I just bought a copy of Sylphia  can't wait to play it, I've heard its amazing :D
I've also got a copy of Bazaaru de Gozaaru on its way, good times.
-
What'd you pay for it? It's not overly special, but the game is really fun. I love the music too.
-
What'd you pay for it?
complete copy for £165, i was reluctant to pay so much as I used to see them sell for a £100 but the price seems to be now going up and up as the game gets rarer and rarer and didn't want to end up paying even more for it later.
-
Man all these rarer games getting bought lately ](*,) Only ever seen a Bazaaru for sale anywhere once or twice...nice grabs :)
-

yeh I've been waiting ages for a reasonably priced copy of Sylphia to come up but it never did, then all of sudden the price started to rocket and I thought I'd get in there quick before it gets any more expensive.

It's definitely not worth that, but if you've got money to burn it's still a cool game. :P I've bought and sold several copies over the years for $40 or less.
-
The prices this fetches these days are ridiculous. When i bought mine, mint, for £90 years back from VGI i was annoyed then, i'd be raging now! It's a pretty good game, nothing special graphics wise though. I could've burned you a copy so you could've tried it before you bought it jamie, but i think you're just well in to your collecting at the moment!

yeh thats the kind of price I was hoping to pay, been waiting ages but none ever turned up.
VGI are now selling it for £219

Sylphia is one of my favorites, but here in Japan it sells for less then half of that. Same with Bizaaru. Considering how much your spending, I'd recommend a shopping trip here. You'd probably save money even after the plane tickets.
-
Congrats hco i'm a owner of sylphia as well.I think it's a bit overrated, but a good shmup plus who doesn't like having a greek mythology for a theme in it.

what is bizzaru? :P
here in japan, a sylphia costs you about US$250 and bazaaru about US$220 at the moment. for my ultra mint bazaaru i even payed $260 at that time (3 yrs back).
so £165 is a quite good price at the momentan exc-rate!

years back you would have. but I guess nowadays you wouldn't anymore.
here in japan, sylphia is one of those game, which became ultraexpensive just over the past few years. among with rendering ranger for the SFC.
-
My spelling is so good, only I can do it!
And my Sylphia and Bizzzzzaru were 9,000yen and 7,800yen respectively. They both lack spinecards, but are otherwise in pristine condition. I bought them both in Osaka just last summer. Good deals can still be had, just takes more effort then the past.

when I was last out in japan the going rate for a complete Sylphia seemed to be 13000-14000 JPY
Same with Bizaaru.
I paid £128 for a complete copy of Bazaaru

yeh I was thinking that myself but plane tickets are £500 alone, let alone accommodation

thats exactly what i paid 8)

ok, 9,000yen and 7,800yen are really good prices for a sylphia & bazaaru. but i'm sure those where just nice bargain grabs. without spines, you have to pay at least the double of it nowadays.
as i said, syphias price arised sheer exponetial in the last 2 years.
-
Don't forget to check out the hard rock version of Sylphia that Tom & I put together! Although I love the music in Sylphia, I feel our version is much more fitting for the game, though, I don't have a link to it, you'll have to ask Tom.
Nevermind, I found the link!

Yikes i guess i'm realy lucky then when electrichaze had his big sale of,TG16&PCE games later year.
The most i payed for sylphia was ($98.00) though it's manual wasn't mint...getting the game was worth while to me.
-
Tats - is Sylphie without spine going for that much at Nihon?
I just won an auction that cost me 9598 yen ($110 USD), reflecting shipping + Yahoo JP charges for credit card payments..
It doesn't have spine :( but I thought it was still relatively a good deal. Been wanting to play this for a while now.

Price differences between Osaka and Tokyo are weird. I've seen huge price differences between the two cities for no reason at all... Hell. In Osaka there are 2 stores on the same street. One sells RayXanber III for 6,000yen, the other sells it for 2,000yen....
Either way Sylphia is one of my favorites, enjoy it. :) Put in on Hard though, Normal is a bit too easy. I was able to 1cc "Special Hard" after only about 2 weeks. Great game to replay though, atmosphere is perfect in this one.
-
Deadite - how much are Sylphies going for at Osaka?

Varies a lot. I've seen everything from 8,000yen-17,000yen. Strangely, Osaka shops don't seem to care about spine cards very much. Stores here tend to sell games for the same price if it has the spine or not. Meaning you can get a beautiful copy for a good price, or get a so-so one for the same depending on your luck.
DenDen Town used to be great. But it's shrunk over the years. ******* Super Potato has slowly been buying out the local shops to increase their overpriced monopoly. Still though, I prefer DenDen over Akiba, way less tourists :). Also has probably the best MSX shop in the entire country, if it's your thing. :)
-
I wish I can get a copy of Sylphia :<
-
Sylphia is pretty much my favourite PCE game, despite its price. Something so nice about the pace, styling, fluidity and music. I think it tops Spriggan to be honest!
-
Deadite - I've never been to Osaka country. Tho I did take a few days vacation to Kyoto country a few years ago. No PCE back then, just ate a lot of tofus and more tofus and golden castle then silver castles and more castles lol.
Are you there now? A gaijin buddie of mine used to teach English (no, not at NOVA, though he did prey on cutie chicks like all NOVA teachers did) at Osaka like 15 years ago. He always told me the people there are very cool (though very direct and sometimes vulgar), but chill, compared to city folks at Tokyo.

