Title: OBEY TEH MUZIK!!
Post by: ceti alpha on November 07, 2009, 06:10:56 PM
This forum desperately n33dz a music thread.

What muzik are you obeying today?

I, of course, will start it off with a Canuck bias, add to the fact that the cold Atlantic air is suddendly making its presence. I'm in the midst of a "Weeds" marathon, wishing I was in California, so here are my 'Odez to California':

For the last three days, I have actually listened to one song while I work on MSR... Lady Gaga's "Poker Face". Dunno why...I just love the song and can't get it out of my head. Before that, it was Mortician and Within Temptation. Gotta have good tunes to work to. :D

I have been obsessed with the "Gran Turismo" album by The Cardigans. Pick any song from the album, I love them all. Some songs stuck on repeat: Paralyzed, Higher, Hanging Around, oh, who am I kidding, the have all been on repeat.

Do you have the EP for that album, "Gran Turismo Overdrive - Remixed By Nåid"? f not, get it. Its nice and smooth.

Lately I've been listing to:

Poke 20 (C64 remix project) - Decent
Third World - Immortal Technique - Not as good as Revolutionary
J.Period & K'NAAN - The Messengers 1-3 - Nice!
Phil Ochs - Farewells and Fantasies - Wonderful, of course
Bad Lieutenant - Never Cray Another Tear - Getting pretty into this, even though its weak in places
Joan Baez - Complete A&M Recordings - Wonderful, of course
Mojo Nixon (basically everything since it was free on AmazonMP3) - Did you know he did a cover of Phil Ochs' "Love Me, I'm a Liberal" with Jello Biafra? That's pretty mind blowing.

While driving around today I listened to the latest Megadeth just because it was what was in the CD player. It's acceptable, but nothing like "real" Megadeth. This morning I listened to some Gaiares.

No, I don't have that EP. In fact, I didn't even know it existed.

The funny thing is that I got the album when it was released, enjoyed it, but then totally forgot about it until late-August. For the past few months, it has been on heavy rotation.

Phil Ochs & Joan Baez are great, by the way.

As far as Jello is concerned, I think I prefer the Dead Kennedys to his solo stuff (although I have kinda liked some LARD songs).

dor-x ... Congo Bongo (Twin Bong Mix) (http://remix.kwed.org/?search_id=1351) -- I had gotten sick of this a long time ago. But, happily, I have fallen in love with it again. It's still friggin' great.

I've also been listening to the Red Book for Todd's Adventures in Slime World -- The screenshot thread on this game got me listening to this. Suffice it to say, I think it is decent.

Lard is awesome. My introduction to Jello was actually through the Ministry/Pigface scene. I loved his stage speech during Ministry's "In Case You Didn't Feel Like Showing Up" tour.

Listening to whatever's on the radio at work and Blue October's Approaching Normal (meh) in the car.

Nice.  Note to self: purchase United Abominations and Endgame soon.

You should really pick up the Cardigan's first album, "Carnival". It's really good, and they do a great version of Sabbath Bloody Sabbath.

I've been chiptunin' lately, learning to rip sample data from SNES games.

Strider 2 (the REAL strider 2) stg 1 with SNES Capcom samples

Covered PCE City Hunter first stage in MIDI

My number 1 favorite Megaman/Rockman BGM covered with MM7 instruments (and it's not the super hyped up Megaman 2 Wily Castle theme either...)

Override (stage 2) in 8-bit

And some non VG stuff
My condensed cover of Mylo's "Drop the Pressure" with SuperNES instruments

Agreed. I love their first two albums (aka "Life" + debut). First Band on the Moon is not nearly as bubblegum yummy as the others, though.

I just checked and discovered that they released two albums after Gran Turismo. I am kinda worried that they won't be good.

Hmmmmm....

Yup :). When I was at university, all of this stuff was big. I should pull out some Front 242 and Revolting Cocks albums now. ;)

I'm digging some of the music people are posting.  I have recently been listening to some Jimmy Agren Band stuff.  He's a crazy amazing slide guitarist that plays a really fresh style of Blues.   His brother Morgan Agren is on the drums and is definitly my idol, being a drummer.  Not sure if this is anyone's style but figured someone might like it.

- Iron Curtain (I really love it. I love 80's synth. Probably not surprising, then.)

Lullaby - Dave McComb (still a gorgeous song, yes, I must be in a certain mood, because this song is a spiritual predecessor to Slim Cessna.)
- Slim Cessna's Auto Club (you know you're getting old when you start digging this stuff, but this is the best "springtime" music, IMO.)

Digi.k, for Animotion, look no further than "I Engineer". Great, great song.

For Heaven 17, look no further than: The Height of the Fighting. Friggin' fantastic. Of course, Geisha Boys and Temple Girls ... and Let's All Make A Bomb are superb as well (from the same album).

I wish Heaven 17 did more "experimental pop" stuff in this vein... another fabulous band, OMD, actually did a lot of eccentric stuff on their earlier albums as well (i.e. The New Stone Age, great song).

I don't need to say anything about Kraftwerk or New Order... except perhaps that Kraftwerk used this (http://www.handheldmuseum.com/Mattel/BeeGees.htm)!

Yeah I'm a metal head at heart, but I love so many different kinds of music.  I'm a huge Mats/Morgan fan.    Mats Oberg is the keyboardist and is blind.  He was playing Stevie Wonder stuff at the age of 7 and started at age 2.  Morgan Agren is my favorite drummer.

This is a great thread started and I'm surprised this hasn't stayed active as long as other threads?  I'd like to revamp it with some game music.
