How much do you think a manual of equal condition would sell for? Is the box or manual worth more?
Title: Re: So, another Magical Chase on eBay...
Post by: mrhaboobi on February 23, 2010, 02:21:22 PM
box is worth more than manual.. i'm happy to say i now how a complete copy of the game :) took 8 years and 3 seperate purchases to do it :)

Not sure, but you'd think the manual would be worth more.
Title: Re: So, another Magical Chase on eBay...

chances of finding a box in worthwhile condition is much lower than finding the game with a good quality manual.. finding a loose hu and manaul together is more likley.. hence box worth more, but some people dont value the boxes and just want to hu. so maybe it depends on who the buyer is.

Pretty accurate. Most people could give two shits about the boxes however for the people that DO want the box, we are willing to pay for it. Personally I wouldn't want the box in that auction as its condition looks like someone slept on it. A box good condition? I personally would pay up to $450 for the box with the insert alone.

didnt have to give up a kidney.. paid what i thought was a fair price and thats significantly less that what roy above was suggestin he'd pay. $450 for a box is a bit insane :) half that is getting closer in my opinion and even then i have to question why we pay that much for some thin cardboard.. im sure i could get a run of re production boxes made for that price.. infact thats tempted to do it, make a repro which is clearly a repro and then sell them for a fair price so that collectors can at least have a nice looking collection ... kinda like sparky and his labels..

The monetary value of Magical Chase always overpowers any discussion of how well-programmed a game it is. That is to say, I think it's a pretty cool game with excellent art direction and some nice programming tricks. Also, one of the best music tracks of any PCE HuCard (last level).
There, found a YouTube link to the track I'm talking about.

well isn't that cool. Didn't know such a thing existed. Thank ya.

That's because a VAST majority (obviously not all) pop in to nab the game and that's it. When/if they claim their "prize" they drift away rarely to be seen again. When you see certain peeps going all nuts "ANY price", "renting it out" etc. you can kinda see what their plan is.

It's a nice cute-em-up, nothing particularly special like say Sapphire or Rendering Ranger, but I'm always amazed prices people pay for rarity, no game IMO is worth more than $100 unless you're talking about a PCB, of course I've bought and sold games for more, but $600+, that's just surreal to say you own a tiny piece of plastic and cardboard. Even more amazing when you consider a JP version does exist (though not for chump change either) when we're not talking about a text-driven game like Dynastic Hero. This is a case where I'm glad emulators exist so your average gamer can actually play a game such as this without being gouged in the pocketbook.

I was looking at another auction with some manuals i wanted.. :) and was being outbid by the underbidder on the magical chase.. so i just wondered if that was a forum member.

So I'm not reading that wrong. $650 for Magical Chase. Makes me wish I would have bought those three sealed copies for $25 at the Electronic Boutique in New Philly in 1995. Random stop to pee 15 years ago could have meant a new $2000 wrist watch today. Bling Bling.
I've got a box for Power Golf with wrapper and foam insert. Anyone want to pay $450 for that??? :D

Actually out of interest, ( this has most likley been discussed) Do we know roughly how many MC made it to the market? And was it distributed more in certain areas ( eg east vs west cost ).. Seems insane that we see so few copies.. surely there are hundred or thousands of them floating around?

Haha, nice. But seriously, anytime someone thinks prices of videogames are nuts, look at baseball cards. It's a piece of cardboard with a picture, that's it. And I'm not just talking '52 Topps Mantles here, I mean even the most current stuff, some of it gets hundreds and holds value. At least a game is playable and a physically relevant item needed to play. Baseball cards are paper.

Well, 5000 made, right? Then you figure 90% of them were bought, opened, and the box disposed of immediately. Of those 500 left, years later half were shit-canned by a mother clearing out the attic. Of the 250 left with box, 60% were buried with the Atari 2600 E.T.'s in the desert. Of the remaining 100, half are in Roy's basement. Of the last 50, 49 are with collector's that haven't actually played a game in 20 years.
The last one is mine.

Sounds like its time to dig up some landfills :)..
seriously though do we have any ideal of the distribution, would be interested to know where people remember seeing them for sale.. perhaps some of the US missed out.
And whats with all these new sealed games on european ebays? is that really NOS from sales of the PAL hardware that failed? any info on that gear.. did MC ever make it into the PAL market..

Well you have to figure it was the very end of the lifespan of the Turbo, so of the 5000 (maybe it was 3000?), some were likely sent back to TTI and perhaps destroyed. Bargin bin for some too. And those were likely bought by kids that were just looking for a cheap thrill and trashed it. Seriously, what do you think happens to all those Wii M&M's games you see at WalMart?

Touché. Most often it really is all about the status of owning the item, I guess I will never fully understand that myself unless my money trees actually start sprouting. Even back when I was a collector, I wanted the "rere" game to actually experience Panzer Saga and Snatcher, not just to know they are sitting on my shelf.

D-Lite is right about the 5,000 figure for the MC print run... Here's food for thought: Order of the Griffon had the same print run as Magical Chase. So like "mrhaboobi" said, why the f*ck is it worth so much? Order of the Griffon doesn't go for $650.

I'm certain that that is the copy brentsg recently sold over at neo-geo.com . If I'm correct then this sellers line of being the original owner is pure bullshit.
I could be wrong, but those flyers were being included with brentsg's game and the odds or two similarly minty games showing up back to back...... I'm sure of it.
Just sort of f*cks me off how all these ebay sellers lie.

