Title: SuperGrafx question
Post by: Fatality on August 14, 2009, 04:13:39 PM
Hey, I have a quick question about the Super Grafx. I have a PC Engine Duo-R and want to buy Gouls'N Ghosts for the Super Grafx and was just wondering if Gouls would be compatible with my PC Engine Duo-R? Thanks

Nope.  It will only work in the Super Grafx..no compatability with the Duo's.

To continue this topic, is Ghouls and Ghost good enough to warrant a purchase.

Any system bought for just 1 game is rather a hard sell.   Most of the few SGFX games are damn solid (and GnG being GREAT)...I like my SGFX (and use it as my primary PC Engine system).

You'd have to *really* like G&G. The SGX is really just a nice collector piece, to be honest. I can name at least 50 Hu/CD/SuperCD/ArcadeCD games I'd rather have that G&G, and G&G is, IMO, the best SGX game.

I'm enough of a GnG series fan to warrant buying a SGX. It's also just such a unique and sexy console and something I've been wanting since it came out. heh But yeah, it's definitely not something to just try out and see if you like the games.

Definitely more of a collector's item than a player's piece.  I had a SGX + SCD-ROM2 setup at one point, but sold it off when I realized the 5 extra games really didn't justify the setup taking up half of my living room space.

sure it is, undeniable! but it's no exclusive and there are better ports of it around since a long time now. anyway, if you own a SGFX, for sure you need daimakaimura. oh what i'm telling here, anyway you need every PCE game in existence!

Watching Dr Who much?  I had a Supergrafx, and sold it.  It's a cool looking console,
but it was collecting too much dust.  Needs more games.

Hmm... good idea.  That thread could use a good Dalek reference.

Just so you know, the game is available on other systems like SS, PS, PS2, and PSP. I'm not a G&G fan, but I'm pretty sure all of those ports are as good, or better, than the SGX version, so buying a SGX for G&G would be like buying a PCE for SFII (pointless, although fun is where you find it, I suppose).

I don't have a SGX, but I have every intention of getting one some day. What I'm not going to do is try to fool myself into thinking that there is any rational reason for it. I just want an odd and huge-ass PC Engine with six mediocre exclusives.

I don't think ports are pointless. I might own a series of the same port for many systems. Each port has it's own charm. And GnG for SGX is different enough to warrant its purchase IMO. Just like owning the Genesis version as well. I mean, if I went with that logic that I shouldn't own an inferior port - then I might as well not own any ports. MAME is the real deal.

Absolutely (emphasis added).

I have fun playing the "mediocre" and "poor" ports as well as the divine ones.

Guess, I missed it.  It's been a while since I've been around.  Gotta dust off the PCE
