. It's cool that they remade classic Bomberman tunes like BM'93's title music though. :)