Right there with all the basements in California.
Of course, you kids do know that basements are pretty much common everywhere in the US except for California and Vegas, yes? Where else would all those moms hide their socially inept children?

I would pay $49.99 +tax for MC. I didn't back in the day since I got 3 games for that price. I would pay that price now, but that's as far as I'd go.
Seriously though it's just sad that this game is so sought after. I like the game but there's so many more games I'd rather play. One more reason I didn't get MC back in the day. I got Lords of Thunder, Valis III, and Neutopia II instead. Also if I didn't buy Sapphire when it first came out I sure as shit wouldn't be spending the money that it goes for today. It's a great game everyone should play, but there are better games to play on the PC-Engine.

WMAC's Magical Chase SOLD !!!!! who bought it ? a member here ?? did Roy buy it for the box ?
Yeah, that was me. A few days ago I watched one with no manual go for $920 (I'd bid $910 tops and was sure I'd get it!) dammit... then I saw the other one hit $1525 with hours left to go and then I saw WMAC's up w/ BIN for $1599... seemed like a no-brainer to me... I've been trying to get that game for years now, and every time I looked at it and decided it was too expensive... only to see it climb even higher a month later. heh. So... I finally bought the bullet. Glad I did too, the other one topped $2k.
Interesting side-note... it was about 6 months ago that WMAC outbid me on CTCW for this game! heh. It was another one of those ones where I bid what I thought was an insane $800 and someone (in this case, WMAC) swooped in and outbid me. Dude knew what was up... he's made a sweet ~$600 on it now.
I still need a Dynastic Hero, Hudson Music Collection, and Sid Mead's Terraforming... willing to pay good money if anyone has 'em.

It makes sense, a lot of us in our late 20s and 30s grew up playing these games as a kid. A lot of us either lost a lot of what we grew up with, or now would like to buy the stuff our parents didn't get us. We have jobs, many of us aren't quite there with kids yet, so we have spare cash.
I often wonder what a game like Magical Chase will be worth in 20 years. Sure, the game will be much more rare, because with time it will be harder to find. However, I wonder how many of us will still be collecting when we are 50-60 years old? Will this new era of gamers raised on digital distribution want to collect old games? I think the market will likely collapse in 30 years, but it is just a guess of mine. It happened with baseball cards, comics, some cars, and the art market... so it could easily happen here.
Maybe when I am 50 I will finally scoop up a reasonably priced Magical Chase.
Title: Re: So, another Magical Chase on eBay...

Price collapse vs. collector collapse are 2 very different things. There will always be "collectors" to some degree, all depends if thew medium/systems still function.

I wouldn't be too hard on WMAC. The situation is depressing all around, but I don't blame him at all for the magical chase economic climate. For all I know he needed that $600 to feed his kids, make his mortgage payment, or keep the lights on... and I don't think he snagged it as a sweetheart deal here on the forums, so no ill will there.
I too wonder what it'll be worth in 20 years... I kind of expect a 5 year increase, then a plateau... I'm not sure it'll ever go down by the numbers, but if it stays at a certain price, then it's going down just by inflation alone anyway. Part of the reason I don't think it'll go down is because everyone is going to remember the crazy cash they paid for it (or saw it go for) and isn't going to want to accept less than that for it. If I was in a bind today and needed the cash, you can bet that I'd be starting the bidding at near what I paid for it.
for what it's worth... I'm having a blast helping out the community, if only by the fact that I enjoy repairing things. :-) Networking is fun, and being able to trade is fun, but mostly I enjoy tinkering with, fixing, and modding old broken stuff. heh. I just wish I could make enough doing it to quit my day job. (sadly, never gonna happen, not unless ppl want to start paying $150/hr for repairs...)

Not sure about all the ebay haterade with the magical chase. Not sure 'buy low, sell high' is greedy, considering no one's will was imposed upon and no one was taken advantage of. Here's a little story I've told before...
I was 14 years old and bought a pack upper deck baseball cards from the local grocery store. I opened the pack and inside was an autographed Gaylord Perry special edition baseball card. This was well before Al Gore had invented the internet so I had to go to the nerd kid's house up the streeet to look up this cards "VALUE" in a monopolistic Beckett price guide. It wasn't listed in the latest months issue. Upon the chance encounter of this autographed baseball card, my father decided it was time to take his well rounded son and introduce him to the nerdery known as a "baseball card show." It was there I learned that this card was worth $100 and was part of a set of 5 autographed legend cards. So, my father told me to wait and hold onto the card for one more week. I saw dollar signs everywhere I looked, but my dad convinced me to hold onto the card. How he did that, I'm still not sure.
So the next weekend we went to the one baseball card store in town, Gothic Coins and cards. The two chain smoking dudes who rented a small glass enclosed store in an otherwise classy office tower we're your two stereotypical card store owners. As we walked in the cramped store, I noticed the other four autographed legends cards in the glass case. They were missing the gaylord perry I held in my hand. Accompanied by my father, oddly enough he's an investment banker with a Masters in Econ, we began to ask about the cards in the glass case. I told the creepy greasy men that I had a gaylord perry was was interested in selling it for $200. At that moment, every law you ever learn about ECON was in effect. No coaching from my father on this one. I knew at 14 years old the greasy dudes needed my card to complete the set, and it at least doubled it's value instantly. The thought that they might never see this card again just added value to it. If they didn't have the other four cards, I probably would have gotten $40 bucks for it. Was I greedy, no. I knew my card was worth about as much as it was ever going to be worth So, we negotiated. I got $185 and 36 packs of upperdeck baseball cards for my gaylord perry card. The next stop after that was to Toys R Us where I bought a Turbo Grafx-16 and Blazing Lazers. The rest folks, is how you say, HISTORY.
The moral of this story is knowing the market and your buyer. Stocks, Bonds, Stadium Events, Magical Chases, or Beanie Babies. Know the market and the right time to sell. Three years ago MC was what, $200. Now it's $2000. Don't be mad some dude made $600 on a magical chase. Be mad that some lady's $6000 Nintendo has spiked a furvor for "rare" games that were produced in limited quantities. Will the price of Magical Chase come down, I don't think so, but once the market for "rare" games has died, the price won't move much.

