I downloaded my first two WiiWare games (Alien Crush Returns and Megaman 9) and the GC controller won't register with either one. I know the controller is fine (it's a Wavebird and I've been using it for Cube games) but I can't get it to work with these two. Help!
Thanks!

I think some of the games on the Wii can only be played with specific controllers. I purchased the Star Wars game 'Bounty Hunter' (Game Cube) to play on my Wii with the classic controller but it won't work unless you plug in a Game Cube controller. Perhaps the Wii ware games require the wii remote or the classic controller and won't work otherwise. I don't know for sure...that's just my theory.

Thanks for the reply.
Before posting I did some searching around and found lots of articles saying 'Megaman 9 to support Gamecube controller'. Now I'm reading about other people bitching because they couldn't get it working, so I guess it's not compatible.
I'm pretty bummed. I hate using the Wii-mote sideways. I've been using the Wavebird for nearly everything else and was hoping to not be forced to pick up a Classic controller.
As far as your Bounty Hunter situation...once you boot up a GC disc, only a GC controller will work. The Wii-side of the hardware seems to shut down completely once you boot into GC mode, and you'll notice you can't even power off the Wii with the Wii-mote at that point. Kinda lame, but so it goes.

yeah, the GC controller is better than the Classic controller in most ways. it's too bad they aren't interchangeable.

GC's controller was ass, you're better off using the classic controller.
Its like a SNES controller with dual analogs nicely placed on each side.

not in my experience.

Not quite. it's much larger (to accomodate the analog sticks) and the sticks are too far away from the edges to be comfortably used. it's allright for games where you only use the D-pad, but I avoid it like the plague in games that require the analog stick. (such as SSBB.) Also, the Z buttons are in an awful place.

I ended up picking up a Classic controller last night. Yes, I'm very impulsive sometimes.
Anyway, I LIKED the Wavebird and was hoping I would be able to use it instead of the Classic. But apparently, many Wiiware games weren't designed to work with it, forcing you to either buy the Classic, or (if it's an option) using the Wii-mote sideways.
Anyway, I'm now able to rock MM9 with the Classic controller. I wish I could change the button mapping around (can't change much in MM9, not sure about other games yet) but it's working for me so I can't complain too much.

Except the analogs are slippery under your thumbs and holding it isnt as comfortable as the SNES controller.

You really can't beat the SFC Classic controller. However, there are alot of nice options than the standard Classic Controller. If you want a controller specific for pre 64 gaming, I would pickup any of these (well maybe not the white/pink one):

If you need Analog sticks then this is your best bet (don't get the Nintendo one):

It is completely wireless from the Wiimote via a wireless dongle!

I actually like white white/pink one!
Am I the only one who doesn't like SNES controllers, by the way? They're too flat for it's shape (I like the flatness in the NES controller) and the d-pad isn't so comfortable for me.

The DPad is only comfortable if you have boney, lanky fingers. from what I've gathered from my personal use (boney lankey) to my friends (not boney lankey)
I like the Genesis DPad more than anything. They should release a Genesis Classic controller.
