Ok, it is a childhood memory.
I played this game when final fight was just released but the game seemed a bit older.
The game was western style and at the first level (or one of the first levels) you were on a horse trying to catch up a train.
Once on the roof of the train you had to jump wagons killing bad guys in the process.
I think there was also hand to hand combat involved on the train.
Didn't get much further then that i'm afraid.
Any suggestions what this game is called??

Sounds an awful lot like Sunset Riders to me:

I know Sunset Riders, to be sure i watched a video of the early missions on youtube.
It's not that game.
I think the game i played at the time might be a bit older (at least graphical wise) and is a bit slower paced.
The first mission is about catching up with a train on a horse, getting on the train on the roof and then waste of the bad guys one by one.

How 'bout Express Raider? It kinda fits your description.

That's gotta be it. It has a few different titles!
Let us know! I'm a fan of Westerns!!
Edit: Another title you may have seen for this game is Western Express.

When I started reading the description, I also knew the game, but not the title. I had good fun with this one. Thanks for the little nostalgia trip. :D

Haha no wonder why, it was 2 years before my time. In any case it looks pretty cool. Reminds me of old dos games what with the 8 color looking graphics.

As kids we used to play Express Raider at the local bowling alley every Saturday after league games. It'll always be one of my favorite arcades because of the memories. What's better than playing as the villain in a western robbing people and hijacking entire trains? 8) I bought the pcb and a couple marquees, but I've never gotten it working (non-jamma).

Don't they make Data East classic standard to Jamma adapters?