He's posted several threads here asking for help to complete his collection. How many members here have helped him out as a 'fellow collector'?
He's selling tons of extras in his F/S thread but his apparent extra MC never showed up there. Why return the favor to the community when he can cash it out on eBay instead?
/not bitter /not looking for MC /not bashing either, just telling it like I see it.

One of the BIG points people seem to constantly ignore is that some of these people "jacking up" the market are the exact same people that will "NEVER SELL, in for the love of the game/system, posterity, blah blah blah." True times can get hard $ wise, etc. yet some of these same people were the SAME ones spending STUPID amounts & MASSIVELY overpaying just to have x game. Maybe if they had some $ sense they wouldn't be screwed into selling their "OMG I'd cut off my legs before I EVER sell" games.

so im going to ask a question.
Lets say i have an expensive game.. i want to sell it, but at the same time i also have some other expensive games to buy. Im not able to trade because there is no one to do it, so i figure i'll ebay the game i have, get the best price i can, and then buy the games i want at the best price i can ( as it turns out most likley via ebay ). Is this wrong/evil/greedy? or just whats required in an open market. Just interested to know because im in that situation.. cant find what i need locally via trades and cant afford to pay ebay prices unless i ebay the items myself.
Interested to know what people think.

I wouldn't, an most ethical people wouldn't either. Sometimes you get the bear... Now, Identifying the desire and knowingly talking someone into spending money they otherwise shouldn't be spending is greedy.

Obviously you haven't met many baseball card shop dealers. Talk about taking advantage of people. If you get the chance to stick it back to one of them you should. I've met a few decent guys in my day but they're a motley crew of pricks looking to make money on little kids.

Am chiming in to defend Wmac yes he is a good friend of mine and we have made many deals. Even though he has helped the community here several times I have seen it with my own eyes. He even helped me with alot of Turbografx games and boxes that I needed where alot fo people here in community just IGNORED my wanted list no one here has helped me with my want list at all ! except for WMAC so KUDOS to him and many thanks to him if it was not for him I would be stuck looking for boxes I needed ! So NO NEED to bash wmac at all ! if I needed any turbo stuff he would be the first place to ask before I search everywhere else ! Wmac is a great and cool person to do business with and hang out with.
to be honest with you dealt with DreamTR several times !!! 5 boxes I bought off here was from Nectarsis sp ? D-Lite helps this community alot and I have bought some games from him...
Even for those of you who thinks it is a community here I have posted some of wanted items with my bounty offers which were higher than what they usually go for and guess what I GOT ZERO REPLIES AND OFFERS not even single one seller pmed me and took my offer at all.
here are some examples I offered up to $1,500 for a complete Magical Chase even offered up to $500 for loose card.. up to $500 for the box... up to $500 for the instruction manual and I got NO REPLIES at all.
I even offered up to $60 for CIB Shockman and several other bounty prices but got NO RESPONSES at all. I am not complaining at all am just pointing out some facts thats all... long live turbo !!! :D am glad my collection is COMPLETE except for Magical Chase and 3 Girl PHOTO CDS...
so most of my boxes and games came from other sources such as E-bay and other forums...
yes this community is nice and has some cool people yeah but there are few people who has turned me off such as someone offered me $30 for my bonk 3 box i just threw that box in my VAULT !!!!
I used to have a boxed Magical Chase but sold it for between $180-200 in 1998. I regret doing that. So am on a lookout for one myself.
Also you have to remember someone named Andre Henerrita sp? has about 17 or more Magical Chase and am sure some other collectors are sitting on stashes of Magical Chase and laughing at us who are begging to buy one so that explains why there are shortages for this game and high demands !
people claim that there were
5000 Magical Chase made yet it goes for $1,500+ 5000 Order of Griffon yet it goes for $40 and up for boxed one 5000 Panzer Dragoon Saga yet it averages $150-250
so keep in mind that alot of people drove up the prices of Magical Chase SAD i know and I have not seen a single Magical Chase offered for sale here at this community...I've seen plenty of rare and hard to find games for the Neo Geo at www.neo-geo.com (http://www.neo-geo.com/) several times look at their community.

