Title: Made me an arcade stick
Post by: BlackandBlue on February 22, 2010, 06:37:24 PM
I have been poking around the intetnets lately and decided that I was sick of the "arcade sticks" I have for a few consoles and wanted a real one.  I found that a few forums recommended to use Sanwa parts, so I picked some up and made a stick.  My brother-in-law is a carpenter, so he was able to help me out with a few things (he has the right tools and was looking forward to helping me).  So, I cut a few pieces wood and glued the frame of the box together.  The next weekend I went to his house and within 4 hours we made this beauty.  Keep in mind its my first, so the next will come out better.

I bought some 20-pin plugs (common to computer PSUs) and made a plug system so I can switch out the hardware to make the stick universal.  Right now it is compatible with PS3/XBOX360 (connects over USB port using a 360 controller and a ChImp (http://www.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=162026)), Dreamcast and Saturn.  I plan to make a TG-16 controller also.  The plexi also comes off so I can switch out the picture.  I may also stain it black.  All in all it was a fun project and will probably make another in the future.

Thanks.  So far, so good.  I didn't have a chance to really get into playing anything with it, more so to test it out to make sure everything worked.  I love that it automatically detects which system it is plugged into.  Plus I didnt have to do anything funky to get the analog triggers working on the 360 side.  Hopefully I will have some time this week to try out BlazBlue.

I did play some Mushihimesama Futari Ver 1.5 and it was awesome.

Looks top notch BlackandBlue!  Bet it plays like a dream. I've always been a Seimitsu fan but may try a Sanwa if I make another.

Definitely make a TG-16 stick too as it makes the shooters even sweeter. I've put in many hours with mine and couldn't be more pleased with them.

Well done.  It looks pretty dang good, especially so since it's your first build.

It's anime and wholly unrelated to PCE, therefor irrelevant.  :D

P.S. - Vulture?!?

Nice :)

But please put some sort of finish on the wood before it gets soiled! Oil, wax, polyurethane, etc. etc.

You might have a preference for a particular type of finish.

Thanks guys.  I just got some ebony stain and some poly that im going to coat it with soon.  I was hoping that it would stop raining so it could dry, but I dont think that is going to happen anytime soon.  Guess I'm going to be dangerous and stain it in my non-well ventilated basement.  Damn northeast.  TG16 adapter will be made shortly too!

Pretty cool, but you could have chosen a better graphic for the pic.  Hmm, I don't want Code Geass.
