Oh my god. I am absolutely loving this game, epic is not a big enough word to describe it. There's something about it which just harkens back to the no-nonsense pure gameplay days of the arcades. And what makes it better are the sneaky references to other games. Riding a mototcycle at incredible speed to the music of Afterburner was just awesome, and when I got to the Space Harrier clone level with Space Harrier music and even some of the original sound effects (topped off with the boss music from Fantasy Zone) I nearly wet myself with joy. The game just gives you such a rush, it's been a long time since I finished a level in a game with my heart actually pounding hard (while not being frustrated by dying a few times). This is the best thing Sega have released in years, and a damn good reason to get a 360 if you're still on the fence.

She looks cute in a kimono ;)

Well shit. Now I guess I need to get this game. Though I will probably get the PS3 version unless the Xbox 360 is superior in some fashion.
The one thing about this game that really bothers me is how tiny her head is, but then again maybe that is a throwback to Altered Beast!

Hey Joe the ps3 version is inferior according to many game reviews i have read i dont know why but supposedly the 360 ver. is smoother visually and playing
-
Yeah I looked it up and saw that same thing. Guess I'll be looking for the 360 version. Man, I haven't bought a 360 game in over 2 years!
-
I've ordered the 5 CD soundtrack now. Ah, there's nothing like beating up a load of angels to an J-poppy rendition of 'Fly me to the Moon'.

yay finally Sega was kind enough to send out my pre-order gift!!

Damn! I didn't go for that one as I thought it would be really small, so I went for the art book (quite nice) and music CD (only about 20mins).

I've started playing Darksiders, and that makes me appreciate Bayonetta even more (although I already thought it was awesome). I would actually say Bayonetta is the OPPOSITE of "epic", "legendary", et cetera. It's just a game, and a damn good game at that. It's totally the essence of pure gaming in a new-gen shell. I actually wrote up a full review a few days back, which you can read right here (http://www.honestgamers.com/reviews/8652/Bayonetta.html).
My favorite part is how they blend all the references in without feeling like they're ripping anything else off. Even if someone doesn't "get" a single reference, the game would still make sense. Well, as much sense as it's possible for Bayonetta to make.....
-
Apparently the PS3 version is getting a patch that fixes whatever problems that version has for those that don't care to dust off their 360.
-
It only fixes the loading times. I doubt the graphic issues are being touched.

Nice review. I've never noticed the music to Zillion..? I'll have to go and listen more closely.
-
It's very brief, but Pure Stone is one of the alternate Angel Attack intro tunes. I was sad to discover that it was not part of the in-game music test, and sad to see that it was not on the 5-disc track listing that you posted either.
I don't know if it matters, but I first noticed it after I had acquired the Bazillion guns.
-
Which one of the Zillion tracks is it? You only get a few seconds to hear it so I want to be prepared.
-
Title screen song. If I remember right (haven't played in a week) it's the refrain from the middle.

I got this game and it started out great. But now it is CRAZY HARD! I haven't really done any shopping. My life bar is still exceedingly short. I'm not sure how many Sonic Rings I have (I think the game calls them Halos). What should I buy? I assume that is where I went wrong, by avoiding the store. Also, the Joe Pesci character was there in the beginning, but I haven't heard hide nor hair from him in a long time.

If I can complete it, it's definately not hard! Unless you are playing in hard mode, which I find impossible.
The first things you should buy are the Air Dodge and Breakdance moves - all the others are not that important. Spamming breakdance is very useful for certain enemies.
Make sure you go into the shop after collecting records as you get new weapons - equip guns in your first set and the sword in the second set. You won't get to buy much of the expensive stuff until your second playthrough, so concentrate on buying green lollies to help you out.
Oh, and make sure you destroy all the witch coffins as they give you bits to increase your magic and health bar.
