i don't have a specific link for PC Engine but this one should contain some of my PC Engine stuff... :p
All are originals (I don't dig CDRs). Imports are all complete, near mint or mint. I have several loose US Hucards though that I'll be replacing with complete imports over time.
Currently in the post, and on the way to my home are:
Detana Twinbee Ys 1,2,3,4 (Japanese versions) Super Star Soldier Gunhed NEC Avenue 6 pad (brand new, boxed) Kaze Kiri: Ninja Action Xak III

Could you comment on how good the conversions of these games are?
Particularly Fatal Fury Special in comparison to the Neo Geo/Arcade version; I'm really interesting in picking that one up.
Any help appreciated.

I have a small collection:
3-1 Duo pack in cd Air Zonk Bloody Wolf China Warrior Dungeon Explorer Keith Courage Legendary Axe Legendary Axe II Lords of Thunder Ordyne Super Darius TV Sports Football TV Sports Hockey
As for FFS and WH2, you should just get those games in AES format. They will probably actually be cheaper than PCE versions and will be arcade perfect with zero loading times...

I can't speak of the other games, but Street Fighter 2 is a fantastic conversion. The gameplay is spot-on, and the graphics are excellent (considering the color pallete limitations). I think it plays better than the other original 16-bit console versions. In comparison to the SNES version, I like this one a bit better, though the music isn't quite as well done due to limitations in the PCE's synth (but still sounds pretty good).
You *need* a 6-button NEC Avenue Pad for it though, because the control mapping for the 2-button pad is really stupid (in my opinion). I would think it would be better to assign one punch and one kick to the I and II buttons, but it sets light/med/hard to run/I/II, and you have to switch between punch and kick with the slect button. It's *much* too hard to play this way, and it won't allow you to remap the controls in the options menu.

Yes,here we go.... SF 2 Champ. How it rates to me: I liked this version the most of the 16-bit ports. Its graphics are very sharp, very colorful, and everything seemed right on. All the voices were there, and much clearer then the Genesis/MegaDrive counterparts. In fact sound as a whole sounds better to me then the Sega port. Voice wise extremely close to Snes in fact. On the monitor I use:Apex 24 inch, the Pc Engine Sf just looks better/sharper then both the Snes SF2 Turbo, and Genesis Sf2 Special Champ. I modded a Docs 6 button arcade stick, that was for Snes,to work as a Pc Engine stick.I used the 6 button layout as a means to place it like this: 4 5 6 select blank blank 1 2 3 Run ButtonII Button I
It makes it much smoother to switch between punch and kick function on SF2. Fatal Fury Special and World Heros 2 both support this layout perfect. On FF Special Select acts as a weak attack,so you get a SNK 4 button like layout.World Heros 2 uses a 3 buttonlayout consisting of Run and buttons 2 and 1. Which like FF Special,is perfect with my arcade stick. My stick uses micro switchs, and is very durable. I have had FF Special on MVS and AES both. And World Heros 2 also. The Arcade Card Pro FF Special has better music quality then the carts. It also uses Roland Sound. The voices are near perfect. The screen size is full screen.Everything is there intact.EVERYTHING! Load times are almost nill actually.1-2 secs. All animation is there, including forward and back animations when characters walk. Picture just as sharp as the NEO aes system I used. Characters exact same size. The thuds are a little off. When Characters go to the back grounds, they get smaller like the Neo version. It makes the Sega CD and Snes cart look like a joke. WW2. It does the exact same, makes the Snes version look like a joke. The animation is all there, voices are very clear, very close to neo. load times are between 2-8 secs.
Characters are exact same size. Capt Kid has his vulture,on Snes he doesnt..... has opening intro,Snes doesnt. Cd quality music on intro and fights, snes doesnt, and neither does the Neo carts. All bonus rounds are there and intact. Pict very sharp, colors right on.So close to neo it makes you wonder.... The tank busting trough the wall in Brockens stage is even there The only grip.....they did a black bar at the top of the screen, not large, and used it for the energy bars and crap. This is fine though,it didnt affect the size of anything, everything is the exact same size as the Neo none the less.unlike the Snes ports of fighters, where the black bars have nothing in them, and where the screen is cropped and everything is much smaller then the arcade versions.Snes ports sucked...... I paid 23 bucks each for both WW2 and FF Special. FF Special was new sealed. WW2 was used but near mint. Ebay is my friend. Arcade Card lives up to the name, near arcade perfect ports. Youll get you moneys worth. I find that the Pc Engine over all just did better arcade ports then the other 2 16-bit systems. You can take a Sega Genesis/MegaDrive,slap it with a sega cd/and 32X,and you will still never get the same kind of quality games, and arcade ports as a Pc-Engine set up."Note:Im not saying a TurboGrafx/Duo set-up.Why???Because US release wise we got screwed on games,US wise the Turbo stuff didnt compare with the Genesis libary of titles, and other then not so easy mods, and expensive Kasido adapters, your going to be SOL if you want to play more then 50 good hu-cards.And you dont require a adapter for the Arcade Card with a Pc-Engine setup."Anyway, same goes for the Snes/SFamicom. The BEST titles were on the Pc Engine, shooter wise, action wise, fighting wise,RPG wise.Think about it,would any of you here ever trade your Pc Engine setup for a Snes/Sega Mega/Genesis set-up.Not on your life. You know it,I know it,and every poor sucker who wishes youd trade your NEC stuff to them knows it too.Let them rot I say,or let them eat Magic Engine for that matter.

thanks for the scoop on SF II' and the SNK ports. I'm no fan of the vs. genre, but I'm still interested in hearing about stuff like this (i.e. comparisons of games across platforms).

