Title: Sega Channel Was Awesome
Post by: TheClash603 on April 14, 2010, 02:11:57 PM
Does anyone remember the Sega Channel?  When I was younger, I used to go to my cousin's house all the time to play that sweet ass device.  1up.com had a story on this today, instant nostalgia.

On a side note, does anyone own one of those Sega Channel adapters?  The would be a really cool thing to add to a collection.  I searched ebay and none are posted, so I assume it costs a fortune.  Boo.

Nope, Sega did not grace Denver with it's channel.  Plus, I never paid for television programming so I did not have a cable line run to my house.  I do now, but it is for internet only.  Sega Channel should start back up.  I'd plug it into my Genesis.  How awesome would that be?

I know they offered it here in Omaha, but I lacked the funds neccesary to get a sega, much less the channel.

I remember reading a bit about it but didn't know anyone that had one.  It didn't come out until '94, by which time most of my Genny owning friends weren't playing games as much, and the few that were still gaming were saving their money for a Saturn/32x (poor fools)/Playstation.

Nope, Sega did not grace Denver with it's channel.

That's funny, considering they broadcast it from there.  Silly Sega.  [-(

I remember being able to play Vectorman demo on SEGA channel long before the game was released. It was a novel idea.

It is funny that Sega had the Sega channel long before Xbox Live.  It also had a system that was online ready out of the box before anyone else...   and look what happened to the company.

They knew what was up, but people were all too stupid to catch up with them.

It would be totally awesome. Sega could even provide a newly designed Genesis + Modem combo (dirt cheap, with HDMI) and I would be very happy.

I can dream, can't I?

I had the Sega channel for several months in Anchorage, Alaska of all places.  I loved it.  A LOT.

My uncle lived in Anchorage and always wanted me to visit when I was a kid.  I thought there was nothing but polar bears, but if I knew there was the Sega Channel, I would not have turned him down.

Nope, no polar bears there.  Lots of moose though.

I pretty much thought the same thing when we moved there, but I was pleasantly surprised at all of the video game arcades.  Specifically the Space Station - wow.  Have yet to still see one as good as that place, ANYWHERE.

Almost 300,000 people live there, so they have pretty much everything everyone else has.  And when it comes to tech they are always up on it.

Anchorage was the first town of considerable size to have a fiber optic ring around it.
