Most of you have seen the Sansui controller mod. Hoobs88 is the new owner of this one-of-a-kind controller for the Duo. I have done a NES to Duo controller conversion before, but this one is special. It has a built in headphone jack that I updated to work with the Duo. Normal Duo controllers have 8 data lines, this one has 10 with 2 dedicated lines for stereo sound. The stereo lines run in the controller wire until a "breakout connector" where a mini jack is fed to the Duo's headphone port. This allows you to listed to stereo sound by plugging a headphone into your controller instead of having to run a 2nd wire. Let me break down the features for you:

I updated my original NES to Duo guide in PDF format complete with photos and diagrams. I also added a "how to" on adding Turbo fire circuitry. Here are some photos, and a link to the updated guide.

Here are links to a few of the pads that have recently made appearances on ebay
for those of you interested in doing the controller hack.

Pardon my ignorance, but are Duo controllers so rare that it would merit hacking a less expensive nintendo pad worth the trouble?

Are Duo controllers rare? No. Are 6ft controllers with headphone jack built in rare? Yes there is only 1 as of right now and that one belongs to Hoobs88. You are missing the point if you think a controller mod is done for economic reasons. It is probably better illustrated when someone converts a Saturn controller fo system X.

Thanks for the guide. I for one, quite like this particular mod, especially the headphone jack bit.

I didn't go into details on headphone jack but it is really simple. I used a wire with 2 extra lines for sound. I ran those lines inside the controller, removed the circuitry that was originally built in (sound shift, etc) and sent that straight to the headphone jack. Very straightforward, but I went the extra length of removing all unnecessary components inside the Sansui.