Thanks for the info on those conversions.
Though now I've heard conflicting reports on the ACD FFS.
Another person told me that it was the worst port next to the sega cd version.
I really must try that game for myself, I really want to see just how close to the arcade original the arcade card was able to bring this game.

Hey my first post...woot woot. I am quite proud of my meager collection of games. I am quite lucky though as I got most of these games when they were originally released and saved myself a bit of money I guess. But of course I do kick myself everytime I remember the fact that I could have got Dracula X new for $80 when it was released....oh the things we do in the name of love...anyway, heres what I got:
Art of Fighting Beyond Shadowgate Bomberman Bonk's Adventure Bonk's Revenge Cosmic Fantasy 2 Dungeon Explorer Dungeon Explorer II Fatal Fury Special Gate of Thunder Kieth Courage in Alpha Zone Legendary Axe Legendary Axe II Lords of Thunder Neutopia Ninja Spirits Order of the Griffon Power Golf Power Golf 2 Golfer Sim Earth Somer Assault Street Fighter II Champion Edition Turrican TV Sports Basketball TV Sports Football World Court Tennis World Heroes 2 Yo Bro' Ys Book I and II Ys III: The Wanderer from Ys
Thats all for now. But, in a couple of weeks I will have more to add....

The Pc Engine port of FF Special was the best port.It was as close as you will get unless you have a NeoGeo setup. The sega cd port cd audio was nasty, the music sounded sapped of life for some reason, and some background stuff was missing.Character animation was missing also.Voice quality wasnt all that hot either. All in all I thought JVC didnt try had enough on this port. The snes port was missing the intro, and was cropped into that stupid small 400-300 screen aspect ratio, like most fighters on snes, the wide screen fighting game system.Only the MK games and Killer Instinct seemed to be full screen on that system. To be honest,I really hated the snes port.I hated the sega cd port too,I liked FFS so much, and still like it just as much this day,and it was a eye sore to see the Sega CD and Snes ports.Such let downs.

I agree, Fatal Fury Special, World Heroes 2 and Art of Fighting I might add, are fantastic ports on the PC Engine. In every repsect, but these games are TOUGH. But, that in and of itself is true to the arcade versions. Snes versions will have to do I guess, for those out there not bless with a system that can handle them.... :D

I have played the ACD port of art of fighting and I will concur that it is the best port outside of the neo version though still a ways off.
AOF sucks anyway IMO.
If anybody's interested, I've been thinking about posting a few screens and notable differences on yahoo or something btwn the the Arcade/NeoGeo, PCE and SNES versions of SF2 CE, AOF, and whenever I get it FFS.

I'm going to post another topic for my FG conversion comparisons since continued discussion here would be totally off-topic.
Staying on topic, here is my small list of pce originals. Well, technically they aren't really mine, I just work at a local game exchange and have unlimited access to them. The system isn't for sale fortunately though all the games are and we hope to have little tournaments for retro games later. Anyway, I digress...
Hu-card: Bonk's Adventure Bonk's Revenge Bonk 3 Devil Crush Splatterhouse Keith Courage Legendary Axe 2 Ninja Spirit SF2' few others I can't think of...
CD: Y's Book I & 2 Fire Pro Wrestling Dracula-X (though probably not for long sadly)

Wonder Boy III in Monster Lair (CDrom2) Far East Of Eden (SuperCDrom2) Wizardry III and iV (SuperCDrom2)
SUPERGRAFX:
Gran Zort Battle Ace
TURBOGRAFX:
Legendary Axe 1 and 2 Vigilante Bonk's Adventure Bonk's Revenge Splatterhouse Dungeon Explorer Ninja Spirit Neutopia Silent Debuggers
Some Turbografx titles i have for some time now, all the others including consoles i collected within 3 months. Not that bad eh? Maybe worth mentioning is that some titles that were released by NEC like Wonder Boy in Monster Land, Fatal Fury, Devil Crush, Out Run,... I do have on other consoles so i'm not looking for them anymore. When i save up some money i think i will focus on some good shooters.
Cheers

I just want to add that the PCE arcade card ports of the SNK fighters are excellent and are the best non-Neo Geo versions, well at least for Fatal Fury Special since it's the only one I have played. Truely magnificent.

It's amazing how you think that you're establishing a pretty good game collection, and then you look at some of those collection pictures on digitpress.com. There are people that have to devote *entire bedrooms or basements* to games. I've got most of my stuff in giant plastic tubs in the closet. I'm running out of space for stuff in my apartment, but my collection is nowhere near that of some folks, and I have hundreds of games for many different systems.

I try not to think about competing with any of the DP gods over there. I'm currently torn as to what to collect next, after my Turbo run. I'm torn between Genesis or Neo Geo. Genesis scares me just due to the sheer volume of sports titles, however Neo Geo will be pretty pricy to complete. Maybe I'll just retire after I finish up the Duo.

- funky PCE accessories!
I bow before the master.
Haha, thanks, but I'm sure David Shadoff smokes me on this. I believe his collection is 100% complete on all games.
One day I'll start working on little snippets on the oddball accessories. Although much of that can be found on the internet now.