GUYS GUYS!.. First of all you guys are right. I wanted to be a caretaker for those turbos!!!. Things came up .. I just had a baby boy and economies gone wild nowaday. I needed a faster money. I prayed that I would sell to someone that are member of this site and my prayer came true. Kattare jumped in and BIN. IF IF IF IF IM THAT GREEDY.. Know what i would do..
SAVE MAGICAL CHASE for 5 years and SELL 5,000 dollars people would complain anyway right ? what s difference compared to HOUSE Market?
I complained and cried cuz everyones driving up the house price and monopolized everything. I was not able to buy a nice decent house yet just because people driving price up??? Come on.. Look at the price nowaday VS PAST and Future!..
OH NO >> I WANTED STADIUM EVENTS> GUESS WHAT ?? THIS WENT TO THIRD QUARTER MILLION DOLLARS !!!!!!
Yet I havent hear anyone saying congrats that I m willing to sacrifice my Magical Chase for to feed my newborn child along with my other 2 kids. Have some soul and think about it. (except for dalder.. he had congrated and met my son!!!!)
Dalder, thanks for standing up for me.
haboobi.. ure exactly right.. Sometime we gotta lose to gain sometime by here or somewhere else. Tough luck and no hard feeling..
jperryss... ure right i did not post magical chase here in site eventhough i posted tons games here.. It already gave me hints that nobody can afford the market price today in this site so anybody will run over ebay. had to post mid high value on ebay for 1599. I saw this other minty one goes for 1525. I told myself this will go for 1800 to 2000. I though why not give a break by listing 1599 .. someone could give a grab and grab the opportune. If it s for community. I had already posted many ebay price and offered many good deals to pcenginefx and offers way less prices and nobody cared and didnt buy... i guess everyone has what they wanted!.. so i move on to the higher roller!.
GUYS GUYS...I am posting more games (about 50 sealed games) up on ebay very soon starting tonight.... if anyone interested.. please do not hesitate to email me and make offer.
if i post 100 dollars. someone offer 60 dollars.. will i accept? no thank you!.. that s very clear. if you offered decent such as 15% off. I might consider and end auction and sell here!!!.
Kattare... Big Congratulation!.. hope u ll enjoy taking care of this Magical Chase. This is very decent condition. I will be missing em!
nat... I am still looking for a nice condition super airzonk to keep our old business!
Again, thank you for reading this and enjoy our life like always! =)

"community just IGNORED my wanted list"
Just because no one may have/be willing to sell suddenly we aren't a community?
Seems more than a few people think community= selling games. There's def a LOT more to this place than sales (at least it used to be). If someones main/only "contribution" to the community is selling games, that's more business than "helping the community".
BTW OF COURSE Wmac is going to be able to help you he has MANY multiples of games whereas most others here don't hoard ;)
Seems like certain people almost bash this place as a community because multiple people don't come running when they post a want list. I've been after certain games a LOT longer than some of these members have been on here combined. I also realize that there's a LOT more to do here than search buy/sale threads. Acting like the ONLY thing here is sales/trades is sad, and one of the reasons this forum has been dying out. There's more talk about "I HAVE TO GET THIS GAME WILLING TO PAY ANYTHING", Magical Chase, etc. than anything else.
#2 Those were fake bids, never paid for and relisted. You think anyone with that kind of $ would pay that much (much less for a resealed POS) LOL

Nec i totally agree and well said... i was just typing this regarding ebay....
Why is it when ebay comes into the picture whether you bought or have sold there is nothing but a shit load of justifying, or people like me jumping in and shaking our heads for what you paid for stuff on there? Ya know why? it is an evil place and we all know it but we use it, for the sellers for top dollar and for the buyers “we want it all now!!!” f*ck patients or waiting some time, I gots my visa I can get it now at the market price!!!
Jebus, for me the hunt is always better than the catch, I am down to 3 games for the duo/cd. I wont use ebay and ya know what I will get those freak'n games, oh yes I will!!!!!!
EDIT: some swear words

If you're like some of the clowns 'round these here parts and expect the deal to be completed in a week's time, then you'll have to go the ebay route; if you can be patient, then you can go the forum route. There are quite a few members that have purchased/traded for some of the pricier titles without resorting to ebay, so it most definitely can be done, but you must be to take the slow road.
He even helped me with alot of Turbografx games and boxes that I needed where alot fo people here in community just IGNORED my wanted list no one here has helped me with my want list at all !
I didn't ignore it; I read it but didn't have anything you were looking for. There's a difference, you ignorant tool.
Even for those of you who thinks it is a community here I have posted some of wanted items with my bounty offers which were higher than what they usually go for and guess what I GOT ZERO REPLIES AND OFFERS not even single one seller pmed me and took my offer at all.
Look at some of the stuff you were asking for: boxed PCEs, Duos, etc., a PC-FX collection, Sapphire, the triplet of booby 'game' discs, and Magical Chase. Many of us lack that stuff for our own collections and certainly don't have extra copies laying about to sell/trade, so why are you surprised that we didn't fall all over ourselves to help you out?
here are some examples I offered up to $1,500 for a complete Magical Chase even offered up to $500 for loose card.. up to $500 for the box... up to $500 for the instruction manual and I got NO REPLIES at all.
If wmac is such a good friend of the community, why didn't he at least offer his Magical Chase to you? The savings on fees would've made your offer pretty dang close.
yes this community is nice and has some cool people yeah but there are few people who has turned me off such as someone offered me $30 for my bonk 3 box i just threw that box in my VAULT !!!!
What do you think that box is worth? I bought my boxed, complete copy (with a replacement HuCard case to boot) for $100, from ebay no less.
so keep in mind that alot of people drove up the prices of Magical Chase SAD i know and I have not seen a single Magical Chase offered for sale here at this community...I've seen plenty of rare and hard to find games for the Neo Geo at www.neo-geo.com (http://www.neo-geo.com/) several times look at their community.
Look at the size of their community. Don't you think that might have something to do with it? No, you don't think period.
if i post 100 dollars. someone offer 60 dollars.. will i accept? no thank you!.. that s very clear. if you offered decent such as 15% off. I might consider and end auction and sell here!!!.
What are ebay's fees at nowadays, 15% for the first $50 and 5% for the second $50 (meaning 10% on $100)? How magnanimous of you.

