Title: Game Storage
Post by: hoobs88 on October 03, 2008, 06:14:51 PM
When I first started collecting games, I used a CD Tower. The problem is that it only holds 120 jewel cases and no double sized ones (like the ones for Beyond Shadowgate and Vasteel) and I recently surpassed that total. Any suggestions or recommendations as to what to use to store my collection so that everything will fit and also be on display? What do you guys use?

Man, I use nothing, I have no display right now, everything is in boxes, which sucks but my suggestion is to look for a nice wood cabinet to stack the games. CD Racks are ok but the right cabinet can look better.

I have mine in divided drawers.  Since you want to display your collection and not just give 'em a home, then I recommend simple book shelves.

I use bookshelves myself.

This is probably no help at all, but my dad built a custom cabinet in 1992 for my mom's CDs and my TurboGrafx games. Come 2008, I inherited the cabinet at one point or another, and they still contain my TurboGrafx games, less my mom's CDs.

The cabinet, however, has doors that close over the front, so my collection is not on 'display.'

if you once really get a shit load of jewel cases but haven't a villa or such to store them with ease, i guess the best and most economic way is like following:

although it's not the nicest way to keep games^^".

These worked really well for me…

I had 3 of them, one was larger in width and the amount of stuff they can hold was just silly… they took up very little room and are sturdy as hell. You can buy them at walmart (came in black as well, i think :-k) they are not the cheapest but they are the best solution i have found for displaying and storing.

I have upgraded since then to custom bookshelves but it the end i still prefer these, i wish the were taller as they would have been added to my games room.

I have three large bookshelves. Not the ideal solution tho.

Bookshelfs is your best choice. I have no space for something like that, so use large plastic bins which you can get at Wal-Mart for $6 a piece. May not look cool but it protects my games at least.

Same style of case as Sparky, just different color.

I used a mixture of these cheap stackable furniture (I think at the time it was made by rubbermaid, but they don't seem to have them anymore) and some IKEA bookcases. :P

Oh, and I tend to take the oversized boxes (Saturn, early PSX, 3D0) and put them in storage while I keep the instructions in regular CD cases with me.
