It's obvious that everyone here probably likes their PC Engine or Turbo Grafx more than anything else. But let's see a vote on what is your NEXT 4 favorite consoles of all time. If one of the votes happens to be your FAVORITE of all time, and it's NOT an NEC console, mention it!
One of my votes was the Sega Genesis/CD/32X/CDX - which happens to be my favorite console of all time.
Other 3 votes were the NES, Playstation 1/2/3, and the 3DO.
-
I voted SNES, SS, DC, and Neo Geo. I assume most everyone else here will be about the same, except they will swap SNES with Mega Drive/Genesis.
Its a good thing handhelds aren't on here though. I love the GBA and NGP so much it would be difficult to factor them in.
-
Atari 2600/5200/7800 (Truth), Intellivision (Combat & Deadly Disks of TRON were the frst 2 games I ever played, NES (s/e), XBOX360 (laugh all you want, I like fixing them)
teh PSP would be on this list too somewhere.... 8)
-
PS2/3 together?
-
APF-M1000 and Channel F?!? Where's the other obscurities and failures, such as the RCA Studio II and the CD-i?
In no particular order, my favorites are the 2600, the NES, the SNES, and the Dreamcast; I've lots o' fond memories involving this fine quartet. :)
-
PS2/3 together?
Well I figured since the PS1, PS2, and PS3 are all backwards compatible, I'd just add them all as one, same as I did with the Xbox and 360.
Dammit, I knew I forgot something, I added the Studio II and CD-i to the list.
-
NES, Mega Drive, Saturn, Dreamcast for me :)
-

If you're shooting for a more or less complete list, then you've a long row yet to hoe. What about the OG Pong, the Super Acan, the Playdia, the Pippin, the X68000, etc.? Don't waste your time on 'em; few cared about 'em when they were new and even fewer care about 'em now. :D
-
Hahaha, yeah totally, that's what the OTHERS vote is for anyways. Surprised to see the Dreamcast tied for first right now with the NES. Not surprised the NES is tied for first. Interested in seeing how this all pans out.
-

Don't be. NEC built its graphics hardware, giving it oodles of extra awesome points. 8)

Hmm.. interesting, I never knew that. Always thought ATI was responsible for that. Or did ATI work with NEC to make their chipset?

ATI did the Gamecube, you might be thinking of that.
I voted SMS, Mega Drive, Saturn and PlayStation. I had a hard time choosing between the Saturn and Dremcast though. I wish I could change my vote now as I just remembered all the great times I had playing PSO.
-
i only picked three because i couldn't choose between the 4th...
votes went to SNES, Sega Saturn, SNK Neo Geo and the 4th is tie over Sega Genesis, Sega Dreamcast and Playstation.
-
In order of lov'n.....
Sega Dreamcast
Sega Genesis/CD/32X/CDX
Vectrex
Sega Master System
my Vectrex gets alot of play, the games are gold and i keep coming back to play. :)
-
I went Playstation, Genesis, MSX, Dreamcast, in no particuucaruualr order.
that was an interesting spelling.
-
Would've been NES, SNES, Genesis, Saturn, DC -- which is one more than allowed by the poll, and couldn't decide on which one to leave out till the very end...
-
Narrowing down to only 4 consoles is difficult.
In order of importance, my votes are:
Xavix
-

I could have swore that I allowed people to change their votes, because I knew that there could be some confusion with so many options, but maybe I didn't.
-
Hmmm someone voted "Others not on this list", I wonder what console that may have been? Maybe the C64? I didn't include the C64 and TI because I figured they were more like CPUS than consoles. Same with the PC.
-
NES, SNES, PS1-3, & Neo Geo for the win!

Well all PS3 can play PS1 games but still only the 20GB,60GB and early 80GB models can play PS2 titles. While the current slim is bc for PS1 games.

Sega Genesis/CD/32X/CDX
Sega Master System
Sega Saturn
NES
-
I voted:
Sega Genesis/CD/32X/CDX
Sega Master System
Sega Saturn
SNES
I chose SNES over NES simply because I had more fun with it. I felt that the Dreamcast was very "un-Sega"-like, so I didn't choose it. It was also loud and slow and had some of the shittiest controllers ever.

man, I love the dreamcast controllers!
I like them more than dualshock! the dpads especially.
-
Yeah, DC was great, but I thought that controller was a travesty. Two less face buttons than the Saturn, and I thought the angle where you had to hold them was super awkward (your wrists were sort of facing inward, which I found super-uncomfortable). Especially going from the Saturn mk2 pads, which are my all-time favorite controllers.
Anyway, enough with the bitch session, the games on the system were great though.

It's PowerVR based and built by NEC; PowerVR doesn't manufacture anything, but rather license others for manufacturing after they do the design work.