Well i hope your not suggesting im a clown, because i waited 8 years for a MC box to come my way.. :) i call that patient, and i have a member on this forum to thank for it.
The reality is im not against ebay. Yes there are some stupid prices, do i buy those auctions, no.. some people might. Good for them.. but i'll wait to get a deal. Would i sell my MC for less than 1500 on this forum. No not in todays market ( truth is i wouldnt sell it to anyone anyways its all mine :) ).. why? because the likley hood is if i'm selling that game then i need the cash and as much of it as i can get. Would i sell my Spare dracula x on the forum, yes i was going to, had a buyer, $80 shipped ( international shipping aswell ), seems a fair price, less than ebay simialr to japan prices, but the seller fell through, wasted my time, so i start to think, why bother offering when i know i can get more with potentially less hassle on ebay. Still i re offered the game to another person on the forum, they ended up buying a CDR so again waste of time.
Would i trade me gear ( girl games, terraforming etc ). YES absolutely id love to, thats what my spares are for, to trade with other people who have the parts i need, help each other out, that to me is helping the community, doing a fair trade where both parties have positive outcomes. But like others have said the rare stuff doesnt pop up that much, and after 10 years or so with this system id like to complete it :).. you can only wait so long for parts.. so people say, just sell me your game for a decent price.. thats great, but if i have to buy the gear i want from ebay because its not coming up locally then unfortunately i also have to sell my gear on ebay to afford to buy from ebay.. not what i want.. but hey thats reality. Whats funny is forum run auctions still seem to go for very high prices.. generally the new members bidding items up, but as we cant control the members we have or restrict them in any way, we cant guarentee that forum run auctions will go for fair ( lower than ebay ) prices either.
What i am against is someone getting a sweet deal, on the forums, and then re selling on the same forums for alot more. That does suck.. If however you get a deal via teh forums ( eg someone comes here and says hey im new i have this game for sale and they are under pricing it, if someone manages to buy it then i have no issue with that person selling it on ebay to make a quick buck.. thats how we get the funds to buy what we need, no different to garage sale pick ups. Helping the community doesnt mean you have to sell for low ball prices.
i do have some rarer items to trade ( all the girl games, terraforming , a stack of boxes and manuals ), and happy to do fair trades, but if it comes down to me having to buy games from wmac via ebay for market prices, then unfortunately my trade gear is gonna have to be sold for market prices to cover my purchase.. im sure deep down inside you all agree with that and as im not US based, i also cant find anything locally.
Would i pay 150 for godzilla, nope.. and i sold mine for 80.. but that was 1 year ago, and i can understand wmac trying to get as much as he can for his copy, maybe he did over pay, we all do it.. and he wants as much back as he can get, pit it on ebay, set the reserve at 80 and then see what the market will pay, because if ebay people will only pay 80, then he'll never get 150 anyways, and there is nothing stopping forum members from bidding at 80... Just a thought

You're really not helping the community a great deal and that's not an insult. My point was that you're offering it on ebay for essentially the same price (to you) as what you're offering it to the community, so don't act like you're being Mr. Noble McSelfless.
Well i hope your not suggesting im a clown, because i waited 8 years for a MC box to come my way.. :) i call that patient, and i have a member on this forum to thank for it.
Not at all. With that kind of patience, you don't sound much like some of the recent goons that cry when they're not taken up on an offer within a few days of it being proffered.
The reality is im not against ebay. Yes there are some stupid prices, do i buy those auctions, no.. some people might. Good for them.. but i'll wait to get a deal.
Same here. I've bought plenty of games on ebay for what I would consider fair prices (equal to or better than many forum deals).
if i have to buy the gear i want from ebay because its not coming up locally then unfortunately i also have to sell my gear on ebay to afford to buy from ebay
Fair enough. Just don't act like you're giving us all a helping hand when the time comes.

LOL common sense VERY ironic. Even after being told many times by multiple people in chat a good range on certain game prices you have massively overpaid on a number of games. Sometimes you get lucky (I nabbed Godzilla for $40, Cotton for $25, etc.) yet you get indignant someone offers you a decent offer that doesn't match up to your ridiculous spending?
Once again you equate "helping the community"= all has to do with sales/ selling cheaper than what you overpaid. A vast majority of your posts (and a couple other peeps) only have to do with buying/selling games...and that's it. While that's fine, it does show frankly you have no clue what the "community" aspect here is, and your posts continue to prove it.

Nobody said you should. Just don't try to come off as the benevolent uncle giving the kids a sweet treat.

Nec,
ure defienly right. i know this forum is a site to do the garage sale and nice offering.. this is the reason i posted many rare and wont sell that too cheap due to wanting to get 3 girls games but never got them. Things came up and i had to sacrifice 75% of my collections and try to keep 50 different titles (loosey or JIC) just to play... i helped one guy.. i sold TurboGrafx system for $25 buckaoosss cuz this guy wanted to start collecting turbos.. i felt it s worth to give someone so cheap. as for others.. im sure they already have all games (starter kit)..
Another example.. ihave a sweet S10 truck.. it s not complete.. i wanted a magical chase RIM!. it cost 1k dollars.. holy smokes it s damn expensive.. i remember 2 years ago .. it cost 450 dollars.

