What is the best (PAL) CRT screen available for the best possible arcade-like picture for consoles for a not to steep price??
RGB scart connection is a must, s-video, composite and component if possible.
Or does anyone recommend lcd over crt for older consoles??
What type of TV??
-
what size do you want?
If you arent goin huge, lol, try a Commodore 1084S monitor. the uk ones have scart and they work great. :)
usually sorta (<100$) cheap.
if you want a big TV, Philips probably... but price wise I cant say since i dont shop in PAL land
-
How big are they??
Think i'm going for at least 21".
Don't think the commodore is big but if they are really good i might consider.
-
theyre like 13"
not exactly big.
if youre going for 21+ Id say find a deal on a good Philips

I still got a crt tv downstairs in my living room its 9 years old and still going. 36" Panasonic with scart, s-video and composite connections.

Only 4:3 screens.
I had a 100hz panasonic but i found it had a very unnatural picture with games.
Edges in your typical psone game (or other early 3D games) were very highlighted and resulted looking ugly overall.
I also had issues with RGB scart, there were horizontal lines one the screen which i didn't have with other TV's in RGB.
What about samsung, lg, toshiba, sony,... ??
From my experience i had issues with expensive TV's.
Go to cheap with some unknown brands and i found issues to when i switched to rgb, the image softened when it supposed to be better.

my TV I paly everything on is a like 32" sanyo w/ component.
I dont have an HD tv or SCART since im in USA... >_>
-
well the old sony tv's aren't bad I given my old 21" away to nieces. but even with widescreen CRTs you can adjust the picture to 4:3 or zoom in anyway.

Pre-Dreamcast era games look soooo much better on SDTVs than on any HDTV I've ever seen due to HDTV's inability to handle and display 240p properly.

I have a 52" Samsung TOC LCD Series 6 Flat Panel! I shopped around and researched alot before I bought this one since I paid cash for it....Neway In my opinion this tv (most samsungs I have seen) or the Sharp Aquos (features a gaming engine in the tv on some models), Sony makes a descent one!
If I get a chance I'll post a pic of a game from my DUO! or you can check out the link on my sale thread! Go HERE!

Games lose something when they dont have that "TV mode" effect.

Damn straight. SDTVs are the way to go if you want the true classic gaming experience. Besides, how the hell can you play light gun games on HDTVs anyway?

That's the one good thing that the Wii is for. :P

PS3's Time Crisis 4 allows light gun on an HDTV! Infact I think it works better than the old lightguns! Im sure the technology is not hard to manipulate and Im sure it will eventually be seen for the older games too!

Well I dont know the technical terms for it and all but yes it is very similar to the wii. Infact I my opinion it is far more superior than the Wii! Its to bad you can use it for older light gun games... ](*,)

I don't like hanging IR transmitters all over my TV, though. And the ones TC4 comes with are FUGLY!

This may be true in some cases but they actually look good on my TV....I have the samsung 52" Touch of Color (red around the outside bezel) with a black piano gloss finish! The black case and red lights kind of look good sitting up on top of my tv. I also have the wires so they are not hanging all over the place...all you see it the transmitters!

I put clear stickers with anime chicks on them. They still work.
It does suck you cant use the PS3 gun for PS1 games. Definitely made me angry.
...and, I do think it works better than the Wii alot of the time.
note: you can use the wii sensor bar for the PS3 lightgun. It just requires you to have your wii on at the same time, lol
...you can also use two hot candles. or anything hot.