It might be Keranu voting for the Pippen.
-
man, I love the dreamcast controllers!
My brain just broke.

haha. Well, some people really do love the gynormous controllers. Xbox definitely got inspiration for their first line of controllers from the DC. I actually don't mind them either.
I think I might have forgotten to vote for Xbox. I don't really play it much for the games, but I use it daily as a mediatank - mostly for music.
-
Playdia is the BEST! #-o
-
The Playdia and Pippen are not on the list. It was hard coming up with what I already did on the list LOL. You'll just have to vote for those in OTHERS.
Anyone that votes in OTHERS, it would be nice if you stated what the other console is that you are voting for, just for everyone's information.
Looks like Sega is running away with this. I'm actually a bit suprised by this with all the Sega slamming that goes on around here.

hehe. I don't hate Feka. I think a lot of people, including me, dump on Feka because there's pent up frustration from all the Turbo/PCE haters. And it's just fun.
-
SNES, Saturn, Dreamcast, and the Tandy CoCo.
I know its not technically a console- but it pretty much was, just added a Keyboard.
it the first ever video game experience I had, so it is very near and dear to my heart! :P
-
Will be giving this poll another week or two then I am going to close it for analysis. It's been interesting so far.
-
OK polls are closed! Thanks to all who participated. Here are the results and my thesis.
Three way tie for first place goes to:
Sega Genesis, SNES, and NES. Not suprised that the NES is tied for first. Not really suprised for the SNES and the Genesis here either. These are typically the three consoles that we all grew up with (any of us 25-35 years old generally, except for old man Windy )
Second goes to:
Sega Saturn. I am guessing this is because of the strong import selection and excellent games, not to mention it's probably the most powerful 2D system ever.
Third place goes to:
Sega Dreamcast. Again, it's a system with an excellent import selection, and it has NEC inside which is ALWAYS a bonus. For a while in the polls the Dreamcast was in first place.
Sega dominates. They account for 43.10 percent of the total votes. This is actually surprising as I would have assumed that Nintendo would win it all. But in all reality, other than the NES and SNES all of the other nintendo consoles are really just not popular (except the Wii - but not in this poll)
Nintendo had a strong showing of support at 28 percent of all votes.
All other consoles came in at 28.9 percent of the votes.
Consoles with strong support but not making the top three include the PS1/2/3, Neo Geo, and Sega Master System.
Suprises. The Wii did not have a single vote. XBOX/360 only had 2. And there were 3 votes for the mysterious "other" consoles.
No support came in for the N64, Game Cube, Wii, Jag, FM Towns, Amiga, Colecovision, Fairchild, APF-1000, RCA Studio II, and CD-i. Not really suprised here, except for the Wii, and maybe the Jaguar.
My reasoning for the domination of Sega here over Nintendo is that we are all Turbografx/PC Engine fans. That by itself tells me that we are all subconciously into the "underdog" or alternative consoles. Sega has always kind of been the underdog out there similar to the NEC consoles. Also, Sega has a better number of consoles that are actually decent, unlike Nintendo (cough cough N64).
Does anyone else have any opinions on this poll?
-
I don't really see Sega as an underdog, but perhaps the view from this part of the world is different and Sega was very much the winner in the console wars over here. For me, the choice was moslty based on which consoles I grew up with that had the most influence; in my case Sega ones. They hold such memories that I wouldn't even think of voting for a more recent machine.
I'm a bit surprised the SNES got so may votes, it always seemed a bit meh to me.

Regardless of what the official "total" sales numbers were (which need to be broken down by year and by country, anyway, to be useful), here in the U.S., Sega was very strong and established at the dawn of the 16-bit era. When SNES finally was released, both Genesis and SNES were head-to-head with each other.
Anyway, it certainly *seemed* that, during the 16-bit era, that Sega and Nintendo were two juggernauts, each with their own strengths. Tons of great games for each console.
-
It's not that Sega's an underdog so much as it's that Nintendo is so over hyped by Snerds and self proclaimed "gamerz" alike.
Classic Nintendo games for NES and SNES are considered untouchable by way too many people, while the same people love to brutally judge contemporary games for rival consoles.
I voted:
Sega Genesis/CD/32X/CDX
Sega Master System
Sega Saturn
SNES

I only chose NES over SNES because I've lately had more interest in and fun with NES games.
I love the Dreamcast and it feels very Sega like to me, only a certain kind of Sega. Just as the previous Sega consoles all have a unique Sega feel. I also loved the controller for what it is, even if it's far from my overall favorite for 3D games today.
-
Even though this poll is closed, I feel the need to throw in my picks of 4 favorite consoles:
Sega CD - My first exposure to CD console gaming. Not to mention a great library such as the Lunar series and Working Designs titles.
Sega Saturn - AWESOME CD system that was cut too short in its lifetime. Great R1 2D and 3D titles but an awesome library of R2 import games such as the Langrisser and Sakura Wars series. 8)
Super Nintendo - Not only was this system fun and to date, Nintendo's zenith in the console development business, but also a great treasure trove of action games and RPGs. :D
NES - What can I say? It revolutionized gaming and is still a blast to play today as the day it came out. HUGE library of games and great simple fun! :D
-
Dreamcast- for Capcom fighters and shumps
Genesis- for the streets of rage & shining force series
PS2 - for the being the sleeper system of Shumps (living in the dreamcasts shadow)and ALL the Anime Games (Fist Of The Northstar)
Neo Geo MvS- for being totaly FU*CKING Awsome...Nuff Said !!!
If this List wasnt restricted it would be PC Engine, Dreamcast, Neo Geo Mvs .....i love neo pockect too
-
Odyssey 2 was my first system and that is why it got one vote! KC Munchkin would kick Pacman's ass any day of the week.
Plus, I always had fun scrambling dirty words in the word guessing game with my friends.