A vast majority of your posts (and a couple other peeps) only have to do with buying/selling games...and that's it. While that's fine, it does show frankly you have no clue what the "community" aspect here is, and your posts continue to prove it.

"i sold TurboGrafx system for $25 buckaoosss"
While reasonable don't fool yourself into thinking that was a "OMG LOOK AT THE GREAT DEAL I GAVE SOME out of the goodness of my heart." That's not much cheaper than multiple people on here could nab a TG...with patience.
Another example.. ihave a sweet S10 truck.. it s not complete.. i wanted a magical chase RIM!. it cost 1k dollars.. holy smokes it s damn expensive.. i remember 2 years ago .. it cost 450 dollars.
what happen to the price?
WTF is a magical chase rim? I know you have problems with writing, but man PLEASE get someone to help then...this is just getting hard to decipher.
The price skyrocketing has been touched on more than a few times, with multiple reasons why. MAYBE if you left the uying/selling forums you would have seen these discussions (and many others)!!

So, if you pay fifteen hundred dollars for magical chase, do you play it?
Well, for me, that's kind of the whole point. I'm kinda f'd in the head I guess, as I'm essentially re-living a chunk of my childhood, except this time with more toys.
When I sit down and play I sit down in a closet (not much different from my bedroom circa 1989) with my Commodore monitor (mono audio, so sad) ... same monitor I grew up with, and I plug the game into the same TG-16 I grew up with (complete with "custom" composite output mod I did when I was ~14... pre "internets") and I play with the same pads I grew up with (complete with "custom" slow-mo mod I also did when I was ~14) ... I suppose I could emulate this stuff, but the experience really would not be the same, so I guess the only big difference is that this time around (~18 yrs later) I have about 200 more games to choose from. heh. Back in the day I didn't have cash for games. I fixed broken gear and then traded it for games.
Someone will undoubtedly point out that I could get one of those flash cards and just put magical chase on it. The thought had occurred to me, but that gets into the why I'm f'd in the head part... it really just wouldn't have been the same.
Still with Magical Chase... there's definitely some inner conflict. It's the first game I've bought where I had to even ask myself if I should play it. Or... the larger question really... should I leave it out where my kids can play it? Right now my kids (3, 5, and 7 yrs) have access to all my non-CD games. I even leave the cases and manuals out for free access by the family. For magical chase WMAC included a generic case w/ sparky sticker, so I think what I'll do is leave out the game and case, but put away the box and manual. Might even scan in the manual and print up a copy, dunno.
I saw some folks talking about how long they've waited for a good deal to come up, hey, I've wanted everything TG for nearly two decades, a lot of us have. It's just now (the last two years or so) that I've actually had the time to pursue the dream, so to speak. I say time because -- 99% of the cash has come from my flipping stuff on eBay. I started small, buying broken TG's, fixing them, and adding the composite mod I first did when I was a kid, then started fixing broken duo's and flipping those, then recently I was able to pick up a broken PAC, region-mod it, and flip that... it's slow going, but when I paid WMAC, it was 100% in the paypal account, funded by ebay sales. Just yesterday a broken Duo-R arrived from japan. Had it fixed in 10 mins. ;-) Now I'm hoping I can find a buyer and use that cash to fund more games. Tho I still gotta make an AC Adapter and AV cable before I can put it up on ebay... It's almost like I'm back to my childhood! Wheeling and dealing trying to trade junk I got for treasure I want.
Quote from: mrhaboobi
Would i trade me gear ( girl games, terraforming etc ). YES absolutely id love to, thats what my spares are for, to trade with other people who have the parts i need, help each other out, that to me is helping the community, doing a fair trade where both parties have positive outcomes. But like others have said the rare stuff doesnt pop up that much, and after 10 years or so with this system id like to complete it Smile..
I wish I had some of the loot you're looking for... I don't think I do, but... I'm willing to save you some ebay fees and pay you a FMV for the goodies I'm looking for.
I also maintain a listing of all my available trades, etc, on ebay. I'm not going to play it off like it's a sweetheart deal or anything, but check out my thread in the sales area for details. The stuff is priced to sell and I'm perfectly happy to pass along savings for whatever fees don't get fed to the ebay beast.
I'd like to close with a sad realization, that my enjoyment of this copy of Magical Chase comes somewhat at the expense of a father who needed the cash for his family. I really hope things turn around for you WMAC, I know the economy sucks right now... it must really suck for you locally to have to part with something like this. In any case, I'm glad it was you I got my copy from, vs. some unknown that really could have been laughing all the way to the bank.

LOL, it is pretty sad. I only have so much leeway with the wife with regard to hardware in the living room. And, to be honest... I way prefer the picture on the CRT (even a small one) over the picture on an LCD. I think my commodore monitor is on it's way out here sooner or later, I want to RGB mod my console and hook it into a nice flat trinitron crt. They're super cheap on craigslist these days.

Oh I agree a good CRT is the way to go for classic gaming like this.
And for a dude who drops that much on one hu-card, how is it you dont have a dedicated gaming room in your house?? "No wives allowed!"

Sshhhhh man... the wife has no clue what I've spent on this stuff. It's better that it all hides in the closet.
It does seem woefully unfair that the laundry room is bigger.

