Sega-16: Kaneko released games on both the Genesis and the TurboGrafx-16 (Air Buster, for example). Did the company always plan to bring all its games to both consoles?
Ellen Fuog: There were initial plans to release Bonk (arcade version) on the TurboGrafx, never on the Genesis platform. If my memory is correct, at the time, the license was only available to us on the one platform. Kaneko USA published on the two major platforms of the time - namely, Nintendo & Sega.
I don't think Kaneko had much (if anything) to do with the North American TG-16 AeroBlasters, but it is interesting to hear that they might have considered (if only for a fleeting moment) of porting Arcade Bonk to a console.
Of course, this woman is from the U.S. marketing dept. of Kaneko.... which means that the real decision to make a port would have been made in Japan...
And then we have to ask ourselves: would people want a TG-16 port of the arcade game?

I want a virtual console release of the arcade game- probably won't happen though eh?

Interesting but short interview. Thanks for the link.

I know I would. I think it looks pretty darn fun, especially with a two player simultaneous mode.

I think if the arcade Bonk was on TG16, it would get a bad rep and be regarded as the black sheep of the series. Not that I think it's a bad game or wouldn't want to see it on the Turbo anyways, of course :) .

Indeed, Keranu. It's quite a bit different from the other three games, less linear, and looks much more difficult (all the better to eat quarters), so that might turn some folks off.

I can't even imagine a "hard" Bonk game.

I don't care about no port of it, I just want the real board :D
Fun game, I have known about it for a few years now. If I recall it's just a bunch of mini games.
Kaneko US sucked anyway. We got all of their crap titles over here, and the majority were edited.

Right on quoth, I was actually talking about this with a friend the other day. I would love to get the original arcade pcb if the price were right.

Obviously, I would have loved a port of this game :)
I've never played it, but I'm sure that Hudson / NEC / Kaneko would have provided console gamers with difficulty settings and introduced a new "Pussyfooter" mode since the arcade version was definitely hoping to munch a few quarters.
One site mentions "This game had a ticket payout mechanism meaning you could also win cheesy prizes." (arcadehistory.com)
Not sure if this has been verified, though.
IMPORTANT: Does anyone have the tunes for this game in mp3 format?

Why do you ask if just "anyone" has the music in MP3 form  I have it, though, I can't take credit for making it, I got it off of the Final Fantasy Shrine forums. There are sfx with it, I wish there was a way to straight rip the music, but, this'll have to do for now.

Nuts has never heard of this game? To be fair though I don't think it had a very wide release, at all. If it did it must not have been too popular.
But yes the game is very fun if not very cheap and frustrating at points. Even on easy the enemies are swarming you nonstop. Takes quite a bit of practice to get good at and I don't want to even think about 1cc it. I beat it on mame a couple of nights ago, of course not without a crap load of virtual quarters .
BTW the 3 names it goes by are B.C. Kid, Bonk's Adventure, and Kyukyoku!! PC Genjin and the board has four or so different region settings on board via dip switches. I am guessing B.C. Kid for Europe, Bonk's Adventure for US and Kyukyoku!! PC Genjin for Japan.
