Title: Exile
Post by: Gogan on May 29, 2009, 12:31:48 AM
I'm having trouble with one of the bosses in Exile. It is the red bird (his name escapes me) in Lanker forest (the level with poisonous butterflies and worms), you climb up the tree to get to the door to fight him.  I stock up on health potions and enter to fight and what seems to be like an hour of fighting gets me nowhere! I have the best possible sword and armor. He slowly drains my power with those swoop atacks and I can't figure out the pattern.  Wtf? Any pointers?

Try using some (fire?) magic.

Tried that, but according to the manual, my sword does more damage! Aaahh!

What experience level are you at?  Gaining another level (or two) can make all the difference in the world.  That said, only its underside is vulnerable, so it's best to stay on the ground and hack away, jumping up only to dodge its charge and flying feathers.  Like Black Tiger noted, the fire attack helps keep you out of harms way, though you'll run out before big bird is thoroughly roasted and have to finish him with the sword.

hahaha. In the begining of Exile, I did a little cheat to up my level. There was a spot where some gay ant kept respawning, so I kept killing it. It got boring after awhile, so I attatched a clothes pin to my turbo pad with the turbo switches on. I came back later and had a high player level. The whole game was an easy joke after that; part 2, however, is EXTREMELY hard. I had to have the help of the old Rover to beat that one.

From The FAQ, which I can send you if you would like.

Necromancer & Black Tiger covered this, but just in case.

------
Boss Battle: Guruda
Recommended Level: 10
Guruda flies back and forth through its domain, attempting to slam into you.
Couple this with a projectile attack and you have the hardest boss thus far.
Only Guruda's underside can be damaged, so stay on the ground floor as much as
possible, jumping up only to dodge a charge or volley of feathers. Use Fire
Blast (Level 2) to hit him from a distance and avoid having to get in close.
------

I would always stand at the beginning of the level for half an hour or so, and wait for the forest monsters to keep coming, racking up a few levels by walking back & forth. Even though the FAQ says level 10, I wouldn't fight him until level 15 or so.

Thanks. I will try that out. I figured I needed to take advantage of the respawning aspect of the enemies to drive my exp up. Could you send me that guide or a link to it? Thanks

Wow, I always considered Exile to be one of the easiest games on the face of the earth. I think I beat it during the same session that I started the game for the first time.

I think that this is the boss that reminds me each time I play the game for the first time in years, that there are magic attacks to use. :P

Yep. Beat it. Pretty easy, I liked fighting my evil self. Great game, great story. Now if I can only track down the Wicked Phenomenon.....

Good luck finding Wicked Phenomenon. I can't find a copy that's less then $100.

Go for the cheaper (and easier) PCE version.  It can be had for $10 or so and is 100% playable without Japanese language skills.

The PCE version is actually more playable. The game itself is straightforward, but the Turbo version's gameplay improvements break an already flawed game.

SWEET! I did not know that.

There's a few threads about it around here somewhere. The difficulty is severely ramped-up for the US version. Enemy locations are the same as far as I could tell, but they deal out more damage and take like 3-4X as many hits to kill. And they don't respawn the same way they did in Exile 1, so you can't sit in place for hours with the attack button held down.

The big problem with both versions of Exile WP is that the screen scrolls when the player is so close to the edge.

I hate it when games do that

US version of Exile II isn't as tough as people make it out to be- but the game is severely lacking compared to Exile I.
