No, the SuperGrafx is expanded hardware and although it can play PCE games (or TG-16 through region mod) while switched to PC Engine mode, true SuperGrafx games are not backwards compatible. The only sorta exceptions are bicompatible games like Darius Plus, which is really just a PC Engine game with an additional SuperGrafx mode/variant built-in.

This is actually a fantasy of mine. I dream of having a black Duo that could play Super HuCards!  =P~

I wonder if, theoretically, the extra hardware for the SuperGrafx could be added to a TG-16.

I imagine that that someone could either fit the innards of a region switched SuperGrafx into a TG-16 (a SGX in a Turbo Express was attempted) or make a TG-16 style shell that's maybe a little different that would accommodate less hardware surgery.

But I believe I remember the possibility of a PC Engine being upgraded being discussed in the past and it was supposed to not be feasible because of how embedded the extra hardware is in a SuperGrafx and/or something else not-so hardware specific.

Any sources on that attempted SGX Turbo Express? Haven't heard of that before!

Word life.  That might be something I'd like to try if I ever come across some scroungeable parts.  8)

It was the founder of gamesx (Lawrence?) who had began work on it a long time ago. There was a page for the project at one point, the most I could find now are these old updates on the main page-

A few new updates: The Xbox AV pinout listed C-Sync where C-Video was present (Thanks to a very angry person for pointing that out). The GameGear cartridge pinout had a pin count error. Also, I've been slaving like mad over a PC Engine schematic as well as a SuperGrafx schematic with the eventual goal of putting the SGX chips in a Turbo Express. Portable SuperGrafx anyone?

2. Been working on a half dozen projects:
SGX in TE On Hold - I took a break making the schematic and lost my place, I hate starting over. Also the thought of a mod with 200+ wires to solder kinda makes me tired just thinking about it.

It sounds like he'd figured it out, but it was simply too much work.

it would be cool to take a working but busted up sgx and take the boards out of it and put them in a turbografx 16 case.talk about having a "sleeper" for hardware.sleeper is a term used by someone taking a plain looking beater type car and putting in a real fire breathing engine in it,hiding and not advertising the gargantuan horse power so to speak.

You mean like an NES that houses a PC running an NES emulator?

I think it would be cool to hide an older console inside of a newer one. Like a Saturn that only plays SMS games or an N64 that plays Collecovision carts. :P

HAHA!! The ultimate would be a flip-top NES that runs Turbochips!! It could still be spring loaded, but only as a gimmick, with the lowering mechanism not affecting the reading of the Turbochips in any way!