I live in Shiga actually. And I was a Nova teacher for about a year. Not everyone was bad... But even in it's glory days Nova was always a temp job, only a true moron would attempt to work at such a place forever. So I found a real job locally and am still here. As for preying on chicks, where I live it's the opposite. I've had many a married woman approach me over the years, but married ain't my bag. Have to be careful as they often lie about it. Love this country but the crazies are everywhere. (Much like back home :) )
-
It's always a culture shock when I visit Oosaka
-
I am playing Sylphia now.. I think I'm not giving it enough time but I haven't gotten sucked into it yet.... grrrrr
Bazzy for less than ichimon yen.. man.. i wish that is still the case. I haven't opened my complete sealled copy yet.. that is an expensive 26500 yen worth of plastic.. but i feel the magnetic force guiding my hand closer each day.. lol
-
Sylphia is very much an atmosphere game. the intro hooked up instantly, and the dark morbid tone of the game never lets me go. I do recommend playing it at least on hard though, very easy 1cc on normal. Special Hard is a lot of fun once you're ready for it. Even on normal though, very relaxing game to play, just absorb the atmosphere :)
-
just bought myself a copy of Sylphia and got it yesterday. This is the game I want the most but for some reasons I kept missing opportunities to get this title and finally I got it...........:D
-
congrats Snake! welcome to the Sylphie club. How much did she set you back? Did you pick it up from JP or US auctions?

I paid $199 + shipping from ebay. I still remember Sylphia was sold $90 shipped in here back in 2005 but at that time I was getting Dead of the Brains 1& 2................
Well, I like this game so much..............cool soundtrack though
-
wow, Sylphie is a pricey little fairy princess everywhere!
I spent ~10,000 yen about a months ago to nab mine in Japan, ~$120 USD with the way Yen is rocking vs. the Dollar. No spine card though - was yours complete? If so, not a bad deal!
Dead of Brain.... mmmm... how much did you nab those back in the days? I got sh*tlucky and found a new sealled copy this last JP trip for $140. I couldn't believe it. I paid more than $150 for an open complete copy w/o registration just like 3 months prior. I think I still have my piss stain from wetting my pants.. hahha (just kidding).
I'm currently waiting for my RGB->HDMI upscale convertor to arrive, so then I can really enjoy watching little Sylphie fly with the Doujindance's RGB modded Duo 8) 8) 8)

Mine doesn't come with a spinecard so it's okay.........at least I have this game in hand to play :)
Regarding to Dead of the Brains 1&2, I was very very very lucky to get a new copy for $55 + shipping on eBay during the memorial weekend in 2005. I don't know if it's the long weekend or what but nobody was bidding at that time. But I was running out of fund so I can only pay Brains not Sylphia......
-
Congrats Snake. I sitll need Sylphia :( I'd take it over DOTB any day of the week!
-
Speaking of Dead of the Brain, did anyone here get this copy (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250677990183&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT)? At about $135 shipped, that's a pretty dang good deal.
-
that is a great deal indeed. I sold my copy just like it (same, w/spine but w/o reg. card), plus bunch of RPGs and it went to $300 a few months back.

My friend, from which I got it, bought it in 1996 for around that price, and I took it from him in 2002.

Does Tom even post here anymore? It seemed liked he always had alot of game translations things going on.It would be kinda of A shame if he left the community.

He hasn't been on here in a while. He comes and goes. He hasn't left the community though-- you can find his site here (http://pcedev.wordpress.com/).

Just ordered a copy on impulse yesterday, it is a lovely game no question, and I don't care if I paid $30 or $50 or $100 or $200 more than the next person. I had a decent backup in any case, which I have played a fair bit, however, owning an original gives me slightly more inclination to really challenge the game, on hard like one of you guys mentioned. Although Sappire is 'technically' more impressive in its use of effects, sprite scaling etc I do hold Sylphia in massive regard for being atmospheric, well paced, with very satisfying weapons and enemies. It is quite similar to Spriggan so that makes a more sensible early addition to the collectable PCE Super CD library. I'd be impressed / surprised by anyone buying Sylphia in the beginning of their PCE collection - considering.
-
I'd really like to get a copy of this game, but I won't pay hundreds for it.

Same here. Hopefully I'll nab one as part of a big lot someday.