About the last one, this is what I have the most fun finding. Stuff like the Virtual Cushion, Duo Monitor, Rom Rom Amp, etc. I even pick up boxed power supplies, boxed controllers, and the like.
Pshh, I bet most of them aren't even sealed. Enjoy your used games!

what's the point having sealed games if you aren't gonna play them? o_O only sealed game in my collection are either I haven't got time to play them yet or they are known stinker and just for the decoration purpose only. :p

How are L-Dis and Gradius 2?

L-Dis is wonderful, but very hard. The sound fx and graphics are wonderful, lots of voice for a shooter, and its very clear. The graphics are nice and colorful, some of the sprites are very large infact, and there is some very fast paced areas that can piss you off,as shooters are supposed to do.Power-ups are plenty found, thank god,and the power-ups are very cool.Gradius 2 is damn near perfect to the arcade as far as I can tell.I cant beat the last stage though,as I get to the 6 legged walker thing and get wasted trying to move back and forth between its legs.

I kinda accidently (hehe) became a collector about the time the PSX and Saturn came out. I found myself playing more PCE instead of my PSX because I wasn't fond of most of the 3D games that had come out.
Anyway, I haven't counted my collection in a while, but at last count, I had somewhere around 300-350 PCE games. I've picked up a number of games since that last count though. There's probably a number of duplicates in there too. Nothing particularly rare IMO... I think.
Right now, I've gotten to the point to buy whatever PCE game I can find. In my area, there's basically only one store that carries PCE games but that one store has a number of branches. They usually just have loose HuCards, but every once in a while they have some gems. I usually don't buy card/cd only but at the minimum there has to be a case and booklet.
Oh, I'd say the one interesting/rare/whatever thing I have in my collection is a Hu7 (or Hu7D... I forget which) . It was the PCE development system. Unfortunately I don't have all the parts to try it out but it seems to work (ie it plays HuCards just fine).

That beast is tough as balls! You only have a few pixels of leeway when scooting beetween the legs.... truly, truly maddening.
As for the original question on Gradius II SCD: Gradius fans will love it. Old-skool shooter fans will love it.
L-Dis: a wonderful cute-em-up, easilly acquired (not expensive on ebay). Old-skool shooter fans will dig this... it fits in well with the other cute-em-ups on the system. TRIVIA: there was a big PC-Engine scene in France, and the importers even provided translated instruction sheets (1 page, double-sided photocopy). I have one of these for L-Dis. If only the U.S. had had a similar import scene!

Thanks, I actually used to have more, but I sold a bunch of games off a few years ago.....which I shortly regretted. Some of them we're semi rare, like Hi Leg Fantasy, the Startling Odessey series, Star Breaker, the US version of Dungeon Explorer 2(don't ask), the US versions of both Exiles(in which I did get another Exile 1), & more that I'm sure I'm forgetting. I think Hi Leg Fantasy is probably the rarest of the games I sold, I'll probably never see that game anywhere again, but that's life, I'll live.
edit-Forgot to mention, all my stuff is original & complete, except I don't have any of the cardboard boxes. There's a few chips that don't have the original cases, but I custom made my own, with graphics from the respective games on the back of cd cases that I put them in. Also, most of my Jp games have the spine cards. As for systems, I have a Turbo w/CD Rom, Turbo Duo, PC Engine GT, 2 Super Grafx, & 1 Super Grafx CD Rom(not the RAU 30, but the actual CD ROM system itself). I also have a couple of 6 button pads, & loads of regular controllers. I also had connections with TTI's last secretary Eun Lopez, so, some games I got for free, & I got lot's of info from her.
Oh, 2 games that are not original, are Motteke Tomago & Space Fantasy Zone.

Have a nice collection is great but I'm wondering how many of you are actually "playing" your games?
I only collect the games I'll play the most.
Title: Post your Pc Engine/Turbografx collection here!!!

I find that when you have so many games for all your systems, you don't get to play them all, all the time, but you do play them, & enjoy them, or atleast I do. There's some I have that I got in bundles on ebay, that I have no interest in playing, but aren't worth enough to even bother trying to sell seperatly on ebay.

I love playing. The best part is playing is free. Collecting is like playing a game with real money.
My collecting is tied to my playing because I'm trying to slowly rebuild my old Turbo collection. I sold Dragon Slayer 10 years ago so playing through it again now is like playing a whole new game.

Well, I went back to the same thrift store today (I go about 2-3 times a week to check for Atari 2600, NES games, etc.) and I found a TG-16 Console with 2 controllers for $8. I also got Alien Crush for $3. I just got home, plugged it in and it worked perfectly...I love that store!

It's the US version of Star Parodia.

Not a huge collection...

Also, I created a back insert for the Gate of Thunder 3-in-1 disc years ago. It's pretty cool and I was extremely careful to match the font, logos and layout of an official TTi CD release. If anyone's interested, I can post it on my website for download.

TRIVIA: there was a big PC-Engine scene in France, and the importers even provided translated instruction sheets (1 page, double-sided photocopy). I have one of these for L-Dis. If only the U.S. had had a similar import scene!
Man that piece of trivia reminded me of when EB Games (then Electronics Botique) used to import Japanese Saturn games.

hey doom! you've been missing some of the BIG NEWS that happened on magicengine boards recently: it turns out that TTi was preparing Star Parodia for a release in NA... and a kind soul has shared the prototype ISO (with the help of another kind soul). check the ME boards :).

