Title: Midwest Gaming Classic show get together planning
Post by: nectarsis on October 17, 2008, 12:54:50 PM
Midwest Gaming Classic

Olympia Resort and Conference Center
Oconomowoc, WI  (30 minutes west of Milwaukee)
March 21-22, 2009

http://www.myspace.com/midwestgamingclassic

Their main site is down at the moment (being redone).

There has been talk of doing a get together of board members for the MGC next Year.  Looking for people who plan on coming to the get together.  There are ideas being thrown around at this time...from stuff at the hotel the show is being held at, get togethers at my house, plans in Milwaukee, etc.

This is so interested people can get together plan possible carpooling, etc. Also so we can have a head count for people (food/planwise, etc.).

You can post, or PM me directly for any questions, or ideas :)

PICS UP

I haven't done a whole lot of planning for the next MGC, but I'll probably be there as usual. A get together would be great, especially considering how easy it is to miss fellow PCEFXers there. I'll have to see if I can attend that later.

Windlancer it's nice to hear that you are coming! It's always nice to see people willing to travel long ways to come :) . I've been in charge of Turbo Fest for the past couple of years and if you want to help with that, you're more than welcome to.

Hey, can you guys let me know what this is about (mainly opinions/impressions)?  What kinds of setups are there?  Sellers, or only to play?  I gotta say I'm pretty curious because I only live about an hour away (just across the Wisconsin/Illinois border), so any info/opinions would be great.  Thanks!

It's a classic gaming convention held in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. There are tons of games to play, sellers, speeches, and contests. I've written articles with pictures on my website here (http://www.lazerdorks.org/stunningarticles/index.html) for the past three MGCs.

I've been meaning to ask you where you live in Illinois? I live in the south Chicago subburb of Crete, which you probably haven't heard of. There are quite a few Chicago PCEFXers here and Wisconsiners too.

Cool, I'm pretty sure that I'm going, this sounds awesome....I live in Rockford, directly south from Madison, or west of Chicago-right now I commute between Rockford and Dekalb, where I'm at school (N.I.U.)
So yeah, I'm really close to you guys, I imagine  :)

Sounds cool! There is a Hitch in all my plans now though. I was laid off from work this week. My work says its temporary but they have lied to us since they started laying off. So now im gonna have to see where im sitting now. another 10 years down the tubes.

I will be there again (as usual.) We'll be setup in the museum area with the other guys and gals from VGEVO. I'm not sure of many more details yet though, but I figured that I'd stop by here and see if anyone was making plans yet

I'm on a Turbo-Kick lately, so I'm pretty stoked for the show this year!

I'd love to go, but I'm on the NWCGE board, and regardless of the fun involved, running one convention a year is enough. It's a lot of work!

Still, if I end up heading out that way, I might be able to make it. We'll see.

I am pretty stoked for MGC this year!

I have been playing the hell out of my Turbo lately, and I just found Fatal Fury II and World Heroes 2 for around $17 each down at a small shop in Chicago. I can't wait to have my wallet drained by the vendors at MGC again this year

Dude I would do anything to get John Brandstetter to come! How were you even able to contact him? I think I tried emailing him back in 2004/2005 but got no response.

And yeah, blaming Johnny Turbo for the Duo's destruction is stupid. I see the Johnny Turbo ads as a farewell joke more than anything else.

There technically is going to be one, but it's just gonna be a set up of a Turbo Duo, Super Grafx, PC-FX, and maybe something else and I think will just sort of be merged with the other systems in the museum area. I think it will be like how it was before 2007.

Excellent, I've never had a chance to try out a PC-FX before.

So we should all meet up at the Turbo area at some point -- maybe play some Bomberman or a little high score competition in one of the shooters.

Unfortunately things crumbled for me at the last minute and couldn't make it :( :( :( . The person I had coming with me to help with directions backed out and I became exhausted from spending the night digging my fat dog out from underneath a gazebo, as crazy as that sounds. Really, really was hoping to make it this year. Sorry to anyone who was depending on me for something (DHG for setting up my PCE, Nectarsis for buying his SNES, Guyjin for a game of Shadowrun). I will make sure no such things get in the way next year.

The Turbo wasn't set up until the second day because the AC port on the back of the system was loose, but luckily with Ben Heck there with his group, they were able to find someone with the screw driver head late Saturday and fix it up good as new.  As for why the PC Engine wasn't there... Well, you know that story already. ;)

Sounds like a lackluster turnout compared to years past.

Maybe from the Turbo community a bit, but actually the turn out for the show beat last year's numbers handily.  Next year we're moving to a larger facility...   :-"

Yay, can we get a place with a separate room for the speakers instead of having them in the hallway?

We were thinking the parking lot next year...

Marty was on hand, btw, talking about the Gene Simmons' Guitar controller they helped design, 2600-style PC joysticks, and a portable Atari Flashback console I believe.

Here's 3 videos from the event, done early on Sunday (the second day) as to avoid the traffic from later on in the day and especially on Saturday.

The Turbo Duo was up that day... ;)
