I actually went to the auction on Friday even though I didn't buy anything; It was much like any other state sale, save for it was massively publicized; Arnold was autographing stuff to raise money; mainly clothing and the visors of cars.
There were TV cameras from everywhere, including the BBC and every online publication you could think of.
Some good deals to be had; if you were looking for office furniture or old WWII era wooden desks then this was the place to be. For example: A stack of used office chairs for like $45. The vehicles were broken in, but VERY well maintained, as California has strict emissions laws, and a large maintenance budget. I saw an 03 Mercury Grand Marquis Judge's car with a [SOLD] sign for $3,200. Most of the electronics were picked over/gone by the time I got there; and yes, even Arnold was selling an Xbox 360.
I specifically went to go see what the old Highway Patrol bikes were going for; there were some very nice BMW cruisers that had upwards of 60,000 miles, which for a BMW is just broken in. About the same price as the cars... (One day...)

And in case anyone's interested, here is the follow-up on the BBC.
1.5 Million for California. We could use it, trust me.

Yet they're still short by $25,998,500,000! I suppose that every little bit helps, but they still have a long, long way to go.