Thanks steve! I don't hang out over at magic engine at all, because i haven't taken the time to fully understand what it offers or how to access it. But I'll register over there soon! this prototype is available? sweet! on another note,i know i have blown sending you those mags, but I WILL make good eventually...Thanks for being patient!

Well, you have about 70 more games then I.......for now heh heh. Quite a few of the games you have, that I don't, I used to have, & sold, & totally regret, so now I sell no games, for any of my systems, making me creep up on a grand total of 1900 games so far, though my collecting has slowed down in the last few years, I'll eventually hit over 2000, but, it maybe be a few years if ever.

That is a lot! What would you say is your rarest of PCE or any system? Sorry if this has already been discussed I'm too lazy to read the rest of the thread.

Hmm, rarest. Well, ofcoarse, rare doesn't always mean expensive, some you just rarely see anywhere: PCE/Turbo Alzadik Anearth Fantasy Stories(regular version) Ane-San Basted Bonanza Bros. Beyond Shadowgate Chiki Chiki Boys Cosmic Fantasy 4 Chapter 2 Dedenoden Double Dragon 2 Dynastic Hero(US) Dynasty Wars Faceball Fighting Run Flash Hiders Fray CD Xak Gaiden Gain Ground SX God Panic Godzilla(US) Gotzendeiner Image Fight 2 Kabuki Clash Kiaiden 00 Kaze Kiri L-Dis Legend of Xanadu 2 Lemmings Liquid Kids Mad Stalker(or I think it's still rare) Makai Prince Dorabochan Metamor Jupiter Moonlight Lady Neo Metal Fantasy Neo Nectaris Nexzr Ninja Gaiden Obochama Kun Photograph Boy Popful Mail(though I've seen it alot more on ebay lately) Pop n' Magic Psychic Storm Rainbow Islands Rally Championship Rayxanber 2 Rayxanber 3 the 2 River City Ransom games River Fishing King(I'm pretty sure that's the name, it's a fishing rpg) R-Type Complete Ruin Sapphire(fake?) Shinobi Sorcerian the 2 Spriggan's Star Parodia Steam Hearts Super Air Zonk the 2 Super Big Brother games Vasteel(US) Vasteel 2 Zero Wing
NES Well, the only one I could say is truly rare, is Mystery of Convoy(Transormers)
Gamate, all 5 of my games are rare, since the system is rare
NGPC maybe Rockman is rare, the rest aren't
Lynx Alien vs. Predator Battlezone 2000 Checkard Flag Cyber Virus Desert Strike Ponx Rampage Remnant Planet Wars 3D Road Riot 4WD Xenophobe

Saturn Bubble Symphony Cotton 2 Don Pachi Konami Antiques MSX Legend of Heroes 1 & 2 Legend of Heroes 3 Magical School Lunar all 3 of the Parodius games Radiant Silvergun Saturn Bomberman Sonic Wings Special Soukyugurentai Willy Wombat
PS1/2 Adventures of Lomax Alundra Assault Rigs Beast Wars(atleast, it used to be) I think all 3 Bomberman games are hard to find Buster Bros. Collection .Hack Mutation & Quarentine Dragon Warrior 7 Eihander I think all the Gradius games now are Guardian's Crusade Herc's Adventures Iron Soldier 3 the 2 Jumping Flash games(still haven't found the 3rd jp release) Klonoa 2 the 2 original Lunar packs in mint condition Metal Slug X Mr. Mosquito Norse by Norsewest PC Genjin Philosoma Raiden Project Raycrisis Raystorm Rockman X3 R-type Delta R-Types Saga Frontier 2 Shipwreckers the first 2 Suikodens both Tales of Destiny Thousand Arms Threads of Fate Thunder Force 5 3 Stoodges(never see that game anywhere) Tobal 2 both Vandal Hearts first 2 Wild Arms Xevious Ys Eternal Story
PC Ys Complete Works Ys Eternal 1 & 2 Complete
DC the 2 Giga Wings Kao the Kangaroo Last Blade 2 Mars Matrix Shen Mue 2(in english) Spiderman SW Jedi Power Battles

Now, some of these might not be rare anymore, or ever were, I'm basing most of this off of how expensive &/or how hard they were to find.
Title: my duo impressions.
Post by: NeoFreak on July 21, 2005, 01:50:32 AM
I finally got myself a TurboDuo yesterday. I bought it off of a friend, who had picked the system up from a collector on ebay about 6 months earlier. They entire system bundle was opened, but I dont think it had ever been played. [ I'm talking original baggies and twist ties for controller, av, and power cord / manual, inserts, registration info, even Issue #3 of Turbo Force] I just love the design of the system so much, and its smaller than I expected it to be. It's just one hell of a sexy peace of hardware.
I got all the bundle games complete: Gate of Thunder, Bonk's Adventure, Bonk's Revenge, Y's Books I& II, and in addition Rondo of Blood.
I played the 3-1 disc for a bit yesterday; it was good to play all those games again. Once I get 100% on Rondo, I'll move on to Y's which I have never played. I'm damn pumped, I think it's a good start for my collection.

