How come this game got ports to the NES, and a ton of computer ports, but no port for any of the 16 bit consoles? The sequel, Turtles in Time, did, but not the first one. WTF? ](*,)

theres an interesting question that i never even thought about...
hmmm

The NES version was pretty solid, so I wouldn't be too upset about it. Not to mention, this game came out when Nintendo had all of those exclusivity agreements in place, so I assume they had the rights to the only console version.
I would've had to buy it 3 times if it came out on more systems, so it is more gnarly this way dude :)

You can play it on the Xbox360 which is almost 16-bit. The sound effects are typical Digital Eclipse quality, though (re: loud and scratchy).

Because by then it was old. I'm not saying that was a good reason, I'm just saying that was the reason.
Bad timing has screwed us out of a lot of good games. I *really* wanted a home version of Scud Race/Super GT, but the Saturn couldn't pull it off, and by the time the DC came out the game was old news. I still play this game in arcades regularly to this day. Its my absolute favorite arcade racer.

They did have Scud the Disposable Assassin on the Saturn so I guess they didn't need Scud Race.
-
Interest timing I guess, because of Turtles in Time everybody moved on from that

I can kind of understand the exclusivity bit for America, but that wasn't the case in Japan or Europe. Or were the turtles just not that popular elsewhere?

I didn't want a Saturn version anyway since it would have seemed so ugly. This was pretty much the cutting edge of Model 3 at the time, and the Saturn could barely limp its way through Model 2 ports.
