Raiden or dead moon? I've played them both in the past and I enjoy them both but I can only afford one at the moment(i'm also buying a turbo booster and pc engine duo) so some opinions would be nice.
-
I'd definately go for Raiden since it's better as a shooter overall.
-
Unless you have a Jaguar, I'd go with Raiden yeah.
-
hmmmm....I guess it would depend. I mean if I liked vert. or horizontal shooters. I mean sometimes you feel like Dead Moon other times you feel like Raiden. I like them both so much, But I personally would go with Dead Moon.....maybe I am just in a Vert. shooter mood.
-
I recommend Raiden as well. Though the Turbo version isn't the best conversion of the game, it's still quite good.

Raiden is a classic vertical shooter. It's tough as balls, so unless you really want to dedicate some time to it, you might be frustrated. Also, it is available on many platforms (though the TG-16 version is friggin' awesome). Raiden is awesome. Oh, I said that already.
Dead Moon is not available on any other platform (as far as I know, anyway... it might be on some Japanese computer platform) -- so it's novelty (a relatively unknown shooter) that intrigues some folks (like me, a slut for any shooter). Dead Moon is an easier game, so it might be more fun to get in to. While it has been critisized for being a "generic" shooter, folks here have praised it recently (I think nodtveidt started it off). I think it is a average shooter, myself, but I know I had fun playing it. (Keep in mind that I am biased towards old-skool shooters).
There is nothing wrong with average shooters on the PCE / TG-16. They have stiff competition on this console. I'm going to buck the trend and say that it's a toss-up between the two. I don't know how expensive (or cheap) these games are on ebay... so go with the one that fits your budget.
NOTICE for DIE HARD SHOOTER FANS: There is a CD version of Raiden! If you are a hardcore shooter fan, you might want to hold out for the CD version, though I think it might be somewhat expensive on ebay.

I always wanted to get Raiden for my Jag but then I broke it by plugging it into an nes power supply. That's what happens when you have too many systems hooked up to one tv and one power strip.
Since I won't be playing that Jaguar version anytime soon i'll probably go with Raiden and get Dead Moon in a couple weeks when I have more spare cash.
-
I blew up my Jaguar too. I don't exactly remember how. I just remember smoke coming out of the bottom of it. I still have the games (I miss Flip Out!) and the controllers. One day I'll get another...
-
Dead Moon is awesome, but Raiden is an aquired taste.
If you get a thrill out of having more Megs in a cart, then feel free to get that rush which was hyped for Raiden back in the day.
Dead Moon is fun and a good tech demo for the Turbo/PCE.
Raiden is a great port of what I find to be a mediocre arcade shooter. Of course, I love mediocre arcade games.
But Raiden is more Tiger Heli and Dead Moon is more like modern shooters like the Strikers series(but horizontal).
-
I always liked the TG16 version of Raiden best because it seemed to have more of the cool little animations from the arcade version (like the farm animals on level one) that were lacking in the decent Genesis and horrible SNES version. The game is too damn long for it's own good though, 9 (or was it 10?) levels in a vertical shooter is ridiculous and you get bored by about level 7.
-
I always thought the TG16 version was better than the Genesis and SNES versions as well. Closer to the arcade.
-
Yeah as much as I like Raiden now I never understood why it got as much hype as it did, and as many ports and whatnot. You'd think it was SFII or soemething.

Tiger Heli rules! One of the first HuCards I bought back in the day was Kyuukyoku Tiger, of course.
And I still haven't 1CC'd Raiden on TG-16 after all these years...

Interesting to get a card and CD release. I wonder if thats the only one to get such treatment, besides Bonk 3 US?
-
A few more games that do this are: Air Zonk (known as Super Airzonk on SCD), R-Type (Known as R-Type on CD), Altered Beast, and that one platform game with the cat named Doremon. There are probably some others I forgot to mention, too :D .
-
Space Invaders had both hucard and a cd release.
-
Altered beast ot Juoki as its know in Japan was realesed on Hu and cd.
-
Space Invaders had both hucard and a cd release.
Space Invaders Plus (HuCard) and Space Invaders PCE version (CD) are actually two completely different games. They are both pretty awesome actually.

As are Zonk and Zonk CD. I didn't know this about Space Invaders though. I'll have to check them out.
lord_cack: Yeah good point about horizontal vs. vertical. Forever I didn't care much for vertical, guess I was more used to scrolling horizontally before recent non-scrolling times.

You can get the Jag emulator and the Raiden rom, it works nicely...

Which emulator are you using? It won't work on mine.

I am using Project Tempest. Raiden and Zool 2 are the only 2 roms I can get to work with my emulator though.