I was excited when I first got my Turbo Duo over a year ago, but I didn't get the original pack in stuff like when they first came out, like you seemed to have gotten ;) . I agree with you about the Turbo Duo design; it's certainly a sex machine! I can't wait for my PCE+CDROM2 which is coming soon now, because it's even sexier!

yeah, I got lucky.
I do really love the PCE+CD2 with that sick interface unit. They look really good side by side like that.

TTi gave me my Duo for Christmas the year that it came out :D I ended up giving my old Turbo+CD+System 2 Card to my best friend. A bunch of the beta CD's that they would send didn't like the old system, and at the time (I was a working stiff at an EB) I didn't have the cash for a new Duo. They didn't even tell me that it was coming, so it was a nice surprise.

Yes I am STRONGLY against the apostrophe. I try to control myself from correcting people all the time. You know the funny thing is on the Dawn of Ys CD, it does indeed have an apostrophe. Strange, eh?

Nope, it was just shipped a couple days ago (we were trying to work out extra deals). I am hoping to expect it in a week or so. I also ordered a Bomberman '94 about a week ago, and I recently ordered an avenue 6 pad with loose Street Fighter II' HuCard (my auction came with an avenue 6 pad, so I'll have two for SFII' ). I'm looking to find an original, white, PC Engine controller now so I can have five players finally hooked up to a tap.

Y's Books I& II,
When your done with Y's I&II try III next and IV.
Y's III weak on graphics compared to the, SNES version but great on music :D
Y's IV the dawn of Y's serise returns to, it's roots plus there is a fan translation of it also 8)

I kind of like the Turbo version of Ys III's graphics more than the Genesis and SNES versions, except for the poor parralax. It looks cleaner and more colorful to me.

CD+G was also part of the Turbo Grafx 16 propaganda back in the day. Valis III CD+G has some arranged Valis sountrack that can only be found in this version mixed with Valis graphics.
Valis III CD+G
Catalogue Number TONS-1001 Publisher Toshiba-EMI Composition Minoru Yuasa, Michiko Naruke & Taakaharu Umezu First Printing April 12, 1991 Price ¥2800

I know what CD+Gs are (I really want to try one!), but I had no idea that Valis III had it's own special CD+G! That's so badass, I would love to have that myself. I am assuming it's rare and expensive though.

Oh crap, this is too awesome. Is there a more common, non CD+G version of this soundtrack?
More importantly, were there any other CD+G PCE soundtracks? My hunch is that there were... although there might have been limited press runs of the CD+G versions...
Any info would be greatly apprciated!!!!

I am not aware of another version of this soundtrack. To my knowledge, they did not release any other PC Engine related CD+Gs.

bwt, Dead Moon kicks ass. better than Soldier Blade IMO. It's my favorite turbochip shooter so far (haven't played areo blasters yet). i've always enjoyed horizontal shooters more than vertical ones and the graphics are superb.

Yeah, I was searching for Magical Chase and snagged the last one from Traders 2. They probably put out another "last copy" soon after I left.
Probably paid $600-$700 for all that. Although a good chunk of change, the price per game is reasonable. Of course Magical Chase messed up the average. :p
Oh, this list from my trip to Tokyo in 2004 is probably more interesting. Don't even ask how much this all cost!

Some time ago I added The Kung Fu, Tenchi Muyo, and the second Ranma 1/2 game to my collection, and just this morning I got Urusei Yatsura: Stay With You and Patlabor: Chapter of Griffon (finally! I'm a huge Patlabor freak -- can't wait to play the game!) from ebay.
Incidentally, two games which are conspicuously absent from my collection are Devil's Crush and Blazing Lazers (or a Gunhed)...ya know, in case anybody has some extras lying around they wanna part with for a reasonable price (US or JP versions OK for either)...ahem. ;P

Yeah, too bad we didn't know about each other before because it would have been fun to hang out with other PCE fans.
Now that I know other people on this board go to TGS, perhaps we can all meet up next year... and raid Akihabara together. :)

Here is a link to my video game collection, just click to go straight to the NEC section:

Just to let you know, Dragon Slayer isn't a action RPG, like Ys, Secret of Mana, Crystalis, etc... but a traditional turn-based RPG like Dragon Warrior, Final Fantasy, and Cosmic Fantasy. Personally, I absolutely love the game and if you are a fan of hilarious, cheesy bad voice acting, you'll really love it! :D

Man, last time I checked, Dragon Slayer would go for about $40-50, now it's going to $50-60!? Prices are really getting out of hand these days, I remember even just a few years ago when Dragon Slayer would be around $30; the price seems to have about doubled since! I'm really glad I got Dragon Slayer for a REALLY good deal a year or two ago (Exile, Dragon Slayer, and Ys IV bundle complete all for only $60! THANK YOU, PAUL RAMIREZ!).

Yeah it's getting out of hand for.. some TG16 games.
Still i can't.. blame any one to much bad timing on my part.
Heck i still feel, i should have gotten back into it years ago. I could have save some money then :(
Btw i notice you mention, Exile that one is still cheap.. just that part two is still pricey these days.

