Title: How do you save on a standard white PCE?
Post by: MasonSushi on October 19, 2009, 04:06:42 AM
I am getting one in the mail and was wondering how the games are saved? I am figuring passwords for most, but I have heard of the
Tennoke 2 Memory that saves games as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks from a new PCE guy.   :D

You don't!

You can buy a Backup Booster or a Ten no Koe 2 and save to those (they plug into the back of the PCE), but only on HuCards that have the "back up" logon on the front of the case. You can also save the same way to the CDROM2 attachment,

I figured most used passwords. No?? So most games need a backup device?

Thanks

Any Hu that needs it has a password system, but some also can save on your memory unit to save you the bother.

Yeah, most HuCards use a password (or don't save at all). Later on they started to release more HuCards that would save to back-up devices since eventually NEC was only selling Duos and so everyone had the capability. In any case its a convenience. You won't be SOL without a back-up device, you'll just have to write down a code. The only exception I can think of are games like Final Solider that save high scores. If you don't have a back-up device there will be no way to save the high scores. Obviously that's not a huge deal to most people though.

From what I've seen there aren't very many US HuCards that save, but there are quite a few in Japan.

Depending on the price, you might consider getting a SuperCD (http://junk.tg-16.com/images/MotoRoaderMC_1.jpg). I decided to grab a SuperCD, even though I have DUO's and TG-CD, simply to "upgrade" the white PCE to composite video. Oh, and I suppose I have a fetish for the SuperCD hardware.

Keep in mind that the Super CD is not the commonest of the PCE Hardware but esteban is right, it's a very good alternative.
