Title: Any Use For A PS2 Internet Adapter?
Post by: mobiusclimber on October 23, 2008, 11:14:01 AM
I just got one off a PS2 I bought from Craigslist and am wondering if there's anything that uses it or...? Is the hard drive separate from this? Do I need the one to use the other?

It plugs on to the back of the origional american style ps2s, the HD plugs into it, but you do not need the HD to use the network adapter.  Without a HD you could still stream media to the ps2 and play it off your network from a desktop PC for example.

It has amazing uses for hacking and warez, other than that I don't know.

I'd like to hear HOW to use it for streaming, etc.  Adding a regular hard drive allows you to use HD Loader or whatever to illegally pirate PS2 games!!!!!  Anything illegal is good.  However there is another benefit.  You can play Japanese ISOs on your unmodified US PS2 this way.  However you will need to have a compatible program to load the ISOs on your PC to the PS2-formatted hard drive.  You can't load a Japanese game to the HD using the PS2 itself like you can with US games.

You run the media player of your choice from the memory card using the mcboot exploit and then just have the ps2 hooked up to your router.  You might have to manually set up the IP in the media player.

So what's the method of choice to get the mcboot exploit on a memory card?

Have someone with a McBoot card copy it for you to your own memory card.  Otherwise buy a gameshark that can use the USB or a ps2 memory card to PC adapter, or a memory card with a usb port on it.

But as far as playing games online, the answer's no?

Oh, you can do that, yeah. The Tony Hawk games and SOCOM and bunch of other crap you either won't care about, or some good stuff like Outrun that you'll never find matches for.

More and more ps2 online servers are shut down as time goes on, so it is harder and harder to find an online game worth playing on it.

Yeah, that figures I guess. I can't really think of any games I'd want to play online anyway besides FFXI and that requires the hard drive. (Might as well play that on the 360 if I'm going to play it.) Thanks for the info. :)