Yeah, but PC Engine prices have been plummeting for a awhile, so Turbo/PCE gamers are making out better than ever over Turbo/PCE collectors.
And some of the pricer Turbo gems are easing off now with the majority(includes nearly every quality title) of the "commons" dirt cheap. Especially if you don't care if a game is completely complete or absolutely mint.
Even the PC-FX, Supergrafx & Laseractive are finally affordable(shipping and all). :D

Any differences in Exile 1 from the Genesis version?
I straight up dominated the Genesis version, I can 1cc it.
The average time for beating it is only 2 hours. That's the shortest RPG I've beaten alongside Illusion of Gaia for SNES.
For those who don't know:
1cc - One coin clear, beating a game in one sitting without dying.

You folks are going to cry when you hear this: a fellow turbo fan (I only know him via emails over the years), snatched up a U.S. Dynastic Hero for $30 not too long ago. IT WAS ON EBAY! I saw the auction. A mom was selling her son's old stuff, or something like that. She listed a bunch of games -- all of them for $30. No Magical Chases (I checked), but Dynastic Hero, DAMN!
Anyway, the game was legit, and in very good shape. I told him I was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO JEALOUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUS. He has a Black Berry and was able to "Buy it now" as soon as he got an email from ebay.
The chances of this happening again? Hmmmm, not in my lifetime.

I wanted to post in the other thread about how you got into turbo and decided to post here instead, cause I've got all the games here.
Back when the TG-16 came out a friend of mine bought one. He even bought the CD unit when there were just 4 games for it, and he got all of them (Fighting Street, Monster Lair, Last Alert, and Ys I&II). I played his TG16 all the time, and we used to play a lot of 5 player moto roader. Eventually he wanted sports games and got a Genesis to play Madden and others and sold off all his turbo collection (which was formidable!).
Somewhere aroung 1991 when the TG16 was being blown out at $50 new and lots of turbo stuff was available at used stores for dirt cheap, I got one. Originally, I got it for multiplayer games like Moto Roader and for Blazing Lazers and the Crushes. However, I loaded up on the cheap games and got some new ones as well. When the Duo came out I bought it, largely because I loved the Bonk games already and didn't have them, and bought more games, too! I never really got into video games enough to be that interested in other systems. In '93 I got a SNES to play John Madden football, and for Super Bomberman since my second TurboTap died on me just like the first one. I have like 6 games for the SNES, including a couple Shmups I just got because they are well regarded.
Here's my collection today, some of which is going to go on the chopping block because there are games that either suck or don't interest me that I'll never play again. All games are US releases, I never bought an import, though I want Spriggan.
I love Shmups.
Shmups: Psychosis Raiden Deep Blue Gate of Thunder 4-in-1 Lords of Thunder Super Star Soldier Space Harrier Fantasy Zone Sidearms Ordyne Sinistron Cyber-Core Monster Lair Veigues Tactical Gladiator Cotton Aero Blasters R-Type Blazing Lazers Galaga 90 Air Zonk Soldier Blade Dead Moon
All Others: Ninja Spirit Bonk 3 New Adventure Island Bomberman 93 Buster Brothers JJ and Jeff Parasol Stars Last Alert John Madden Duo CD Football Prince Of Persia Final Lap Twin Andre Panza Kickboxing Keith Courage in Alpha Zones Alien Crush Fighting Street Moto Roader Implode Devil's Crush Legendary Axe II Riot Zone Shadow Of The Beast Ys Books I and II Takin' It To The Hoop World Class Baseball TV Sports Football Time Cruise
Hardware Base TG-16 Turbo Duo Duo controller adapter Turbo Tap Five Turbo pads, one with extension cable Freedom 16 (haven't tried it since I detemined that it sucks 5 minutes after trying it - maybe it's worth another look)
There are very few games that I want for the system, Spriggan, Battle Royale, I remember that being incredibly fun in multiplayer.

I've never cared much for shrinkwrapped games. Any game I acquire is opened, haha.
That Dynastic Hero I jsut picked up was still shrinkwrapped. it didn't appear to be a home-shrink job, and considering the state of the contents (Not a blemish on the disc, manual, or case) it may have been the original shrink. Still, I can't be sure.
Doesn't matter much though, as it felt GOOD to open that game, and then test it on the Turbo Duo, ahha. I even took a few pics of myself ripping off the shrinkwrap.
pcenginefx, if you need some help with the shrinkwrap on any of those titles, let me know! It's probably warping the Magical Chase box! GOTTA STOP THE WARPING!!! RELEASE IT FROM THE PLASTIC CAGE!
Also, what price did you pay for that Magical Chase?
And, sealed Mgical Chase isn't too unheard of. Saw one on ebay about a year ago. And about 2 years ago someone told me they had some Magical Chase games (Not bullshti), but they were $500.00 a piece. That was 2005, not sure if there are anymore of those around or if he found buyers for them all.

pcenginefx, if you need some help with the shrinkwrap on any of those titles, let me know!
On the other hand, sealed Bonk 3 Hucard.... I haven't seen or heard of any of those lately.
Yes, the warping! Funny that you mentioned that. The front of the Magical Chase box is slightly warping inward (not too bad) but the back is like a wave. I wonder if removing the shrinkwrap will help it?.........hmmm.
As far as the price... well, believe it or not all of the games were gifts. :-"
The Raiden box is still in perfect shape inside its plastic cage....but the box is HEAVY! Must be the 6-megabit HuCard :P

pcenginefx,
I had a feeling they may be gifts. Pretty cool gifts, I sure wouldn't mind Magical Chase as a gift, hah.
Yeah, that Raiden box has the plastic case. Adds extra "oompf" to the package.
Yeah, the warping.... Something with the TTI Hu-Cards. I'm not sure if the boxes warp over the years (Ones with shrinkwrap on them, open at the top or totally sealed) is due to the shrinkwrap, the lack of a case (plastic tray), or a combination of the two. The shrinkwrap on a TTI game and an earlier game is a different quality.
Pretty much all of my TTI boxes I have I've ended up taking all the shrinkwrap off. Most games I open them at the top with a finger nail or blade, and leave most of the shrinkwrap intact. However, the TTI wrap is a bit more "fragile", less stretchy, and if it is slowly crumpling a box, I figure I might as well remove it.
I may post a pic or 2 here soon. I snapped one yesterday, sometime soon I will resize it...

