Very cool thank you!!

I guess I'd be looking to send it to someone for assistance in early April.

I'd like to add composite outputs along with the mod for playing imports.

what kind of price range would we be in on average for a job like this?

no idea what others charge, but I'd be around $60 for the region switch and $30 to add rca composite/audio jacks to the shell.  That's assuming you really mean composite (which already comes out of the a/v cable) and not component. (YUV) I haven't done a component mod yet, as you first have to do an RGB mod, then somehow would have to fit an RGB to Component converter inside the case.  Sure would be amazing tho!

Thanks guys!  And yes I meant composite.  I'm a dumbass.

Quick Question:

IF I get the Turbo Region modded, and I pick up a TurboGrafx CD attachment somewhere down the line.  Would I then be able to pick up the Arcade card PRO, and use that to play CD, SCD, and ACD games on this TurboGrafx?

Stupid question?

:S  lol

Yeah... just gotta warn you, the TG-CD units aren't aging well.  You're way better off with a cap swapped Duo or region modded Duo-R.

I went the Duo route last time- loved it to pieces!  This time tho- I think I'll try this way first.  If it doesn't work out at least I can say I once owned a Turbografx+ CD unit.

It'd be pretty rokken to one day play some 3X3 eyes or Drac X on an old TG16 console - and make my gen and snes friends all jealous lol...

So anyway- I got the TG16 unit in the mail today- now I'm just waiting on the controllers and AC adapter to try it out.

Then I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a good deal on the CD unit at the MGC.

hey hey,

I'm looking at picking up a Turbo CD unit that is not working cheap.  Apparently it boots up, saves games, but doesn't play discs.  Like the drive doesn't start spinning or something.  Could this possibly be fixed?

I think for a good price its nice just for saving and having AV outputs.

The problem with the tg16 cds not working or reading is the little geat on the inside that moves the disc wears out and the teeth go.  Its about the size of a stomper gear.  I think sony cd players were alot like the nec from what I hear.  Man Im a old collector and I have my original tg16cd system and Im dreading the day she dies.

borked TG-CD's can be spendy.  If it's just the laser that is broken, you're only out ~$30 for a replacement.  If the brittle gear inside there is broken, you're out ~$50 for a CDR-35D unit that has swappable guts.

Hope that helps.  ;-)

Yeah she's the one.  I dunno how much higher I want to go though.  I'll go to $40 ish, but no higher, won't hurt my feelings if ya win it ;)

Nice thing is, the seller told me he'd meet me at MGC to pick up item rather than pay the shipping charges.  =)

Lemme know and I won't bid on it.  :-)

Woa! I just read this and clicked on the ebay link and there was 1 minute and 4 seconds left.

OK. So it jumped from $41 US to $67.93 US in the last couple seconds. I'm guessing you didn't go higher than the 41$ turbo?

$68 is quite a bit; past my cap but at least it came with a power supply.

yeah, its probably best I didn't win it anywhoo.  if 16-bit/madgear is selling cause he can't fix it, its probably pretty F'd.

I'll keep looking tho!!

My cap on these is about $50 shipped, much past that and by the time you repair it, add a TG-16 to it, and a 3.0 system card, you're in the $200+ range and you woulda been better off with a Duo, not even accounting for time spent on the repairs.  I frequently wonder who's spending $82 bucks on something like this thinking it's a good deal.

I'd guess it's someone gambling that it'll be an easy fix (blown fuse, cracked solder, operator error, etc.).

I may have found a quick fix to this situation... maybe...

I found a sale of a fried Power base and working CD-rom2 unit (Allegedly)  and a Working Power base unit and Non working DC-rom2 unit that doesn't spin the disc's.

Maybe I can Frankenstein these into one working system?  Anyway- the whole two sales were far less expensive than the one ebay Auction we were looking at.  =)  And I got a CD-rom2 system card (Maybe 2) in the deal!

Ok, doing a little searching around. It seems that the AC adapter for the Turbo CD power base unit is pretty pricey....

ugh...

I think I have a working power base and working CD unit, and all I hope I need is an AC adapter....

I should have just pounced on a Duo R...... *sigh*

Anyone know of a place to get less expensive AC adapters?

They're not too horribly priced at radio shack.  Can't remember the exact tip, but if you take in the unit most shacks have the test plugs where you can figure it out.  Once you have the plug figured out you just have to figure out the polarity (should be right on the unit) and the voltage/amperage.  I believe you're looking for a 12v, 1.5a adapter.  (someone please correct me if I'm wrong)

If you're not comfortable with going the radio shack route, I can probably custom make you an adapter that would work.  I'd just have to pull my TG-CD unit out of the attic to test it on.  Been a while since I played on it, the duo-r is a lot more convenient.

Thanks super much mang,  I'll take it into the Shack next week.  as long as I can get a decent AC at an ok price.  I should be ok.

This Turbo CD route is getting pretty tiring though. lol- thinking about just saving up for a good Duo-R console sometime this summer.

Maybe.. we'll see....

Quick question, I'm looking at this mod:

http://www.multimods.com/SlotMod1.html

Is it really necessary to cut the pins? Can't I just wire it up? As for an 8DPT switch, the "HuCard" pins are the short ones and the "PCB" pins are the long ones, correct?

Yup, you really have to cut the pins.  And yes, you're correct about the HuCard pins vs/ PCB pins.
