Title: R-Type music
Post by: vestcoat on July 04, 2005, 01:36:14 PM
Is the music on the pce R-Type Complete cd different than the music on the R-Type 1 and 2 hucards or the US version turbochip?  a while back I picked up the Complete cd expecting the music to be something along the lines of r-type for the SMS or Super R-type for the SNES (the other versions i've played) and was disgusted when i heard it.  It sounds like some pimply-faced raver moron got stoned in his mom's basement and remixed the formerly boss R-type soundtrack into some watered down techno-house mockery.
Does the turbochip still have the original music intact?  does anyone else feel my pain??

I haven't played it myself (want to though) but I've read on numerous occasions that the soundtrack is different and is dredfull.

The Turbochip music is original arcade style.

Yeah I feel ya, when it comes to Fighting Street/SF1, I kinda liked the original arcade version music better than the CD remixes.

ahhh, the R-Type Complete CD isn't quite techno... it's sounds more like an old 80's style dance / club remix...

Regardless, I'm sure that 99% of folks will agree with you (that it sucks)... but I like the soundtrack because:

1. I've heard the R-type soundtrack so many times, it's nice to hear something different.... if only because it's a novelty
2. I like cheeze, so the novelty doesn't always wear off!
3. I can't get enough of late 80's club remixes in video games (didn't NARC have a song with a similar feel?)

That said, I'm sure you're still disappointed. My apologies....

R... R... R... R.... R.... Type

Oh man, no one told me it had 80's style dance music! I love everything about the 80's and it's music, so I should get a kick out of the soundtrack for R-Type Complete.

To be logical about it, R-Type Complete came out eons before Rave techno music was invented.

No way, the music is great.  Well, a few songs anyway.  Well, mainly this one:

I love it.  I almost always prefer the CD-ROM music to it's original Hu version, except in the case of Air Zonk.

Yes, I took some liberties to get my point across (and get a jab at ravers).

The link you posted didn't work, Odonadon. I think someone else posted all the tracks anyways, I'll find tracks to download though.

Yay, I'm glad I'm not the only one who digs the soundtrack :D. We're gonna convert vestcoat to the darkside! j/k :)

well, as vestcoat said, this ain't no synth-pop supergroup... but it's the type of music you'd here in an episode of MIAMI VICE as the background music in a club!  You know, a hint of muzak.

Yeah, you'll have to copy and paste the URL.  Bloody phpBB doesn't like spaces I guess.  Try this:

I didn't know the soundtracks varied between the HuCards and CD version of R-type on the Turbo.  I'm glad I have the PC Engine HuCard versions.  That's just the best version I've played.  All this R-Type talk...time to break it out and play  :D

You obviously never had a mod/s3m player.  :)

Yeah.  In the late '80s, people were listening to really bad electronica on Amigas.

The melodies are the same, but they've been "sylized" for CD, thankfully.  I much prefer it to the HuCard version - adds more excitement to an already awesome game.

Indeed...I have a collection of around 2000 pieces of said music. :)

Ok.  I have to admit it.  A lot of it was really good.   8)