The Duo-R is a recent addition. My Turbo Duo has never gave me any issues, however I'd rather have a cheaper (in price) piece of hardware for the CD games, and give my Turbo Duo more vacation. The Duo-R is pretty nice, feels solid, seems superior to the regular Turbo Duo/PC Engine Duo.
I try to juggle most of these items on this one shelf. I'd have only one NEC system wired up if the Duo-R was modded, so far I've found someone willing to install a region switch, however they won't do the S-Video. I'd rather have both mods done at once, when that happens the TG will be placed in a rental case for transport, which happens from time to time. For now, the 2 stack pretty well since the TG-16 has a Turbo Booster attached.
The other items in the pic:
- The Genesis fits in there nicely. It's a good fit. I may attempt to squeeze a JVC X'Eye in there... I have a Sega CD for the Genesis, however I don't use the Sega CD often, so it sits in storage. Plus it uses two power supplies (gen and CD), X'Eye and such only use 1. Space is an issue since I want to keep this type of stuff confined to a single shelf.
- The other item in the back is the "Gameboy Cube", since those are the only games it is there for.
a quite funny beat'n walk, altough a little bit monotone and repetitive. but very special on its own. can recommend it so far :)
After seeing those tokkofuku pics, I gotta try it out. Being a motorcyclist and all, I always got a kick out the bosozoku culture in Japan (Not that I condone it - I just find it humorous). Plus, I love beat 'em ups!

I agree, although I do find myself taking chances on some games as they are so cheap. It is possible to amass a decent sized collection (with a few stinkers) for little money.

Kool. Tell me about them! Where were they manufactured, were they made well, are they hard to find, etc. etc.
I'd love to get one of those pads, but I fear they command a high price.

Post by: shubibiman on May 05, 2007, 09:31:45 PM
Well, as far as I can remember, they were made in France. They were pretty cheap because Sodipeng was a rather small company so they couldn't afford to produce top class controllers. A few years ago, it was easy to find bargained sodipads in french shops for a very decent price. It's not something rare nor very looked for. I know a bunch of guies who bought 20 at a time so maybe they still have some to sell, if you wish.

Nice to know there others that share my view on that.
Dunno why it puzzle me to see, TG16/PCE collectors who are obsessed with getting every game made for the system.
Even if the title is crappy they must have it at all cost.
I never see the point of having those titles either if there gonna collect dust.
While i'm sure i won't reach 100+ befor i'm done at least, i know i've collected the games that i'll be playing in the future still.
Just a while ago i made some cut backs for my saturn collection.
I saw some games i got for the collection that i didn't even bother to play.
Afther that i sold them.

I would certainly be interested in a pad, especially a boxed one... but even a loose pad would be neat. It would be a novelty item for me :).

L-Dis is a pretty decent horizontal shooter. Crisp graphics, but nothing that knocks your socks off. If you have an affinity for the PCE and Turbo, it's a very available and affordable title. If your only into the Turbo/PCE for the retro experience, you may not appreciate it much.
With out a SOLDIER game, you're just a fan... :D

Here's my collection. Most of the CD games (including Sapphire) have their spine cards. I also like to keep my games in the nice resealable bags that most stores in Japan use, which is why there are price tags and labels on about half of them.

That should be most of them. That's everything in the cabinet next to me plus a few from memory that are in the other room. There might be a few more. I have multiple copies of some games, and still others I own in both US and JP formats (for play on the handheld). All games are complete and original unless noted otherwise. SuperGrafx games include cardboard box/sleeve. I guess I won't include my PC-FX stuff since that's not specified in the thread heading... Oh, and last but not least:
Super HuCard (CD-R) some demo CD-R's, and a SuperGrafx demo or two

Here's a link to my PC Engine collection. I got mine stolen several years ago and I've had to start over from scratch but it's getting there. Below is a list of what I have so far, and you can visit the page to see some pics of my gear.

Mine is for, backup use of corse in case some thing happens to my Duo-R.
That is a shame your original collection was stolen.
As "NinjaSpirit mention" that is odd most of time it's the console that's current that get's stolen.
Hmm maybe the crook knew the value of a.... TG16/PCE becuse of value it go's for on ebay and at other sites.

