Whats the language barrier in the PCE version of this game like?
-
I've played through only the US version, but I don't think it would be very difficult to make it through the Japanese rendition. You usually don't have many options as far as ways to go are concerned. Making progress is more about paying close attention to details of the environment (remembering a keyhole or a ledge that you'll need to return to later, for instance) as opposed to following clues. There are only a couple towns, and most of the speech serves to advance the story rather than to give you hints. If you find yourself stuck, there are links to two walkthroughs for the game listed in the "Compendium of Walkthroughs" thread at the top of this board.

I swear I heard or read somewhere that Shapeshifter was among the releases that came out in the US but not in Japan. Can anyone confirm or refute this?

It was definitely released in Japan as well. With terribly inferior cover art.

I also made a Castlevania style map for it-

I was recently playing Shapeshifter and my copy started glitching when I got to the second town. When the Old Lady was talking, there was no audio. It wouldn't let me into some of the doors when they were clearly open.

Be aware this game erases saves! :shock:I was hours into cosmic fantasy 2 and Ys before having to start all over after just trying this game out.

Yeah, I've warned about that numerous times. Guess it never hurts to reiterate though. Still, don't let that stop you. Shape Shifter is a fantastic game. Back those other suckers up and let 'er rip. Don't stop 'til you've beat it.
