Title: WTB-Turbografx CD Super System Card 3.0
Post by: Mathius on April 27, 2009, 04:17:46 PM
HELP!! I almost can't stand the drama of getting one of these domestic system cards on eBay. I almost had one yesterday but 5 secs from the end of the auction somebody swooped in and took it from me! I was so MAD  And GameSquadStore.....yeah you all know. The highest prices in the universe. I bet these guys would charge you just for the luxury of breathing if they could. So, yes I don't know what to do. I know I have the option of modding my system, but being a game collector I'd like to keep everything as original as I can. And going the converter route would almost be as expensive as the "normal" way. Can anybody help me?

sadly the damn card is always expensive.  Youd almost be better off getting a US turbo duo, since it will cost about the same in the end, and is basically a spare system also.

Going the converter route at least lets you play Japanese hucards also, so you get an extra incentive for spending a ton of cash on it..

as opposed to US System card 3 which is just the card for CD games...

That's true about the converters. I am going to ponder on that one for a bit. And the Duos are getting more expensive each day!

For roughly the same cost of a converter, I'd rather pick up another TG-16 and region mod it (leaving your current TG-16 unmolested); either that or get a Duo-R, which are quite a bit cheaper than US Duos.  Alternatively, you could pick up an Arcade Card Pro and fit it with a ChopsadoTM, which would be the most economical route to playing Super CD-ROM2s with the added bonus of being able to play Arcade CD-ROM2s.

I have been looking at the Due-R imports for a while. Damn right they're cheaper! I think I might go this route. Plus I think the Duo-Rs just look sweet. All I am worried about is the voltage differences with the ac adapter.

You shouldn't have any troubles using the original power supply in the US, though you can always use a replacement power supply if you want to be extra cautious.

dont worry about voltages if youre US.  You should be safe afaik.

only thing to worry about is shipping overseas, :-D

Yeah, but it will be worth it.

Not yet. I've mostly been browsing around in Hit-Japan. Their prices are pretty reasonable. Even their Neo-Geos are nicely priced!

OMG Dude! RisingStuff has one boxed for $175.00  Hit-Japan didn't even have one boxed for that price!!! Thanks for the tip :)

Most of the ones I have seen all over the place have something like a $65.00 shipping fee.   I dont really know anything about international shipping so I cant say if thats even fair or not.  Anyone have any input on what a duo from japan would truely cost?

I paid $130 + $65 shipping for my Duo-R, from hit-japan (last summer). I know it doesn't cost $65 to ship from Japan, but it was the cheapest total cost I could find at the time.

I see RisingStuff sells it for $189. I can't find the boxed one you mentioned, only these two for $199 boxed and $189 loose:

https://www.risingstuff.com/store/pcengine-duor-boxed-p-2097.html?osCsid=79hejfjvm7mdjqvk38bj2p6gn3

I will say that RisingStuff's shipping costs will be MUCH more reasonable, so it may almost balance out. Hard to beat $199 boxed.

65$ to ship a duo EMS from Japan sounds about right in the US.

Go to Japan post website and get estimates.  It costs 170,000 Yen to ship a 10.3kg package.

The boxed duo-r must be sold.  I grabbed a boxed duo-r off yahoo.jp from a friend for 65$ w/ games.

granted, its uh, still waiting to be shipped since i need to come up with the 170$ for the shipping >_O

I paid 65 boxed w/ Tennokoe Bank, Final Soldier, Tiger Heli, somethin else, Dragon Slayer LOH, something else, and some adverts....

But I got lucky.

That boxed duo-r was almost what I ended up with though.

Here's the link to the boxed Duo-R

The functionality is the same of course, but that's a plain ol' Duo, not a Duo-R.

I like the color scheme on the Duo better than the Duo-R.

Sounds like the biggest problem is that your running out of patience and everyone here knows how that feels.  Lets be realistic about this.  How cheap can you really get a 3.0 card?  I happen to find one at a store for $59.  I think we all know that your not going to pay less than $100 if your solely searching on eBay.

Personally I would say that for the price you are going to pay for the super silly card, you might as well upgrade.

Japanese Sys3 is 7$!

Yeah, but I always wanted a Turbo Duo or a PC Engine Duo. I know I'll own one or the other at some point in the near future. How much is modding usually anyway?

Duo-R (I think) does them so I would ask him.

If he doesn't do them, someone does! Speak up! >_<

Yeah duo_r does do the region mod. He's in the middle of modding my pce duo-r,the most he charges for the region switch is $45.00

I'd highly recomend having a region switch put in mathius. No converter to mess with once it's in you just hit the switch and you're set.

YES!!! Dude, I would owe you in a big way. That's just real cool of you. See everyone, there's still nice people in this world. Not that all of you aren't nice. I mean...your all nice. Except that....he's just.....f*ck! #-o I hate it when that happens. Anyhow, if  this super cool store owner would hold this for me until next week(assuming it tests out ok) that would be great. If it all works out I'll def try and make it worth your while. I am going to be strapped for spending money after a Turbo Duo purchase. But shoot me some kind of deal, even if you want some games. I have LOTS of games for just about any system you can think of with a few exceptions. Except for my turbografx collection, just because I am positive that I don't have anything that you don't already have. It's very pitiful at the moment but it's growing. I have Keith Courage, Final Lap Twin, Aero Blaster(CIB), Dungeon Explorer(CIB), Neutopia(CIB), Legendary Axe, Buster Bros., Exile(CIB), Cosmic Fantasy 2(CIB),Spriggan(CIB), Blazing Lazers(CIB), and Bonk's Adventure(CIB)  I know my collection rundown is off point but I haven't had an excuse to divulge it yet. :) Look forward to hearing what you find out.