Yay, I finally have something I can post in this thread. :D
First off, my beloved beastie, which I proudly repaired less than a week ago: (http://www.nodtveidt.net/my-machine.jpg) Just a region-modded TG16 deck with a TG-CD setup and an Arcade Card Pro.
Now, the softs... (http://www.nodtveidt.net/my-collection.jpg) These are all the legitimate games I own. Note the three CDRs in the pic...the first is a prototype of Mysterious Song, the second is a game I'm working on for my independent adult label, and the third is a prototype of our secret project...I've intentionally blurred out the name just to be annoying. :D There is presently no burned prototype of Neutopia III. Once these games are released, I wonder how much people would be willing to pay to own these unique prototype discs... ;)

I have a small collection. Its still growing. (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v238/jetbue7/Pictures00aa2.jpg) the 2 duos that use to cause me so much headaches (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v238/jetbue7/Pictures00bb8.jpg) one tg-16 hard modded the other untouched

2 Duos! One for modding, or as a spare?
What was modded ont eh TG-16?
Nice selection there, I don't see that 6 button Hori pad much.
Reminds me, I'd very much enjoy locating a Hori 6 button PC Engine Stick, or the 6 Button Stick by Innovation. They don't turn up for sale often.
What's with all the white plastic (trash bags?) on the table?

hahaha,i had written a long post at first explaing every detail but thought to myself no one wants to know the history of every item. But the duo on the left is my original and second the dumpster find from a few years ago. The tg-16 in the cd unit is modded to jap region so i can use the arcade card in it. If i find a switch il install it. The bags are there to add a light background cause my room is very dark and the camera very cheap. Thats with the sun coming inside the window and still the pictures are dark.

DUDE! You have to give us the dimensions of the TG-CD box. I know it's huge, but I didn't keep mine for long. Take some more photos of the box, if you can, to show the different sides and stuff. THANK YOU. :)

Don't they realize they're loading the CD upside-down?!?
nat, the picture is mtimeless that way. If we saw what they were actually loading, it would be horribly dated (e.g. an Information Society album... or Fighting Street, either way, it just wouldn't stand the test of time).
TG-CD is timeless, of course. :)

I'm surprised i even held on to the box its so big. Cause when i was at walmart a few years ago and this was in the clearance bin i thought to myself if i rip up the box real good i might get a discount.....Im kidding  I took pictures but my cam isn't the best around.
Dimensions are 17 1/2 inches width, 23 1/2 inches height,10 1/4 inch length
I only have a TG-16 with six games. I’ve had it for a while now and I finally want to buy some more games for it. Possibly buy a Turbo Duo.
Games Bonks Adventure Splatter House Final Lap Twin Neutopia Dungeon Explorer Keith Courage
It’s not much, but I hope to get some more soon. :)
That's a great start! :)

The majority of these are in there jewel cases and with instructions. I just have not sorted through that list as of yet because I don't care if the PC Engine cards have jewel cases and what not. I placed an order for over 50 other ones. Lots of different sports stuff... but that's okay. I like the variety of the HU Cards and I like to play different versions of some of the baseball games and strange stuff like Horse Racing. LOL

Well, I figured that I'd go ahead and post my (current) TurboGrafx-16 collection. Since I'm working on growing it, this list may not be accurate in a week or two, but here's what it is for now.
TurboGrafx-16 HuCards US-Released Games List 1-94/96
RB=Retail Box / JC=Jewel Case / IM=Instruction Manual / HC=HuCard / N/A=Not Available / √=Have
# RB JC IM HC 76-94 76 Super Star Soldier 77 √ √ √ Super Volleyball 78 √ √ √ Takin' It to the Hoop 79 √ √ √ Tale Spin 80 √ Tiger Road 81 N/A Time Cruise 82 √ √ √ Timeball 83 √ √ √ Tricky Kick 84 √ √ √ Turrican 85 √ √ √ TV Sports Basketball 86 √ √ √ √ TV Sports Football 87 √ √ √ TV Sports Hockey 88 √ √ √ Veigues Tactical Gladiator 89 √ √ √ Victory Run 90 √ √ √ Vigilante 91 √ √ √ World Class Baseball 92 World Court Tennis 93 N/A World Sports Competition 94 √ √ √ Yo Bro 95 --Turbografx CD System Card ver. 2.0-- 96 --Super System Card ver. 3.0-- √ √ Street Fighter II (PC–Engine) √ U.S. TurboGrafx-16 console w/cords √ Turbo Tap multi-player adapter √ 5 Turbo Pad controllers
RB=Retail Box / JC=Jewel Case / IM=Instruction Manual / HC=HuCard / N/A=Not Available / √=Have
I am working on acquiring a minimum of HuCard, Instruction Manual, and Jewel Case, but having the cardboard Retail Box is a bonus if I can get it as well. I currently have none of the TurboGrafx CD games yet and no equipment to play said games, so I'm looking into getting a Japanese Duo-R to be able to play Japanese HuCards and all of the CD games as well, since I also don't have an adapter to be able to play Japanese HuCard games on my U.S. TurboGrafx-16.
Any thoughts on which games I should try to acquire next would be appreciated.

That's the smart way to go!

Order of the Griffon - my favorite RPG on the TG/PCE. 3/4 view overworld and combat screens, first-person towns and dungeons. Lots of fun and flexibility in the turn-based combat system. Good if you like the Ultima, Westwood, or SSI games. Dead Moon - awesome underrated shooter with lots of parallax and not too expensive. Bomberman '94 (once you get a Duo-R) - better and cheaper than U.S. '93.
If you don't a Space Harrier port yet, the TG version is a good one.

This sounds promising! I just picked up this game recently but haven't had a chance to play it yet. Now I'm gonna have to move it to the top of the list