*RARE* Turbograpx 16 Magical Chase US version
Actually if you look closely at the title on the auction its a little different then the normal Magical Chase. It's really for the Turbograpx. Much rarer!
Honestly though it might go for less then usual with the system spelled wrong. Unless you do a search for "Magical Chase" it doesn't even come up in the Turbografx search due to the spelling.

The dirtiest shittiest version ever of this game and still $560.51... I had $536, but even had a hard time justifying that bid...
Looks like my TG collection will never be complete. Why couldn't this be common, and TV Sports Football be rare?

Tough crowd.. In case you couldn't read between the lines, I was the one that won this auction. The hu did have a few specs of dirt on it, but all I had to was wipe it off with a damp paper towel and voila, good as new. The seller could have done a better job taking a better picture because the game is in great condition. Works like a charm. Here it is:

Thanks for your insight Sparky. You are right, $560 is an awfully steep price to pay. But every year the price keeps increasing out of control. I remember thinking that $250 was a ridiculous price to pay back in '02 or '03. Now look at its FMV. I thought this was the best buy low opportunity as I could get on ebay because of all of the factors mentioned above and also because we are at the tail end of the recession. And besides, you will almost never find turbo games at thrift shops, flea markets, etc. Unless someone sells a copy of MC on this site, I don't see the game selling any lower than it did when I bought it.
BTW, are copies of Magical Chase regularly sold here?

My max bid was $581.13. I kind of digg odd numbers. Better luck next time. I would have posted earlier, but it took over two weeks for the admins to accept my registration.
It surprises me that no copies of Magical Chase have ever been sold here. I mean this site has a trades section. Moreover, ebay gets a commision on the $ amount sold.

I have mentioned this before but here is the quick brief... The trade was....This Hulk prototype box i found (just the empty box) for this minty MC for me (still gots the plastic on the box)
nope... he did not get ripped off, not my nature to do such a thing...
A complete Magical Chase back then was about $500 this Hulk box he valued just as much as this was a prototype box!!. and people love prototypes!... I actually had 4 different Atari prototype boxes and 2 had never been seen before period!!!!... i had offers for these 4 EMPTY boxes between $1000 - $2000. This guy wanted the hulk box as much a i wanted magical chase.

Lord of the Rings was never released for the 2600, but it (and The Hobbit) was released on various computers (PC, C64, Spectrum, etc.); perhaps you're thinking of one of those. As for Bond, the sole title released on the 2600 looked a bit different than either of those two boxes (clicky (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/e/e6/James_Bond_007_1983_Parker_Brothers_game.jpg)).

That "rarity factor" crap is off more times than not. It is "uncommon" as it had a smallish print run, but not OMGZ RARE. Mainly it is people seeing the f*ckin ludicrous $ this has jumped up the last 1-2 years and jumping on the bandwagon (plus all the Stadium Event's hoopla, etc....people scouring for "hidden treasures" more).

If I'm going to get MC I'm just going to buy the pc-engine version. Hell I'll even buy that loose. I've seen the game well under $100 at certain places. I also know Sinistron nabbed one for around $80 loose. That was off of ebay. So I don't even bother with the TG-16 version anymore. The sprite changes sure as shit aren't worth it to me. I'm not going for a complete TG-16 anyways, or bringing my friends over to have a circle jerk around my uber rare US MC.

My guess, and I have nothing to base this on, I think he is going to set the reserve at 2,000 which someone will bid to hit the reserve (since they were going to pay around $1800 anyway) and then $2,000 becomes the new benchmark for a complete MC in decent shape.
My final price guess is $2150.50
If it does end on that no I did not bid.

He just relisted at .99 with "No Reserve" after he discovered that people were willing to bid up to $1800 for it.
Now we get to see if someone was driving up the price just to be an ass. Maybe it'll actually sell for like $5.

Who is bidding on these things? Seriously, who? If it's no one here, then it has got to be resellers.
Damn good question. I dont know anyone with $2k laying around for a game. Thats a friggin house payment!
My barriers have been gradually broken down. I used to think $100 was crazy for any game. Nowadays there are some games you just can't get for less than $300. Honestly, if I had it, I'd probably pay $2000 for Magical Chase. Nerdy as is may be, that game is a technological marvel, and I understand it's pretty fun too!

OK, yes, there are probably more productive things to spend the money on. But seriously, if someone has the money and desire, who cares?

Or if you're really just interested in playing the game, you can pick up the PCE copy a LOT cheaper. I think I paid $70 or $80 for my PCE copy....loose huey but hey it plays the same. The level one background graphics can keep their $1730 premium! [-(

That's fair, and I'll probably pick up a PCE copy long before I get the TG16 version. Regardless, I'd like to own the TG16 version. Honestly, I haven't even found an "alternative" means to play this game.
ETA: I'd really like to not be banned.

Isn't it on VC? If I didn't already have the TG-16 version, I'd rather buy a flash catd and the PCE version for a fraction of what peoplecare considering to spend on MC. With flashcards available and the collector prices of MC, there's no way people can justify buying a Turbo MC because ofca genuine interest in the game. Thwy're

It's not on Virtual Console. The other super valued US TG16 game, Dynastic Hero is. But not Magical Chase.

Does anyone know how many copies of this game were produced? I apologize if it has been answered already. . . I'm just curious.
I seem to remember it being said to be around 5000 copies
I think 2000 seems more likely.
Either way, it doesn't factor into the selling prices. Equally rare and even rarer Turbo games go for far less.
Is it just because it's a game of (from what I hear, I haven't played it) pretty high quality and had a limited production run?
No, it's only because of a long running manipulation of the market.
Although it is a high quality game, the gouging has only turned people against it. If it usually sold for $5 or less, people would only have good things to say about it.

