Title: Ebayer trying to auction off PC Engine Super System Card 3.0 as U.S. version!
Post by: Mathius on April 27, 2009, 06:11:13 AM
Heads up guys! I was shopping for a Super System Card 3.0 and I came across this guy auctioning a PC Engine Super System Card as a Turbografx CD system card. I studied the pictures closely and sure enough its the Japanese version. Here's the link

http://cgi.ebay.com/Turbo-Grafx-16-CD-DUO-Super-System-Card-3-0-RARE_W0QQitemZ140316682467QQcmdZViewItemQQptZVideo_Games_Accessories?hash=item140316682467&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318|301%3A1|293%3A1|294%3A50

I emailed him about it and this is what he wrote back.

"I have tested the card on my Turbo Grafx CD and it played both Y's Book I & II (U.S. version) and Dracula X Rondo of Blood (Japanese only release) with no problems. Essentially, the System 3 card turns a Turbo CD into a Turbo Duo with no regional lockouts that I know of that exist with the Super CD Rom 2 system."

I don't know. I am kind of new here. What do you guys think.

He's correct that the games are region free, but the system cards are just like all the other HuCards and require a converter or region mod. to work on a US system.

NOTE: Very few Super CD titles a defective Super System Card check and will only work with a Japanese Super System Card (or ACD Pro).

I think the titles are Bonanza Brothers and some demo discs.

Exactly, he's not warning potential bidders that you need a converter to use the card. He's acting like you just insert the card and play! Am I overreacting on this one?

Nope.  Whoever buys this card is going to be sorely disappointed, assuming he (or she) is unaware of the region requirements for System Cards.

I've been trying to get another U.S. System 3.0 card for years, because back when I had both, at least one of them would run on either region. Maybe it's just random cards or hardware, but he could be telling the truth. He could also have a U.S. card in a japanese case. The auction does say that the manual is japanese, so the only part he'd be possibly lying about would be if he really tested it on a Turbo-CD.

Misleading, but he specifically states that its for the CDROM2 system and not the TurboGrafx 16.

-=QUOTE=-
"Up for auction is a near mint NEC Super System Card version 3.0 for the CD-ROM2 System which provides an additional 192KB of RAM and the 3.0 BIOS update"

And nowhere did he say this specific card would work in a TG16. He just said a Super System Card in the TG16 makes it like a DUO.

Bastard is playing on words and should be reported!!

Except in the title of the auction, and in the sentence that follows the one you quoted.
"The Turbo Grafx-CD w/ the Super System Card 3.0 can play Super CD-Rom2 Games which turns a Turbo Grafx CD system into a Turbo Duo."

He'll probably get $80-100 for this too.

I took a closer look at mine just to see if there are any differences.  Only difference I noticed on the card itself was it has the HE in the bottom right corner of the card.  Not to mention all the JAP writing on the back.

That's is what I was looking at too, the HE in the corner. The american version has some kind of small print I can't make out on my computer. Iv never actually seen one in person, sadly.

That is a Japanese sys card 3.0

The US one has

Ver. 3.O on the left, no HE on the right, and no text above SUPER SYSTEM CARD.

(Im looking at mine right now)

so, that guy is a dick.

Report him then! :D

Maybe they've got a three-strikes policy. Auction ends in 90 minutes.

I almost fell for this damn auction.I sent the the guy a message stating that there's a pc engine system on the back of the case.He didn`t reply. In the auction he says-"I've tested this card with Dracula X and Ys on my Turbo Grafx 16 CD but if there is any compatibility with your Unit I guarantee a refund".I don`t really think its a scam,if the guy is offering a refund, and has 100% positive feedback. But the auction is misleading.

I am not sure either about it being a scam.  But, a lot of us from here emailed him and all he did was revise his listing saying what you reported above. So, in the best interest of all his bidders I reported him too. I guess watch the auction and we'll find out.

How can you defend that turbofan1? It is an obvious scam. The reason he didn't reply to you is because he states in the auction that it has Japanese instructions. As far as it working with his Ys and DraculaX, I'm sure as hell it will; with a hucard converter! lol. I better sell my jdm sys.3.0 card for $100 then since asshats like this guy and gamesquad are doing it. Maybe it is you selling this. :P

haha, I wasn't calling you an ass. I only wish that I could pm the high bidder and warn him/her of the travesty being commited; I mean come on, $67.59 for a japanese sys 3.0 card? that is sad man.

I have a feeling it will go like this:

buyer: This system card does not work on my US hardware without a hucard converter, can I get a refund?

seller: It does work with both US and Japanese cd games as I clearly stated in my auction, no refund for you!

buyer: :(

Used to be able to before they started hiding bidder names. For the most part, it's good that they hide the names, but in a case like this....

I once got justice from the report system when I sold off some doubles. Some dueche jacked the photo I took and I got all these questions from bidders asking if it was a photo of the actual item. I reported the bastard and his auction was yanked. Then some dude bought all my games and paid me a week later. :)

Many/most? people leave positive feedback after receiving the item, instead of testing it first or testing it properly. That's how I wound up with a Neo Geo CD with a dead laser after already leaving positive feedback.
