Mysterious Song is finally coming! :) It was on hold for awhile because everyone was busy with real-life issues but things have picked up again and work has resumed on all major areas of development. I am just hoping that people think it's worth the wait...
There have been a number of additions to the game lately...a lot of enhancements added here and there, and some new bonus features added as well. Black Tiger's new artwork is stunning, to say the least...maybe he'll be willing to share a sample or two, hehe. :) A production this large is certain to spring numerous flaws and glitches though, and such issues have been tackled and resolved. Beta testing should resume soon as well, probably within the next 2 weeks.
In addition to this game, work has also resumed on our secret project with a new tile artist on board, and lord_cack has a similar project of his own that uses the same game engine. Neutopia III is still on hold for now though. There is another project that we have in queue in an under-represented genre for the console, but work won't begin on that one until we have a few releases. Finally, Tom is leading a project of his own, though I'm not sure what the status is of it right now but that's another one that's going to be sweet. :)
New screenies very soon! :)

Awesome. Looking forward to it.

I too am looking forward to it! 8)

Alright! I can't believe it's finally coming! I've been waiting for this game for what seems like forever! With any luck, we might get TWO new Turbo games this year!
-
My problem has been a lack of time...my wife and I were hammering away at several IRL things for the past two years with no breaks. But now she's working fulltime as a publicity agent and has to do it alone so I'm home most of the time now with the kids so I've got free time to work on stuff. Right now, Mysterious Song is getting some much-needed polish and the inclusion of the final versions of the sprites...no further in-game graphical changes will take place from here.
Well anyways, here are some shots taken just now. Some of these have already been seen but have new changes.

Hmm, mysterious!!
-
Wow, an RPG? Cool.
-
Wahou, mysterious song is done
Congratulation , rpg games are so difficult to made ..
-
Yeah heres to hoping it gets out before 2010!
-
Yep, it is indeed just about done. :) What's left is mainly polish...Keranu's new enemy sprites are being added, and Black Tiger's cutscene art will be added as soon as it's ready. Also, I would like to add that the game features unlockable content, like many modern games do...doing certain things in-game or reaching certain milestones will unlock various additional features. I won't say what they are right now, but hopefully it'll make the game a bit more interesting. :) And yeah touko...RPGs are most certainly the most difficult type of game to pull off on an old console. Easy as pie on the PC but here, they're a real challenge. Action games are a breeze in comparison.
-
Very impressive. Can't hardly wait for all the new Turbo releases!
-
Woo-hoo! Good to see M.S. is nearing completion and that so many other projects are under way. 8)

Is there a release date?

No, there is currently no known release date...and I'd rather not speculate, since deadlines never work out anyways. :) We're mainly just waiting for Black Tiger's final artwork...he's a pretty busy guy so it's taking awhile, but little by little it's getting done. Keranu has a little work to do for one of the special features, and I still have a few pieces of code to add, but aside from that...the game engine itself has been completed for quite some time now, and as far as I know, the soundtrack has as well.
When it comes to pressing time, we are going to have it done right here on the island. We already have a replication house selected that will be able to do the job. It's not as cheap as the one Arkhan went through but their turnaround is faster, and they ensure data integrity at a level far higher than just about everyone else...plus, since they're right here on the island, we can maintain quality control ourselves locally. The higher cost of pressing with these guys is well worth it for all the benefits it comes with.
-

In other words - drive over and beat 'em down with a shovel if they try to pull any shenanigans.

That is correct. :D
Well realistically...I can just bring over a Duo system and have a freshly pressed disc run in it right away to make sure it works. Also, my wife and I know the owner, so that makes things a lot easier.

Of course it is. :)
Hope all is well with you and family :) .

Here's are some relatively spoiler-free screenshots-
(http://superpcenginegrafx.com/misc/mysterious_song_cinema_preview.html)
These are all (other than the logo) more or less real actual PC Engine graphics and will look pretty much exactly the same in the game. That tall shot of the main villain is a vertical scroll and the width is still 256 pixels. These are not final and may very well be touched up further to look nicer before being implemented.
-
WOW! These are awesome! I especially love that portrait of Ryanna! =P~
You know, I just finished the original PC version last night. What a weird game. Now I'm mad that the "Chapter 2" referenced in the end never came about!
Still it was fun, except for the Dragon Warrior level of grinding required. (Damn you, Vyper!)
-
Very nice work !!!
-
The original designer, DarkDread, stated many years ago that the game was indeed based on Dragon Warrior and deliberately plays "slow" and requires level grinding. The PCE version, on the other hand, is not as much of a grind; you're still required to become powerful, but if you play in Balanced mode, it requires a lot less of it, though the game plays through quicker that way.
-
Here's are some relatively spoiler-free screenshots-
Those are a mighty improvement over the art found in the last beta. Nicely done, but do you have one where Ryanna has lost her top. :D
-
Ryanna casts X-Thunder!
The Necromancer takes 999 damage!
Ryanna is victorious!
Gained 0 GP.
Gained 500 EXP.
Found a few green pieces of paper with weird-looking people drawn on them.
:P

Gained 0 GP.
Correction - she'd gain one gold piece..... from my crown.
Gained 500 EXP.
Oh yeah, I'd give her some 'experience' alright. Giggity, giggity.

Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!
Ryanna, too.

Alright!
BTW, this looks like it is going to be a killer game. You guys on this board make my Turbo happy.

lol :D
Yes folks, there is the possibility of a Japanese translation of the game. :D
The closed beta test on Mysterious Song has resumed and is going smoothly. Several existing issues were corrected today, and there are a few other known issues that are being looked into right now. We will NOT release this game until it is perfect.
-
Just a quick little update...
Beta 2 is drawing to a close...the current game is virtually flawless. Beta 3 will contain the ENTIRE game, which will be picked apart by the beta testers. Once Beta 3 is all patched up, RC1 will be released, which will be our last pre-pressing version. RC2 will be the version that goes to press if there's nothing wrong with it. We're anticipating an end-of-the-year completion, with pressing in early 2010 and a March 2010 release. The dates are tentative, of course, and could change, but that's how things are looking right now.
Keranu and I were talking tonight about additional translations. Since we've had offers for Japanese and German, plus there is demand for a French translation (although no reliable translators yet), there will likely be a second pressing for the additional languages.

I will gladly help you folks with the translations. In particular, I can help with the Ukrainian version of the game.
-
I'm not so sure there would be much demand for a Ukranian version. :D
-
We are still looking for a French translator...anyone up for it? :D
-
They visit Darm Tower??
I actually took the world map icon and the design from original cinemas and modeled it after the Tower of Babel. Obviously Darm Tower is a Babel rip off as well, but many aspects of the cinemas are purposely 'inspired' by various games and anime.
A couple scenes involving the tower will be reminiscent of the Ys II opening cinema.

If I had enough time, I'd like to do it but I still have to finalize the correction of DOTB1&2 and after that I have to work on The PC Engine Bible Volume 2. Still, I can make an announcement at Necstasy.

-
OK cool thanks man. :D The script isn't huge; it's far smaller than a typical RPG script, so it probably wouldn't take very long to translate...
-
Looks great Rover Just great! Cant wait to get my paws on it

I checked out the thread on Necstacy and of course, since I don't speak French, it doesn't help much. But from my wife's reading of the thread (she speaks French), it seems we're not very welcome amongst the French, especially after Armen's postings. Armen had applied for a position in our group, but his attitude was very rough and forceful, and him and Black Tiger had creative differences from the very beginning so it didn't end up working out. Adding to the mess was Seldane and his sharp tongue. shubibiman, it's not that the "Americans didn't want him", it was simply a clash of egos between artists. It happens all the time. :) I would gladly work with Armen. But as usual, only half the story is told without ever learning the other half. So if anyone would like to hear the other side of the story, you know where to find me.
-
Well that is very cold and unsupportive of homebrew to extend such poor feelings towards others. >_< bummer.
-
Thanks for giving me your point of view as I like to be told the whole story before judging.
But still, I don't agree when you say
it seems we're not very welcome amongst the French
It's true that Arm and Kaminari feel bitter about their experience with Frozen Utopia but I don't feel that the others (including me) think exactly the same. I read the topic again and to be honest, most of us think that it's a shame Arm didn't join your team as we think he's a very talented graphist. If you could read the topic then it means that you registered to Necstasy so feel free to answer, everyone will be pleased if you do so. ;)
-
Yes, my wife and I both registered to the forum. I will post a response.
-
Kaminari used to post here, whatever happened to him/her?
-
I don't know. There were certain factions in the past here that have scared members away, so perhaps that was part of it.
shub, I wrote the post.

Hi Nodtveidt,
I posted a response on Necstasy.

Kaminari is a great person who I totally miss from pcefx and magicengine forums.
You can still find him elsewhere, of course, but I miss his contributions here.
:(
On a positive note, Kaminari has a 3-D, life-size carving of a PCE made of solid wood. It is 100% accurate and was carved by a fellow Frenchman years ago.
Now that's playing with power.
:)
-
Kaminari is bitter? What happend? I don't recall any kind of clash between us & Kam, nor any clash with Sel, I thought he just got bored working on games, I hardly even see him, if ever, at his own Ancient Land of Ys boards! It's like he disapeared! I'm not sure if I remember any clashing with Armen, though the name sound familiar :-k
-
Kaminari is bitter?
"bitter" is not the word, actually. This is a mistake due to my lame english ;)
I should have said that he was afraid that the game would never be released and he was disappointed by that. To tell you the truth, he's rather glad he was wrong and by reading his latest post on Necstasy, he's ready to do the french translation depending on the deadline ;)
-

A little bit too late, but i agree with shubibiman, you're welcome to necstasy forum ..