It didn't have a limited production run. At least, not compared to any of the other late release games. Exact production numbers are probably impossible to come by, but I do know a guy who used to work for Hudson that claims most the late release games (MC included) were produced in the same quantities. Magical Chase is no more rare than, say, Order of the Griffon.
The actual reason for the inflated price is as Black Tiger stated.

Except that OotG isn't available to buy very often, unlike the often seen Magical Chase. Going by the logic that rarity guides use, many Turbo games are rare, but Magical Chase is maybe uncommon.
It's simply a pissing contest to see who can lose the most money.

All jokes aside, I do have a spare huey with manual of it. I dont know what a true fair value on it is :P
If I had a spare copy, I would only trade it. Even if what I got in return could be worth a lot, it would at least prevent one more high profile sale and purchase. Both of which are damaging to the market.

@ Nat
I didn't write what Vescoat quoted me. It is certainly slander.
Dear Vestcoat,
Please don't misquote me in regards to the game that cannot be named. I have been overzealous about looking for a particular game but that was in the past. I have seen an analyst and I am working on things. I have been very good about it lately. I like hanging on this forum, and I do not want to get banned. I don't want people to think I am continuing on in my old fashion, and I am attending regular MCA meetings. I am way more into TG/PCE than any other system, so I enjoy reading and commenting here. Please don't screw this up for me.
Thanks,
p.s.
how am I going to get a sweetheart deal on a certain game, play it for 12 minutes, and then flip it for double on ebay, if you keep on exposing my plan?
p.p.s I would have certainly said "must haz the precious" instead of 'must has the precious", so there...
And no one was interested in a waiting list anyway...

Just some retard on here no one likes saying he won't go over $2,800 on a bid, posting a pic of his newly sealed MC that he supposedly got today for $4,900. Then pulling the pic and editing out the price he paid before he got called out on it. All while flaunting and being impossibly annoying but forgetting to realize shit is either cached or tracked in email notifications. A walking fail with too much f*cking money. Which is cool except he's an annoying a$$hole. f*ck him and his popcorn.

without judging anyone, wmac, how do you afford to pay prime price. Just 6 - 9 months ago you said you sold everything because you needed money or had some bills, and now you possibly spend up to 5k on a sealed MC ( Very nice by the way ). I don't care if you spend 10k on a game, that's your call, ( I couldn't afford to ), so im just interested to know what you do for a job.. as a solution architect I cant afford such toys.. are you rich, win lotto, or inherit it..?

If anything, I have learned that having a disability doesn't keep someone from being a complete impossibly annoying bragging a$$hole.
I for one look forward to him completing his collection so he can move on like The Nothing in Neverending Story (at least until he has impending financial ruin and comes back to try to sell his shit at a markup to us).
By then he will have gotten a hold of just about every MC in the wild just because he has nothing better to do. Very sad if you think about it.

Plus 3 bootleg hawaii Is all left for me to hunt!!!
I have all 3 waiting to trade to just the right collector ;) seeing as they appear to be harder to find than magical chase itself surely they are worth just as much as you paid for that ;) what do you think guys.. sounds like a good deal.. all 3 in one go.. saves you shipping ;)
LOL! LOL! I just cant stand that it s photo printed on the CD unlicense for too much money!.. My friend has all three.. I can just bootleg and copy and engrave the picture on CD. Make a kinko copy.. Nobody would see any difference!..
Scary right ? lol! Better sell it fast before someone does it!

Maybe that's what someone did with your magical chase ;) you'll never know I guess, but maybe it will eat at you slowly not knowing if there is actually a game inside that (re)sealed box ;)..
If you want to "pirate" the girl games then that's your call, but a real collector has the originals.. ;)... tell you what i'll list them on Half.com for you to buy ;)

A game only bought now for bragging rights and buyers remorse.
...and not playing. I'd like to know how many MCs actually get enjoyed.
I've been playing mine regularly for 18 years now. It remained sealed for the time it took to get from the till in the store until I buckled up in the vehicle I arrived in. I then ripped it open, popped it in my TurboExpress and made it to the last boss on the way home. The other game I bought at the same time is Cotton, but I didn't get to play through it until I got home to my TurboDuo.
I'd say as long as it's bringing joy through its graphics, gameplay, and sound than it counts. :)
I personally think its a sub par kiddie shooter. I was tempted to sell it but my daughter started to enjoy the cartoonyness of it so it stays and gets love.

I think this is so epic cuz 3 years ago i post that mc would sell for 5 grand in 5 years and end up i had to pay $5k for the magical chase!!
Btw. Kattare mentioned that i made $600 out of that magical chase that i first bought *false*. Because i bought $800ish for hu and manual. Then i made a trade (super airzonk, cotton, and bonk 3 cd ). Thats about $650 that i paid tor those 3 games. So it adds up to $1400-1500 gives n take. Ebay n paypal raped my money and i sold all others and i took 5-10% loss out of the expense i spend (not your problem, right eh). Anyway point is. I never came to make mone out of it!! I left and raised my kids and they re big !! I decide to go back and buy today market and everything go double/triple price compared in 2010 and im not complaining.
Seeing magical chase sold for $5733. Makes me sick in stomach but thats life!!
If someone revealed tons of magical chase in warehouse. I will not regret how much i paid for these games!
